Mileage on a new car?
I apologize in advance if this question is in the wrong forum but...what kind of mileage should a "brand new" car have? I bought my first '06 Z and it had only 9 miles on it. I'm going in to look at a 2010 Roadster this weekend and the dealer says it has 24 miles on it. Usually this wouldn't bother me too much but they, much too willingly and easily, offered me under invoice in less than 2 emails back and forth. It got me wondering if they're trying to pass off a tester to me...

i had like 37 miles on my car when i got it. it was trucked in but i'm sure someone drove it around a bit at the original dealer. normal really. just do a thorough inspection and you'll be fine.
look for wheel rubs, paint chips where the bumpers meet the fenders and rear quarters, scratches on the interior (especially the cup holder area) |
This has been beat to death in other threads. I've bought new cars with anywhere from 4 to 300 miles. The latter were driven in from other dealerships by old men who do this all the time. Don't sweat it..

Great, thanks for the responses. It's just that I barely had to negotiate on price, it seems they're practically throwing the car at me. Can't complain, I guess! I always do a thorough inspection and things won't be different here. Thanks again.

Ya should be ok... hey since you are local just curious what dealer you are working with if you dont mind sharing.. I had to fight to get close to invoice on my Z at Arlington Nissan.

Mine had 98 miles ... 80 and change of it coming from driving it from San Antonio to Austin for me. I don't know if it was some old man who drove it up, but the car was perfect

Mine had 62. I used that when negotiating a deal, said it was too high for me, and they whacked a little more off the top. I figure as long as somebody didn't beat the snot out of it for 40-50 miles...and after 1300 driven, all is well.

When I was there, one of the salesmen there told me they have 2 brand new 2008 (yes 2008) Nismo Z's still in stock there. Can probably get them both for the price of that roadster.. Good luck on the purchase! |

DONE! First off let me say, Eric Cotto at The Autobarn Nissan in Evanston is the best dealer I've ever worked with. He got me under invoice on the new Z (when all I asked was that he match invoice price) and got me more than I thought I would get on the trade-in by walking through all the options I had on my Lexus IS350 with the appraiser. He didn't like the value of the trade in offered by his manager so HE offered to go back and haggle FOR me. He went so far as to tell me to back up my car a few inches to hide one of my bent rims on the curb so I could get a better offer. He was very no nonsense about the whole process and I would have been in and out if it hadn't been for the slow process in the financing department. I highly recommend buying from him or at the very least giving him the opportunity.
Anyways, I can't get this smile off my face. If it wasn't completely dark out and drizzling, I'd take pictures. It's a platinum granite 2010 Roadster Touring with the Sport package, Navi, and all the available options except the splash guards. The SRM system works as advertised. The new navigation system is really sweet. The menus are fast and there's virtually no lag between typing in letters, unlike the much slower one in my old Lex. That leftmost information pod next to the speedo is a little hard to use but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I wish the 3rd pod wasn't a dedicated clock as there's a clock on the navi screen already. One thing I notice is that 3rd gear doesn't seem as notchy as the other gears and going into it feels like it's not in all the way. I felt like I kept missing the gear but nope, it was in there. Sorry for all the random thoughts! I'm just smitten by new purchase. Off to go sit in the car for a bit and figure out the navigation system. Thanks to everyone for their responses and support! |
I guarantee you'll end up driving it. :)
Congrats on the purchase! |
Just as a point of reference, my car was fresh of the truck, and it had 10 miles on it.

i did try to get the audio system to recognize my iPhone but it simply wouldn't...it started charging the phone but just couldn't get songs to stream from it...i guess i'll have to RTFM EDIT: I figured it out...i was using a 3rd party charging cable...i tried the official apple USB cable the phone came with and the system automatically recognized something was plugged into the USB jack |
9 miles off the truck
