Wish Me Luck!!

Well, made a horrible mistake today. Left for work today at 4:30am, not checking the weather reports. I work 24 hour shifts, and what do you know?? Snow and sleet tonight!! I took the Z to work over the Jeep, and now, well, wish me luck ladies and gentlemen, I am sure as hell gonna need it tommrow morning!

theDreamer 01-21-2010 07:39 PM

I would say see if you can call to have someone pick you up and leave the Z, if you are ok leaving it where it is. It would be better to ask a friend for a ride then risk you and your Z.

I wouldn't risk it if there's an inch or more of snow. If there is no traffic or big hills you may make it. I've driven in about 3 inches of snow with all season tires and without traffic, in my 350z. But I kept sliding with stop and go traffic.

I do not recommend driving the Z on snow with sports pack rims. I made similar mistake last year and I almost lost the Z (did a 180 on a busy road :()
Do you have public transportation close where you work?

StLRedrider 01-21-2010 07:54 PM

g00d luck!!!!!!!!!!don't get stuck......

djsizzy 01-21-2010 08:01 PM

Good luck...

almost any snow at all and the thing can really get loose. I was driving it a couple of weeks ago in Northern VA after a relatively small snow storm - there was still about 1/4 of snow in a cul-de-sac that i went to turn around in and kept sliding all over the place. I wasn't going faster than 5 mph, but you can imagine the trouble with driving in worse conditions.

Find an Embassy Suites. Swim a little. Have a nice breakfast and be safe.

Probably cheaper than messing the Z! ;)

Will they let you crash at the station until things clear up? It might not be alot of fun, but crashing your car is alot worse. Good luck with everything, and stay safe on your shift!

DooDooBrown 01-21-2010 09:28 PM

Thanks all.... Hopefully they are gonna be filling some overtime slots tommrow, which means I will be around the DC area (where they salt, and where it is supposed to be warmer!)

roplusbee 01-21-2010 09:39 PM

Ouch. I don't have any experience driving a 370Z in snow, but it can't be that much different from driving my 240SX in the same situation. I would just leave it and find another way home or wait it out. Both choices do not include driving your RWD baby. You may be an excellent driver, but you should be more worried about the other folks (I usually use other words to describe them) on the road. Good luck.

same AK, i have the yokohama advan sports, they do not do well at all in the snow, park the Z in a safe place, get a ride buddy

OldGuy 01-22-2010 08:05 AM

Did you get through the night safely?

j.arnaldo 01-22-2010 11:04 AM

How far do you live from work? Cab? Bus? Ride by a colleague? You can always come back & get your monZter!

ZKindaGuy 01-22-2010 11:13 AM

If you cannot afford any Blizzacks then I would buy two 60-lb sand tubes from the Home Depot and put them in the trunk This saved the 350Z I once owned. Once I purchased the 4 Blizzacks all-snow tire I didn't need the sand tubes any more.

My 370Z is a garage queen and I now drive a 1999 Grand Am beater as my 240 mile round-trip / day work commuter. Even with it I bought 4 all-snow tires so that I don't end up losing the beater and having to drive the 370Z. It never seems to end doesn't it?

Update- Worked through the nite... Woke up the next morning, and there was a little sleet on the ground, not as bad as what the weather people said it would be. Left the station about 7:00. I commute 75 miles to work, and it got progressivly worse as I got closer to home. The worse was the road right before my house, in which the *** end starting to come out from under me.... I was actually surprised, left off the gas, and the traction control worked its magic! Got in my neighborhood, and was home free! Just gave the Jeep a tune up, and now both cars are good to go!! Thanks all!

Hahahaha!!! Yep, slid on both of them!

Pharmacist 01-23-2010 11:13 AM

why dont you have winter tires on the car? summer performance tires are unsafe in winter even on dry asphalt. being a firefighter you should know better :shakes head:

DooDooBrown 01-23-2010 11:24 AM

Being a firefighter, I DO know better.... I know that this car should just be kept in the garage when it is snowing.... That is why I threw down 2200 bucks, and got a Jeep (a set of rims and winter tires would have been only a little cheaper)..... No sense in messing up the Z when there is salt and ice on the road!! Just didn't check the weather reports, thats all... I am honestly more concerned about putting some more miles on the Z, as I am currently in the process of doing a oil consumption test for Nissan, so have been trying to drive it more, even over the winter months.... Just had no idea about the snow/sleet!
