black thing on the rear bumper

So Ive had my z for almost a week now and Im in love with the car. Some of the best money Ive spent in quite sometime. So to the point, just about everyone that Ive shown my car off to always asks "Whats that black thing?". And they would be refering to the black thing on the back bumper, I have no idea what it is. Someone care to enlighten me?

It's literally the butt plug. The models outside the US have a fog light back there, but we just get a plug.

Urbanracer 01-20-2010 07:13 PM

I'm guessing your talking about the rear fog light? The US market didn't get the actual light installed like the euro and japanese markets did. The black piece is just a filler for the bumper.

pshh!!! It's for the OIL SLICK accessory duh!!!

and mystery solved. Not as fun of an answer as I was hoping. Has anyone thought about using this space for a back up camera or would that just be way too low?

A bit low, but you can buy the rear fog and get it operational if you want. Other options are to get a new rear bumper.

That would be pretty low. How about a functional rear fog light?

Kones 01-20-2010 07:49 PM

I gave my baby a battery operated butt plug . . . seems to like it

They ask me the same thing!

puckshaw 01-20-2010 09:53 PM

The salesman at my dealership told me there was a tow hitch under there :icon14:

That's the one :rofl2:

Jones Boy 01-20-2010 10:32 PM

Why don't we get the rear fog light anyways? It kind of hacks me off the more I think about it. Anyone have a logical answer?

motoextreme 01-20-2010 11:53 PM

:gtfo2: TOW HITCH....too funny! Between that comment and the endless amounts of spacers left in the Nismo's I'm losing faith in the Nissan Dealers. Makes it that much easier to mod the car and lose my warranty, not sure I want them wrenching on it anyway.:ugh2:

Well dang...I'm hookin' the Sanger up. Anyone wanna go wakeboarding???

motoextreme 01-21-2010 02:17 AM

Wakeboarding? How about snowboarding? I've had 5 days in so far, going next weekend for 3 and Tahoe a couple weeks after that.

Wakeboarding..that's fun too but try surfing behind a boat, we do it all the time in Big Bear, its a blast!

That's the bung for my bunghole.

j.arnaldo 01-21-2010 08:51 AM

Since Puerto Rico is part of the U.S., we DON'T get it either. Shucks!

I believe it has to do with certain states may not allow rear fog lights, only front. So Nissan just removed it from all US bound cars, but I am not 100% on this answer.

My husband has always wanted to try wake surfing (is that what it's called?) With the ballasts filled, our boat definitely throws a big wake...someday we'll have to try that! I have never been to Big Bear...but have always wondered if I could snowboard. I'm a decent wakeboarder when I want to be.. With all this rain, the conditions are bound to be stellar up there now!

motoextreme 01-21-2010 09:43 AM

Well... When it warms up your welcome to come up and try it, our boat stays in the water all summer. As far as BB, yes, snow is nuts right now but too darn busy to make it up there. If you guys make it up, shoot me a note and I'll make sure to show you around, its not Aspen or anything but its a nice local spot.

Sorry for the threadjack!!! :ugh2::ugh2:

VCuomo 01-21-2010 12:42 PM

Hey motoextreme - you gettin' dumped on up there in Chino Hills? I used to live up there (10+ years, live down in OC now).

motoextreme 01-21-2010 12:54 PM

I live in Carbon Canyon, I'm sure you know it well. The Golf Course has a damn river going through it, its insane! All of a sudden my home is waterfront property...makes me wonder if I can get more $ for it..HAHA. I wanted to go boarding this weekend but I just called my neighbor that lives next to my cabin and he said there's no way up there right now.

Two of my staff called in that they we're evacuated from flooding...California is sinking!!! Good thing I keep my Boat here in the parking lot if sh#$ goes real south HAHAHAHAHA:eek::eek::eek:

That fog light will add to your Z because it not only looks cool but also makes you more visible at night. This light is a little brighter than the tail lights. Click on the pic to see what I mean. This pic taken at dusk. Got mine from Z1. They are a great supplier for our Z's.

There's a small square plastic piece (not the one you're referring to, this one is body colored) in the center of the bumper...I had an installer drill a small hole in it for a backup cam, works great.

Hey Antbear, we don't have any crazy rear fog light laws in the state do we? My tint is illegal enough, and I'm sure a fog light would attract more looks then the tint would...

:tup:No rear fog light law in OK. . . . . just a radar jammer law.........I'd have one for sure if they were legal.
