Why I love the name Fairlady Z
If you ever wanted to see what Nissan had in mind with the name 'Fairlady':

The name actually came from the broadway play "My Fair Lady". |

Wow, I feel like you guys are trying to deny that this exists. Anyways, I'm well aware of the Broadway play. However, in relation to our car, the Fairlady girls actually predate the existing Fairlady Z by 5 years, as the 50th annual was in 2015, while the Z car just hit 50 years in 2020.

It's well known that Katayama-san took the name inspiration from "My Fair Lady".
So I'm not sure what you're getting at here. |

I've read, in more than one article, that the car was named after the play. First mention I've seen of the entertainers. But that's just what I've read on The Intertubes.
Can't say that I consider it to be very important, either way. Ie, minutia. YMMV if you are a Historian. :) |

You will communicate well with my 3yr old daughter. My 5 yr old boy is a little out of your range though. :rofl2: |
Cant say I'm a fan of the Fairlady name.
To me it was a whimsical way to name the vehicle and only has a very tenuous link to what was produced. I much prefer just Z, pronounced "Zee" Cheers Skiwi |
I am one of the few who swapped the badge out. I'm fine with it even if the untrained eye still mistakes the car for a 350Z.

What are you aware of about the Broadway play? That it exists? Or that it was a big hit and 3 years running when Mr. K saw it and was inspired by it and thought that the popularity could be marketed? (I very much agree with Swiki on the tenuous connection comment!) You say that the Fairlady girls predate the Fairlady Z. Well that's obviously true. But you know the Fairlady Z was not the first Fairlady, right? Those Fairlady girls are predated by the inspiration by 6 years and by the first vehicle by 4 years. So are you trying to say they were the original inspiration? Because if you are, that's either totally ignorant or coming from a very sexist perspective or both :shakes head: |

I was intrigued/surprised too and “My Fair Lady” is currently a remarkable broadway play and has a lot of history behind it that not a lot of people know about.
|
Wow, everyone here is really uptight and takes themselves too seriously. My post was tongue in cheek. I am well aware that the name originated with the Broadway play, where it was first used with the Fairlady 1500 which preceded the Fairlady Z.
I love beautiful women and I love beautiful cars. Maybe I am the only one on here that likes beautiful women? |
We like sexy guys here. ;)
But you are the one with a tongue in someones cheek, so you already know that. :yum: Thanks for a great goalie by the way.:tiphat: |

This is like when a comedian does a poorly conceived joke with bad delivery, gets boo'd off stage, then the comedian tells everybody "Y'all are too uptight to understand my joke!!!!"
My 5 yr old said it's not funny. :ugh2: My 3 yr old did laugh though. :rofl2: The tags are full of wins :roflpuke2: |
I thought it was common practice in Japanese culture to give esoteric names, occult or whatever you wanted to call it.
Skyline, godzilla....etc etc. Godzilla being more of a street name given formerly after racing dominance. |
We should give credit to viiv for getting MaysEffect to post!!!!!! lol
|
got my own tag and everything...
