Flat tire worries

Anyone (Everyone) Here Worried About Getting A Flat Tire While Cruising Around Without A Spare Tire?? -- :driving:

Call AAA To Get A Tow?
Do You Carry A Portable Pump??
Would You Rely On The Fix A Flat Can???
WHAT WOULD YOU DO???? ----

JARblue 05-19-2020 06:32 AM

Call a tow truck. That's what insurance is for.

The only time I've ever needed the spare tire was the very first day I got the car thanks to the idiot dealer :shakes head:

crazy4oldcars 05-19-2020 06:40 AM

Do NOT use fix-a-flat. Once the chemicals are in the tire, a patch or plug won't hold. Most places won't even try.
My NISMO has a spare. Never (knock on wood) had to use it, but I got it.
That reminds me, I need to check the pressure in my spare. 4 years, I've never checked it.

Flatbed it home or to a shop.

I would be worried, but not very worried. I've had to use mine 3 or 4 times. Most of the time I think I would have been able to manage with a portable air compressor to get me home and it would just have been annoying. But if it were worse while I was far away I would have been screwed. Pretty much no one stocks this tire size, so if I was far away with a hole in the sidewall and it wouldn't hold air, I would need to get towed a hundred miles, or by two matching tires that are the same diameter of what ever crap they have on the shelf then replace those with good tires.

While I usually carry a spare, I'm not worried about getting a flat. Tires are very rugged. Change them when they need it and your chances of getting a flat are low.

But I seldom travel to remote areas and have towing insurance, so YMMV

The cars, it's AAA. The truck. I carry a plug kit. Nothing like sticking 6 plugs in one hole while you're out in the boonies, and they hold.

I got stuck in the sticks. Hadda get towed to a podunk town to a discount tire, it was closed n have to get a hotel room for a night.

When you go out in the boonies. You always have a spare tire. That's your insurance. Once you're using that spare. Your insurance is cancelled for that trail ride. Been on one ride where we had to let the one guy use our spares. 3 of them. As he blew out 3 of his tires at one time and bent 2 rims. We was going through a rock garden with baby heads and he picked a bad line through.

After Doing Research - Just Making Sure - Spare Tire Options
18" Wheels = 17" Pressed Steel Rim Spare Tire
19" Wheels = 18" Enkei Spoke Rim Spare Tire
I Have 19" Alcoa Nissan Wheels
So I Need An 18" Spoke Rim Spare?

SouthArk370Z 05-20-2020 10:20 AM

Spare tire needs to be close to the same circumference as tires in use. The wheel makes no difference as long as it will fit.

LennyK 05-20-2020 11:11 AM

Just Asking The Question To Make Sure...:ugh2:
Base Model (18" Rims) Has 17" Pressed Steel Rim Spare
Sport Model (19" Rims) Has 18" Spoke Rim Spare

crazy4oldcars 05-20-2020 11:16 AM

The spoke-rim spares are so the wheel clears the brakes on the Sport and NISMO models.

AND - I Found They Are 18" Rims T145/70R18 For 19" Sport Wheels
Nissan Offered Both Sizes - With RAYS Wheels You Got Enkei Spoke Spare
Just Trying To CONFIRM Before I Pull The Trigger ;)

JARblue 05-20-2020 12:36 PM

What are you trying to ask? The only thing that matters is matching the tire diameter. The little 17 inch spare doesn't clear the sport brakes, so that's why the sport pkg comes with the 18 inch Enkei spare.

You can always run different size rims as long as you make sure the spare tire has a sidewall profile to match the diameter of your normal wheels and tires. That's why you can run an 18 inch enkei spare with 19 inch wheels - the enkei spare has a very large sidewall profile (70 vs 30/35) to make up for the rim size difference. Likewise, the 17 inch spare has a larger sidewall profile so that it works with the 18 inch base wheels.

Not worried, I remove spares from some of my cars and include a can of fix-a-flat. Some of the cars come without a spare and they run on regular, non-runflat tires.

jchammond 05-21-2020 05:32 AM

I roll with a spare, tire repair kit, air compressor & electric impact gun
I even take a full size spare if going on road trip

Probably OK for a spare as long as you keep your speed down and don't do any crazy maneuvering while it is in use, but I'd go for some new rubber.

Out With The Old (Repair Kit) - In With The New (Spare) - :excited:
Any Market For this Stuff (Styro Spacer, Compressor, Repair Stuff) -

JARblue 05-28-2020 02:43 PM

If you're looking to give it away, I'm sure you can find someone that wants/needs it. How long it takes you to sell it may depend on your price and the various marketplaces you advertise it.
