Is the 2020 Nissan 370Z the last analog car?

saw this interesting article in autoweek

some nice words about the Z

Since they will keep making the 370z until the year 3000, it seems we are safe.

CRiZO 07-10-2019 12:55 PM

I like the orange LCD interior lol. I even set my aftermarket stereo to have a background that matches.

Then again, I also love 90s JDM styling.

Ugh... I’d give my left nut for cheap way to lose that hideous led clock and that worthless “info cluster on the left” if it has to be a clock so be it. At least make it analog to match the oil and volt gauges. Does anyone really need 4 clocks in a car counting your cell phone? Especially when 2 of them aren’t accurate?

Sigh... 3 clocks and not one compass...

CRiZO 07-10-2019 02:13 PM

My mirror has a compass in it. In orange led.

I also set my Escort 360 to be orange haha

I do the same (Uniden R1). Orange blends in with the rest of the interior displays better at night.

Word, with the mirror mount it looks near factory. I wanted the R1 but they were sold out at the time and I need my instant gratification, you like? The Max 360 has been great where its of use, though kinda useless in Dallas since we don't have cops anymore it seems lol. I also don't see highway patrol anymore now that I think about it... :driving:

The Z Philes 07-11-2019 12:31 AM

That was a fair article. As I have said before on this forum, I quite like the simplicity of the 370. And like the author, I feel the base model is a steal at its price considering the performance you get.

Liking it so far. Z is purely weekend early morning car now, so I don’t care for GPS lockout. I got the R1 during the Best Buy Black Friday sale for $190.

I mounted an 8500 x50 and the R1 side by side on a Houston-Dallas round trip, the R1 did detect a sneaky instant-on KA much faster. I know, not really a comparison, but it was nice to know.

If I recall, the amount of work is somewhat equivalent to a left nut.

Yea, that’s what I thought.

 Hate to break it to you, but the 370z is anything but analog with wheel sensors at every corner to predict corner entry & limit wheel spin, yaw sensors, active VDC whether you select if off or not, synchro rev match, limp mode, ice mode more electronics than what they put men on the moon with. Analog cars pretty much died after the 70's

:iagree:OP must be talking about feel... ?

The 86 is equally analog as the Z as is the M2 if you're talking about feel? In a Z M2 and 86 you get handbrakes. You get a handbrake so you can old school drift.
Corvette and Camaro feel analog when you are in sport, track or competitive mode. You can actually shut the traction control all the way off as well making the whole drive super analog.
The Mercedes amg gts has hydraulic steering which gives it an analog feel and is on the top list of drivers cars as does the lotus evora which is another car you can shut traction control all the way off and has hydraulic steering.
Subaru wrx sti still is a very visceral and analog car. Probably moreso than the Z in certain aspects.

I've been looking at these lately. The boost is $294 for the 52mm gauge from https://www.z1motorsports.com/defi-a...ge-p-5845.html

You can browse the other ones available & I think they're slightly cheaper. A lot of mixed information on here about the 3 gauges however. Some say you NEED them for Ecutek & others say you don't. Apparently they are all connected to a PCB under the dash & the only way to remove it without breaking it is to pull the dash. There's a good write-up on destroying them and making individual mounts. Found this video where the guy doesn't pull the dash and it seems okay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d3o...ature=youtu.be

When I do the Brainiac plastics for the tablet mount I'll be throwing three of the gauges in.

EDIT: Here's the other thread mentioned

About $750 for all three gauges + control unit. Install was a pain...

Your cell phone from 15 years ago had more computing power than we used in the Apollo 11 program.

I don't miss my wrx, but it just had a tin can on wheels feel, but you are right, going 80mph in the wrx vs. the Z is a completely different experience.

I get what OP is trying to say. Here's my take on why I went with the Z. Its one of the last:

-Japanese made (like actually assemble in Japan with Japanese parts)
-RWD
-Manual Transmission
-Hardtop Coupe

The only other car competing with this being the BRZ/86 (which I also considered a little).

Completely agree with you. Tonight I was perusing reviews and stories about the 370Z on line, that have been posted within the past couple of years. Almost all of them gripe about how the car is 'outdated', and desperately needs 'updating'.

I would bet most of the people making those comments have never actually driven a 370Z. So many armchair experts on the internet.

What's 'outdated' about the car?

Styling: to my (admittedly old school) eyes, it's drop-dead gorgeous. Looks like a show car. Doesn't matter that it's 10 years old. It's still beautiful, and it just shows how well the design has aged.

Layout: torquey, naturally aspirated V6, RWD, manual transmission. How many of those are left on the market? So many people (myself included) carp about how everything is going to 'turbo 4' engines and silly GameBoy 'paddle shifter' automatics. Hell, even the C8 Corvette and the new Supra are automatic only. Enthusiasts lament that there aren't any 'old school' sports cars left. Well, here it is, the 370Z.

Performance: 0-60 in 5 sec for a car you can buy new for low $30's looks pretty good to me. What else can do that? A Miata or BRZ/86 are comparably priced and a hell of a lot slower.

So many people on line have griped about the BRZ/86, how it's almost great, it's a small, RWD, manual transmission car - if only it had another 50 or 100 hp. Isn't that the 370Z? Similarly sized (if heaver), similar layout, but a lot more power?

I don't car one bit that a DCT or some other soulless electronically-controlled automatic transmission can shift gears a few hundredths or tenths of a second faster than I can. I car about how a car feels to drive, how much fun it is. To me, there's nothing that can match the sheer fun of rowing your own gears with the instantaneous response of a sweet naturally aspirated engine. I don't care that the new C8 Corvette can supposedly run 0-60 in 3 seconds. Where in this country can you do that safely and sanely? How often could you do that before either you have an unpleasant interaction with a wall or another car, or at best, lose your license? So many people seem to buy cars for bragging rights at the bar or gym. I buy them for how much fun they are for me to drive.

Yeah, the infotainment system on the 370Z is laughably old. So what? What's more important - how much fun the car is to drive, the engine, layout, and pure feel of it, or how pretty the interface is to access music from a smartphone? If you don't like the infotainment system, just buy a car without it. If you have a smartphone, you already have a better GPS than comes in almost any car.

Instead of griping about how 'old' the 370Z is, I would think true gearheads would recognize it for what it is - a gift from Nissan that they're still making it. For the few thousand a year that they sell, they can't be making any money on it. Somewhere in the messed up Nissan organization, someone realizes what the 370Z is, and quietly continues to make it as a gift to hard core car enthusiasts.

So, to all those armchair experts out there who say they want a pure, old-school, naturally aspirated, RWD, manual transmission sports car that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I suggest, go out and buy a 370Z while you can. I think it will be gone after this model year, and it's not likely to come back (except maybe as a trim variant of the Infiniti Q60, complete with turbos and a paddle-shifted automatic, and no manual transmission). It's last call. If you don't buy a 370Z now, then shut up and don't complain that there aren't any cars like it left anymore.

I've been shopping for a 370Z for close to a year now. The biggest impediment I've had (other than being very picky about color and spec) is sleazy dealers. What is it with most Nissan dealers? I've owned over 100 cars in over 45 years of driving, pretty much every make out there, and I've never encountered such pricing bait-and-switch and other games as I have with Nissan dealers. I bet they would sell a lot more cars if they would just be more honest.
