I-key thought

Just had a thought....I have a 370Z and a Murano both using separate I-keys. Would it be possible to program one key to be used on both cars? Granted, I probably would have to go to the dealer to have it programmed, but is it possible or has anyone done it?

i believe the car learns the key, not the other way around. seriously doubt this would be possible. i'd try to call a dealer, good luck getting a competent tech though :shakes head:

would be nice though, somewhat same situation for me, the gf has a G35.

Let me know if it works. I have an Altima Coupe and I often pick up the wrong key fob, as they are identical.

Naw, I would'nt do it. What if you lost the I Key? The you would not be able to operate both cars.

BTW, I lost my I Key over the weekend at the club. It cost me $260 to replace and reprogram it. DON'T LOSE YOUR I KEY!!!

Hey guys, just found this on justanswers.com relating to intelligent key setup without the dealer, check the image attached...

Here is further explanation provided by the same site:

"If a keyfob is lost, the ID code of the lost keyfob must be erased to prevent unauthorized use. A specific ID code can be erased with CONSULT-III. However, when the ID code of a lost keyfob is not known, all controller ID codes should be erased. After all ID codes are erased, the ID codes of all remaining and/or new keyfobs must be re-registered. To erase all ID codes in memory, register one ID code (keyfob) five times. After all ID codes are erased, the ID codes of all remaining and/or new keyfobs must be re-registered.
When registering an additional keyfob, the existing ID codes in memory may or may not be erased. If five ID codes are stored in memory, when an additional code is registered, only the oldest code is erased. If less than five ID codes are stored in memory, when an additional ID code is registered, the new ID code is added and no ID codes are erased.
If you need to activate more than two additional new keyfobs, repeat the procedure "Additional ID code entry" for each new keyfob.
Entry of maximum five ID codes is allowed. When more than five ID codes are entered, the oldest ID code will be erased.
Even if same ID code that is already in the memory is input, the same ID code can be entered. The code is counted as an additional code."

Hope this helps, let me know if it works! If it does, +rep please!

Thanks

Disregard the above...just found out that the 370Z key is different from the Nissan intelligent key used in other cars like the Sentra...you must go to the dealer...

Sorry...

Doesn't seem like a good idea, because if you ever use the actual buttons on the keyfob, it will operate on both cars. So unlocking one will unlock them both if they are near each other.

Talked to the dealer over the weekend and they said the I-key can only be for one car.

As Marcussoori mentioned, the car can have up to five I keys, but the I-key can only be matched to one car.
