remote start ?

I'm new to nissan,
so please pardon my ignorance.

I Know The Z Dosn't come With remote Start { No Nissan has It }

But My Question Is,

Is This Something The Dealer Would Install before I Take delivery ?

Or Would it Be 100% Aftermarket ?

Thanks

Dan

not sure about autos but no dealership will install a remote start on a M/T to much risk if u leave it in gear and start it just my 2c

example

guy "hey dude check ouit my new 370 sitting across the street"
dude " what one is it?"
guy "the black one facing us"
dude "man that thing looks awesome what options does it have"
guy "sport package 6 speed with nav"
dude "thats awesome ho much did it run"
guy " it was about 36grand giver take"
dude "damn thats not to bad it looks like a freeking porsche"
guy "i know! thats not the best part check out this ,clicks button,"
dude "what did that do?"
HUGE CRASHING SOUND screeching tires crunching osund
guy "that was my remote start"
dude "o @#@#% i think your car jsut got hit"
guy "haha dude its parked over there like i said before "turns tward street" OH @$^^
dude "soo it is your car what happend?"
guy "@%@^@#&@%& i left it in gear."

^ really? You dont think they may have thought about this when they made remote start systems?

A lot of my buddies had remote start on their STI's.. it just didnt turn on when it was in gear...

TWatson 01-12-2009 12:05 PM

im sorry my mistake i wasnt aware sti's could start without pushing the clutch in... to get around this my evo has to have that portion bypased when using remote start so it will start in gear "because of the bypass"

This problem was solved about a decade ago. DEI almost went out of business because of it. The gear does not engage, but the engine will start. The engine will die if the key is not placed in the ignition in most cases when you try to drive the car. I imagine this would work with the proximity key with the 370Z.

On my xB, if I hit the brake on accident before putting the key in, the engine kills on me. Gets annoying if you're absent minded.

Crash 01-12-2009 04:25 PM

I don't see this happening until someone figures out how to tap the RFID system.

Why not? Its just the ignition that needs to be engaged. The key in the 370Z still works.

Crash 01-12-2009 04:32 PM

Right, but A) you need to bypass the kill on the system that is triggered by the absence of the RFID key, and B) You need to tell that system that the car is ON! LOL. With a standard key, it's just a matter of manually turning the key in the ignition to the ON position. Whereas with the RFID system and Push start system, you'll need to NOT push the button with the break/clutch down (or else you'll get the fantastic grinding)

So the system would need to tell the RFID to turn the car to the ON position. It's not just telling the ignition to work when the security system is that integrated.

Hmm interesting point. I will certainly not be a guinea pig to find out if that will be as problem, and if it is I am definitely not going to be the first to try out a new remote system that has tapped into the RFID.

First wave Early adoption of technology, is not my bag. :D

^^ Ditto!

I don't care about remote start in the slightest. One of the fun parts of driving a push button start car is the push button!

Supergoji 01-13-2009 07:54 AM

but what about those brick cold days when your chillin with a really hot girl and you want to warm the car up for her and your self without freezing your *** off for like 5 minutes.

CrownR426 01-13-2009 08:04 AM

Hmmm?
My G35 has it, I don't know why we can't get it on the Z?
I'm definetly gonna try to get an aftermarket remote starter tho!

Wow, really ?

Thanks , VERY Helpful. I Mean That, REALLY Helpful

hopefully that is a joke....lol

It can be installed on the AT with the viper system.... I went to futureshop with my G and they did the viper install...took 8 hrs....lol....had to do a mod for it to be installed.... I could have gotten the remote start, but i decided to just upgrade it later...... Futureshop is Best-Buy in the States

People who say that Best-Buy does not know how to install stuff right is clearly going to the wrong ones.....go to another best-buy and just pop in the Garage and talk to the installers and see if they are experienced.....the one I go to install stuff on audi's, infiniti's, bmw's.....etc......so some shops know what they are doing and if Best-Buy says they cannot install a viper system on a Nissan/Infiniti AT, they are lying or just plain olde ignorant !!!!

If she doesn't like the seat warmers or they're too slow, she can sit on my lap or my face. :D (Benefits of a cold day!)

LOL!
Getting remote starters isn't good for the cars in the long run though!
I'm sure yall know already :ugh2:

Crash 01-14-2009 02:00 PM

^^^ Never thought about that. Why isn't good for the car? (Not that I'd ever want one. :D)

Electronical problems ftl...
Alternator, wire shorts(burns) and the engine will have problems starting.
Just a big ol mess and a bad investment in the long run imo... :ugh2:
I took mine out. lol...
I mean if your going to sell your car within couple years do it but just know you have been warned! ;)

not talking about AT im talking about 6 speed, i dont know how the computer can tell if the car is in gear when it tries to turn over or not because as u know you have to depress the clutch to turn a 5/6speed on soo you have to bypass this to start the car how is it going to know if its in gear or not? i have started mine one time and car was in gear.. it keep trying to start but was in gear with ebrake on so it wouldnt turn over it just keepd lurching forward wait a bit lurch forward as it keept trying to start

FTW? does that stand for **** the world???

I prefer the push button start. When I first sat in one and I got to started it by pushing the button, man that was hella cool.

No problem here with a remote start system on my 6MT 350Z for 3-1/2 years now and I love it during the winter months... I'm guessing the original installer is most likely the source of the problems when issues like this come up... And then again not all remote start systems have the same level of quality.

Crash 01-20-2009 02:09 AM

Is your 350z push button start?

2010 370Z 6spd

I have a shop who is putting my viper remote start in and they know how to bypass and all that stuff. They are having trouble locating the neutral safety relay wire. There are no tech sheets showing where this is located. If anyone knows where this could be located that would be great! A diagram showing it would be even better!
