Just got a 370z I have a sport brake ????

Just got the car tonight with 12 miles on it. I noticed the sport brakes were not as good as my base 350z brakes. When I barely apply brake pressure in my 350z the car stops. I felt the 370z required more pressure to stop the car. I don't remember if my 350z brakes were weak when the car was brand new.

I know brakes need to be broken in but are my brakes going to improve after it has been broken in?

Thanks

My 350 doesn't brake nearly as well as my 370 fwiw.

350z base brakes are 2 Piston and the 370z sport has a 4P/2P setup.... something is off, probably the break in...

RCZ 12-31-2009 12:24 AM

something is definitely off. Did you have pads on the 350z?

Big congrats AZN. I know you have been waiting for a long time.

The brakes are phenomenon compare to 350Z brakes. I came from 03 Z. I def think that it'll get better over time. Your car is too new. Put few thousand miles on it and then report back. Two days ago, I did a quick brake check 80-0 MPH. Lets just say I was VERY impressed

Yep yep took a year to save up. Got penfed financing thanks to you. I don't think anyone is as obsessed with the z as I am. Ironically today was the first time I ever drove a 370z. I almost chuckled when I saw how big the side view mirrors look from the inside.

Sounds to me like you need to bed the pads in.

HKYStormFront 12-31-2009 07:39 AM

^^ that's what i was thinking

I know exactly what you mean, I noticed this too coming from an 05 Base 350Z. The 370z brakes are not modulated the same way, they require more pressure to apply. Even when I drive my brothers IS250, his feels so much better, because they bite down without very much pressure. But trust me, 370Z brakes are WAY better, try doing some hard braking and you'll see. More pistons and a larger surface area means better stopping power.

my GFs G35 brakes seem very harsh and abrupt when braking, while my Z has a little play so you're not jerking forward every time you try to slow down a little. In a hard stop the Z is definitely better by far, and less touchy for every day braking.

An update after about 50 miles, the brakes work better now. The car doesn't keep rolling when I apply the brakes. The brakes feel as touchy as my 350z. I really like this car a lot.

vipor 01-01-2010 01:24 PM

what's "k23" mean? never seen it before...

color code?

azn370z 01-01-2010 01:26 PM

Yep color code, my 370z is the same color as my 350z, really like light color silver.

vipor 01-01-2010 01:27 PM

Brilliant Silver!

i'll give it 2nd place behind Pearl White. lol :stirthepot:

Hard to resist driving the car even in the rain.

My wife's altima seems to have a much more abrupt brake engagement than my 370Z. Where her car takes very little pedal pressure to snag you with the seatbelt, my Z takes a bit of effort and pushing in comparison. While the Z takes additional effort, a firm stomp stops the car on a dime. I think the Z gives better pedal 'feel'.

If that's the case, you need to burn off some brake pads. You could have just about anything on the pads making them feel a bit "stiff"

When I first got my 370z, the pads were clean and the rotors were too - touch the brakes and it throws you forward. At some point they got a bit less so grabby, which was a good thing. A little while longer and they were even more...less grabby.

I spent a bit one night driving my Z hard...it was around 35F out, and managed to get the oil temps up to 230F (hard to do in this weather!), and was going hard from around 70MPH to around 5MPH with hard controlled braking (just above ABS threshold) - rinse and repeat for about 10-15 minutes then drove around for another 15 minutes just letting them cool off. Turning on to my street, the brakes were grabby again but not bad!

I'm sure I didn't "bed" them like what I've read...since it was so cold out I'm sure they lost temp quickly, so I figure more or less I just cleaned the pads and rotors off with any grease and grime that may have collected.

You gonna break those pads in or just worry about their performance before you do? And break them in correctly or your post will be a self-fulfilling prophecy!
