Road Noise

Does anyone have problems with road noise. I am partially deaf and my wife says she cannot hear while on her cell phone. Anyone notice road noise.

I am looking at FatMat Sound dampener for Hood and interior.
Has anyone had this done?

I hear quite a bit road noise in my MT Touring with SP, what roads
you're on makes a big difference as well. I haven't made adjustments
and it seems less of a big deal with time

Tell her to turn her cell phone volume up, or to leave the phone off while you're in the car.

Nothing more annoying that being force-fed half a conversation within an enclosed area.

That said, if you must, rig it up to the blue tooth system if you car is equipped.

Me Too

Hi Guys, Happy New Year!
I have about 1200 miles on my new Z (base model) and love everything about it except the road noise. I drive about 45 miles to work, and if I could reduce the tire noise it would be the perfect ride for me. I have sent a message to the auto noise reduction company "second skin" to see what they recommend. People with 'vettes seem to have good luck with their products. I will report their response when I hear from them. Anybody else tried to reduce the tire and road noise?

It all depend on the road you travel...

jpit 12-29-2009 08:22 PM

I take the road less traveled by and that has made all the difference...

You are absolutely right! I am being picky, and if I can't make it any better I still am nuts about the Z. Just looking for ways to fix the one thing that would make the commute even better. I imagine Nissan went easy on the insulation to save weight, and I wouldn't mind giving up a few tenths of 0 to 60 time to subdue the road noise. I do like the exhaust and motor sounds, and if we could reduce the road noise, those sounds as well as the stock radio would be even better. Has anybody tried a different tire? Just curious. And I really do like the idea of taking the road less traveled!

There are number of threads about sound deadening on the boards - having done it personally, I can say it made my commute much better. Conversations both in cabin and with my hands free (through stereo) are much better. No more yelling. All and all, it was the best thing I did. I don't track my car- the extra weight didn't bother me at all.

Its still a sports car however, I wouldn't be expecting pin drop quiet in the car - but proper deadening (both mass dampeners and absorbing foam) does help.

Great info. What did you use? Thanks . . .

i drive an s2000 for the last 5 years and still do, so i think the noise doesnt really bother me. The Z to be in terms of sound noise is like a luxury car to be. lol
But dynamat or other stuff would help, i helped with my s2000 along with a hardtop.

I just installed 40 sqft of second skin's damplifier and 9 sqft of luxury liner (about 26 lbs total). The damplifier went in the doors, floor, and rear section and the luxury liner went in the back hatch area. The noise was significantly reduced, but not what I would call quiet. It has definitely increased my enjoyment of the car. If I had to do it again, I would have went with the damplifier pro and luxury liner pro and drop the sound a bit more. The extra 26 lbs was definitely worth it.
