Looking for Advise - Selling Car
Me and the wife have decided to sell the Z. Had it exactly 8 years and feel it's best just to sell and use the money to add to the principle on our house. Our goal in the beginning of the year was to pay off the house by the end of the year and selling the Z would make this happen sooner. Anyways, looking for advise if the offers I received today from Carmax and another online buyer are reasonable. Carmax offered $15,000 and the online buyer offered $15,500. Pretty close considering they assessed the vehicle separately.
My vehicle is a PW 2010 Auto with Sport Package with 14.690 miles. The options I added at purchase was the illuminated kick plates and rear spoiler. Always garaged, never smoked/eaten in, and no issues with the exterior or interior. Here's additional info and things I added over the years:
I don't expect to recoup the cost put into a vehicle, but it does help with the appeal when selling especially new tires and battery. What do you think of the offers? |
Not sure what to say, I almost traded my Z due to personal reasons, I have a touring/ Sports package manual with a set of snow tires and rims that I switch each Winter/ Summer now close to 40k and the dealer wanted to give me 13K, nothing wrong with the car no carfax, only mod is the CAI and the rear fog light His reasoning wsa that in the Winter nobody wants a rear wheel drive car...so at 15K for a 3 yo older car than mine, I'd say it's better but try selling it on your own, good luck :driving:

our cars sure depreciate a lot

More often than not, you should receive more selling privately than selling to a dealership, esp carmax, though selling privately may take more time selling. Keep in mind that any mods will lower the value. Regarding the options, I thought the sports package already came with the rear spoiler? |

Only if you sell it privately, take a look at what the dealers use, KBB, Edmunds etc. as trades you get raped :driving: |

I would price your car out on KBB, only because I use it for tracking the value...
If you wanted to get an idea, you could go to carmax, vs. a dealership and see what offer that they make. It will at least give you an idea.... What it comes down to, is what you are willing to accept for your Z... good luck |

Mileage is a very important thing that is looked at & yours is very low,,,look at Autotrader.com
Car max would resell & try to get high teens for it,,,the bank see’s it as 9yrs. Old,so not sure how long they would do a note on it (36-48mos.) sounds like you could get 16,900-17,500 selling outright...just depends on how quickly you wanting to sell. GLWS, as sounds like a great car to get! |

What is fast enough?

I would sit right at 17k...and if you aren't in a huge hurry to sell I would stay there until I got it. That mileage is nice and low. I wonder what is the age average on 370z owners? I've noticed some seem much older which could make a potential harder sell. Older buyers usually are more knowledgeable buyers and have more patience and resources. Main question is what are you comfortable at accepting?

I agree, 17k$ unless you need to blow it out for fast cash. |
It's the depreciation that will hurt him. The forum has recieved 20 or so new members in just the last week or so...plus old owners are rebuying newer models again. With his being a 10 someone could essentially get a newer model for 17....it just makes it a difficult gauge. Hold at 17 man and if it you get an offer of 16.7 and you're comfortable then jump on it. I think the Z is in an odd place right now. Losing some of the exclusivity and becoming reasonable in price to where almost anyone can own one. Good and bad...but either way man glwts!!!

I think this particular car will be a harder sell, esp @ $17k, simply due to it being an auto tranny.

@zingston: brah, who is that chick in your avatar?

I recently went from an auto Z to a manual Z and manuals are hard to find, esp in good shape. Quote:

And manuals are a security feature since it seems like kids (I’m a millennial) these days don’t know how to drive a manual. |

Being a recent buyer, I have a fresh perspective. (as one of the "older" purchasers, as mentioned) :)
Although I specifically wanted a convertible, the second thing I searched was mileage. The year was less critical because of the notorious long run of the 370Z. It was after I purchased that further due diligence revealed that 2012 and later had the tangible advantage of an oil cooler. However, I'd still buy a 2010 with extreme low mileage over a newer model with substantially more. Adding an oil cooler is far easier than rolling back 50 thousand miles. My motto is a car doesn't last a certain number of years. Instead, it last a certain number of miles. 17K is not a reach. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

Thanks all.....I appreciate all the advise and feedback. I settled for $15.5K for the car. The offers ranged between $14.9K to $15.5K. Pretty consistent for receiving multiple offers. It's a beautifully owned low mileage car but it's still an 8-year old car. Plus as some have mentioned, being an AT would push away certain buyers looking for a Z. With many newer models and a better selection of other brands and options I figured it's best to let go and move on.
Like I mentioned in original post, looking to pay off the house so by putting the $15.5K against my house principle saves me $600 on interest and then add on my state inspection/registration due this month plus oil change saves an additional $200. So adding those costs together I'm happy with the sale. I wish all well and thanks for a wonderful site and to those who make this site a great place. That's one sweet aZZ !! Attachment 129521 |
He's got extremely low miles. It's funny man my dad always said the same thing about mileage. They usually bought new cars but when he got an older ride he put heavy emphasis on the miles on the odometer.

Congrats on the sale man!! Someone got an awesome deal!!! Take care brother
