370Z smashed into....

2 Attachment(s)
So... I have had my 370Z for about a month now. It is not my daily driver, and my first car real sportscar. On Dec. 23rd, the roads were clear and the day was beautiful in Colorado. I was sitting at a stop light, getting ready to turn in to my subdivison after enjoying a nice afternoon cruise, and WHAM, I get hit in the rear end by some stupid redneck in a pickup.

I have not even made a payment on the car yet..... :shakes head:

This next week I have start working on getting the car in the body shop and repaired. I spoke with the dealership, and they have a body shop that is ran by the same company as the dealership and work hand in hand with body/mechanical damage. I don't believe that there is any mechanical damage, but I will make certain they check the alignment and gear toothing (I am not sure if I was in gear or not when I was hit). I was not hit really hard, but they are going to have to replace the rear and the hatch.

Is there anything else I need to have them check on the vehicle? Anything in particular I will need to make certain the body shop/mechanics look at?

I am so pissed about this whole thing that it makes me physically sick when I start thinking of it.

Sigh... thanks in advance

I would be sick, too. That would ruin my day. I'd have to take it out on the redneck's family....lol :stirthepot:

The bodyshop should check for structural damage to the hatch, suspension, frame, etc. I'm assuming they'll do all of that anyway. If they don't and you have problems down the line, I think they could be liable for that.

Make sure your insurance company realizes that this is a new car and should replace any parts with new. Also, don't sign off on repairs until you're completely happy.

hide187 12-27-2009 10:12 AM

I would probably cry...just make sure you dont take back ownership of your car til its fixed properly. I seem to remember a thread where someone got their yellow Z fixed and the paint wasnt blended very well.

juan05 12-27-2009 10:18 AM

damn man i know how you feel my Z is getting fixed too. well i think you are doing everything correctly good luck

StLRedrider 12-27-2009 10:29 AM

oh shitt, sorry to see those pics. hopefully everybodies ok? i would be pist too! goodlck with the repair!!!!!!SUCKS that it is damaged, but it looks like it could have been alot worse.

frost 12-27-2009 10:43 AM

Too bad man, damn shame. I had someone rear end me in a hatch vehicle. After it was repaired, I brought a ruler in with small measurements.
I measured all the gaps on the hatch, quarter panels, and etc. I found that my driver's side panel had much more of a gap than the passenger side. This is something I likely wouldn't have caught with my eye just circling the car. So I made them take it back and redo it.

spearfish25 12-27-2009 10:47 AM

Did you ask that dip$hit why he has bullbars on his pickup? Is he trying to run over Grizzlies?

What's that on the ground? Did he break the butthole too?

kannibul 12-27-2009 10:48 AM

Could have been worse...

Could have been a hit and run...for example.

kannibul 12-27-2009 10:49 AM

...And why is it that we're seeing so many rear-end collisions?

We are seeing a ton of collisions in total it seems. With how many of these posts we see, we can only imagine how many Zs are getting hit and the owners are not members, or don't wanna tell anyone.

all the tools out there not paying attention: talking and texting on the phone. we had a semi here awhile back texting while on a main hwy during rush hour traffic plow into the back of stopped cars killing like 9 people.

DIGItonium 12-27-2009 11:13 AM

Dad got rear-ended twice in less than 2 years! He was at the light when he heart tire screeching. The driver had a bad history and was making monthly payments with his insurance. A few months ago some lady slammed into him while he was waiting to get off at the exit ramp on the way to work.

I notice people love to tail gate even in icy conditions.

NewlyIMPORTed 12-27-2009 11:17 AM

People just don't pay any attention anymore, small cars are just looked over when you have dumb drivers in huge cars

frost 12-27-2009 11:21 AM

The amount of distractions has gone up, the number of drivers has gone up, and (putting the last 2 years aside) the size of the vehicle has gone up. It all equates to more collisions.

I've noticed on "newer" model cars(not just the Z), these new brake lights are some times hard to see in bright sun light. The third stop light (the one in the middle), shows up fine. But the left, or right brake light, is hard to see in bright sun light, depending on the angle of the sun!

Sorry to hear and see the Damage. The Body shop should take care of all the damage. Be sure to look it over good and make sure their is a warranty on the work.
good luck..

Modshack 12-27-2009 12:54 PM

Sorry to see.....I got hit at 200 miles and 5 days into my ownership. It sucks, but the car is just like new again. Better actually considering the paint quality. Do yourself a favor and inform the Insurance co. that's handling this that you intend to file a "Diminished Value" claim.. Your car now has a Carfax record that will result in it being worth less when you eventually go to sell. A diminished value claim will help make you whole on this. Allstate paid me $2200 for my diminished value, over and above a perfect repair payment ($7K).

Snakes709 12-27-2009 01:12 PM

That sucks about your car. Please say the guys insurence is paying for it.

spearfish25 12-27-2009 02:25 PM

While first reading these replies about 'so many collisions', I thought we were on track for a new 'blame nissan' thread :)

In keeping with the theme...I just witnessed a nice rear-end collision on the way back from Home Depot 15 minutes ago. Some Hyundai SUV creamed the back of a BMW X3. Massive damage to both. Just plain stupid...Hyundai driver wasn't looking as he pulled up to a traffic light.

Meridian69 12-27-2009 02:27 PM

Thanks for all the replies, friends. Yes, the insurance company is going to cover it, but it still sucks and is a pain in the ***.

Modshack: thanks for the Diminished Value claim tip. I did not know about it, but will do the research and see what I can come up with.

I agree

Zeto 12-27-2009 03:55 PM

DAMN! That looks painful just to look at!

That sucks I have the same car I would not have them put the factory spoiler back on and switch to the pre painted Nismo version makes it stand out in a crowd. I wanted to change mine to Nismo but the holes don't line up.
Thats just my opinion

Good luck with the repair

Zsteve 12-27-2009 06:30 PM

Make sure you make a claim for deminished value too. Start at 10% of the cars original value. Now that you have had an accident you will probably show up on car fax and will get less value for trade ins or resale. I did this on my Audi and got all 10% $3,700 from the military for it.

Poor Z.. Sorry to see/ hear about this. I hope it gets fixed quickly. I have a friend who lives in Aurora/Denver area. I was there this summer. Beautiful Mountains :)

370Zsteve 12-27-2009 10:00 PM

It often take a few days for injuries from this type of collision to show up. First sign of neck pain, headaches, etc get your *** to a doctor and call your insurance company. It all sucks, man, sorry for you. :shakes head:

Meridian69 12-28-2009 08:57 AM

Thanks for the replies and support friends. I get to start playing with the insurance companies this week. Lovely....

caneman88: I am want the vehicle back to exactly the way it was. I am not a big fan of the NISMO wing and effects.

TX_370 12-28-2009 09:21 AM

Bummer, sorry to hear about that dude.

Besides everyone's good comments here about people texting and talking and not paying attention to their driving, which I see every day, I also try to keep in my mind that most of the cars on the road don't have the brakes our cars have. I have had people following me way too close, and if I had to make an emergency stop, there is no way they could stop as quickly.

yeah i'm never worried about me hitting someone, just someone hitting me. the couple of slightly "oh shit" moments i've had have put a smile on my face because of how quickly i can stop.

:iagree: I had to make an emergency, panic stop last year in my old 350, when a car suddenly changed lanes and about ran a few of us off the road ......... I was shocked and grinning afterwards at just how fast and short of a distance I came to a full stop :p

It's the guy behind you (or the girl behind him) that you have to worry about. Ask me how I know.....:ugh2:

no bueno. i yell at the gf all the time for not leaving room. if someone is on your ass you back off the person in front of you. if i've got extra room to stop i can do it slower so the tard in the ford step-side behind me has time to stop.

PapoZalsa 12-28-2009 09:05 PM

$hit I'm pissed because I already have rock chips in my windshield and front bumper with less than 400 miles on it.

I would be crying also!

KillerBee370 12-29-2009 12:03 AM

:ohsnap1:  :shakes head:

Hate to see this. It's a very defeating feeling. You haven't even made a payment yet? And you have your plate already? You guys must get yer plates fast in Colorado.
