Overheating Issue Going Mainstream??

Hi all,
Just picked up the latest issue of Motor Trend, which also happens to be the Car Of The Year issue. The Z was nominated, however, in the article, it mentioned the fact that after only a couple of hot laps around the track, the car went into limp mode due to oil temps... Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is the first major publication that has brought light to this issue??
Merry Christmas!
:tiphat:

Its not. They've been in the magazines since it came out.

Yeah...This is really old news. They probably didn't put a cooler on the MT test car cause they didn't think the reviewers knew what a Track was....

Kudos to the Fusion for Car of the year though....:rofl2::rofl2:

kannibul 12-25-2009 01:09 PM

A lot of this could have been avoided by Nissan not putting oil coolers in the test vehicles, or, putting coolers in the production vehicles.

Then it wouldn't have been a surprise / issue to anyone once the vehicle went public.

I really don't know what the Nissan Co. enginneers/technicians were thinking when designing some of the sytems in the 370.

Some of the stuff is beyond believe!

yah, like that threadlock they used on the faux fog lamp. :icon17:

The digital clock as a guage is ridiculous as well...why would they do that

MightyBobo 12-25-2009 10:00 PM

Where else? The radio face? heh. I can only think of a handful of other gauges they they could have used, but then they'd have to find a place for the clock.

Why not the radio face? That's where the clock was on my 350. They could've also moved the clock over to the digital information display on the left, so that we could toggle between clock, mpg, outside temp, etc. etc. I do miss having the digital speedometer in the first center gauge pod.

Personally, I'd want an oil pressure gauge. Those come in handy...

spearfish25 12-26-2009 06:47 AM

I just wish my fuel and water temp gauges were slick little needles and not that massive silver plastic atrocity.

I'll agree with that, too :)

Althought the Fusion is a GREAT car, MT is a shětrag and their COTY award has been a joke for decades. But the mainstream media still touts the award, go figure.

:iagree: and a clock on the radio just like my other cars.

MightyBobo 12-26-2009 07:40 AM

BTW, worthy to note I dont disagree with the clock on the radio face - every other car Ive had has had that, but it seems a lot of asian cars (and Fords?) like to put those totally dedicated clocks. Why, I'll probably never understand. I kinda like GM's setups.

I dunno, maybe newer Fords? Every Ford I've owned had a clock on the radio. What do you like about the GM setups, it's been a long time since I've owned a GM product.........

MightyBobo 12-26-2009 07:45 AM

I couldnt remember for sure, maybe Im just thinking of something else. What about the Foci?

GM's head unit displays are easy to read, and I like their steering wheel controls WAY better than the 370's chintzy ones...I also like the fact that their BASE radio is an MP3-playing CD player. The base 370 head unit is pretty ****-tacular.

The ironic thing about the US Auto industry is that Ford and GM are probably making the best cars they've ever made right now. Ford stock just hit a multi-year high.

I wont lie, Ford's doing everything right now it seems. The F150 did well, the Fusion got car of the year, the Focus is a great success...bout the only thing they dont have thats pretty damn good is a freaking minivan.

DooDooBrown 12-26-2009 08:43 AM

Yeah, but who needs a minivan? Ford is just ahead of the curve and realizes that we don't need them on the roads anymore! Anyways, I also have to agree with you guys on the clock in one of the pods... Don't like it at all, wish they would have taken an oil pressure gauge. I have seen this gauge avert disaster a couple times before, and really think our Z's could have benefited from it!

MightyBobo 12-26-2009 08:46 AM

Was a great diagnostic tool in my 2000 Camaro...they ALL had an oil pressure gauge...

WICKED_GRIN 12-26-2009 08:59 AM

Instead of a goofy digital clock, how about a programmable digital interface with options such as oil pressure, analog clock, back up camera etc. Nissan could make it a factory option like Porsche’s Sport Chrono Timer Display.

pulpz 12-26-2009 09:13 AM

Many of the interior features could be improved, but would drive up cost. I think Nissan was locked in on <$30K base price for marketing purposes.

I would like more customization of gauge usage and location, but at the end of the day I think they did a great job.

All the money went into performance oriented hardware, and bang for the buck can't be denied. Keep in mind VDC is now standard, the seats are improved, improved interior material, etc. while they cut cost on windshield wipers, etc.

But if they put it on stock, everyone buying a Z would have to pay $500 - $1000 more for the car when not everyone needs it. Typically, only those who go to the track or live in very hot climates. This would have affected their price point.

I agree but we will see when Summer comes around.. because it can get hot in some states where the Winter is nasty.

Errr...You have one in the left gauge screen. Scroll through the options til you get to it. I leave mine on all the time..

planning on swapping the clock for an oil pressure gauge.

also, was looking forward to the real TPMS where it told you the pressure of the tires. i was definitely disappointed when i saw that the 370 has just a dummy light :shakes head:

Well thanks, I haven't got the chance to mess with the car. I looked thru the Owners Manual and did'nt see anything. Thanks!
