what does everyone use - cheap cost OBD reader for Iphone? There are so many versions and i have had a couple in the past the just dont ever seem to work. I guess it could be user error, but i just really do want a plug and play system. hoping to spend under 30 bucks if possible.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions, emotional outbursts?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can spend < $30 and get a good one. I spent more.

which one do you use?

I've heard OBD Link LX works well.

I bought the ScanTool OBDLink MX Bluetooth for three reasons:
1) listed compatibility with "Torque" app
2) warranty coverage
3) feature to determine when car is off and go to sleep, ensuring it doesn't drain your battery when parking for a week or more

I had it before I bought the 370 last year, I've been very happy.

It is $80

I use the OBD Link LX it works great and serves it’s purpose. You will find them for different prices you will have to shop around. I found them on www.ebay.com

A few questions before I would recommend one. What are you trying to use this for? Logging data or are you trying to have a scan tool?

Luke370 03-29-2018 09:06 AM

i just want to be able to see whats going on. temps, any codes, etc

There are going to be different features of course, but the main difference between the $30 and $80 bluetooth units is going to be the amount of data it can transmit. You may find that the cheaper unit is not capable of displaying data from every sensor you want all at the same time. And you may not be able to log as much data at the same time. But if you are just looking for some basic readouts on Torque and not much more, the cheaper unit would probably suit your needs just fine. Then again you may find that the extra cost is worth it for the nicer unit.

I love my BlueDriver. Best OBD Bluetooth scanner for the money. Regular updates and great customer support. Very slick iPhone App.

99.00 seems a bit excessive for what you get from them.

I would look into launch icarscan. 158.00 you get full access to 5 car lines of your choosing, ea additional costs about 30-50. You get 3 quick functions to choose (TPMS, ETC reset, Battery reset etc etc) ea addition cost about 30. You get full vehicle access and by directional controls of the vehicle. My friend tested this thing on a bmw vs a snap on solus or modis I forget which and this actually had more functional control.

Only thing that sucks is it doesn’t really log, so if your looking to log data then this isn’t the route to go.
