Just got out of the movies and came out to this :(

Just left the movies and I come to the parking lot to this :(

Filed a claim with my insurance company because the person that hit me was nowhere to be found!

She's a 2017 PW base with only 15500 miles on her. Crappy thing is I just got her 15k maint service today too.

Is PW going to be a pain to match?

Got my car back yesterday 04/05/18. They did an amazing job!

Dang. Is that where someone backed into the hood? Or am I seeing this wrong

God-Speed 03-21-2018 04:38 PM

Go back to the movie theater to see if they have any surveillance cameras. It may be worth a shot. Sorry to hear about this.

JARblue 03-21-2018 04:39 PM

:iagree:

It's the bumper, Spoiler.

Yes, a crappy shop will have difficulty. PW is 3 stage and difficult to match. Good shop should be able to take care of you though. Personally, I would just pay for the touch up myself as I don't feel its enough damage to file an insurance claim. But that's just my :twocents:

killuchen 03-21-2018 04:43 PM

Yea, I spoke with the theater manager and they don't have cameras where I parked.

I did file a claim already. Just waiting for them to send someone out to look at it.

I assume they would have to repaint the whole bumper?

JARblue 03-21-2018 04:50 PM

Insurance probably won't pay for that. They'll likely just touch it up and blend it. If you're not happy with it, you make them do it again until they get it right.

That's probably a better route than repainting the whole front bumper ya? I would like to keep the rest of the bumper's factory paint if possible.

JARblue 03-21-2018 05:02 PM

It's probably easier for them to blend a small spot within a panel vs blending entire panels (e.g. bumper to fender).

But the Nissan factory paint is not anything to write home about. The clear coat is thin and pretty weak. A good shop would likely use a better clear coat. But that in itself is not a sufficient reason to repaint the whole bumper.

jchammond 03-21-2018 05:21 PM

sorry to hear ,,, lot's of pos driver's out there.

Ahh gotcha thanks for all the help! I appreciate it.

FYI just saw this in the classifieds.. might be worth a look ;)

NISMO IX 03-21-2018 08:14 PM

Sorry to hear that happened. Always park far away from the herd and walk a bit further. People just don't care, guarantee you the person knew they hit you. A decent person would have left their info under your wiper or elsewhere.

DamnThatZGuy 03-21-2018 08:16 PM

This is why,

1. My Z is not my daily

2. If I park it in a public area it's faaar away and next to a curb. Never park it with other cars.

Zoren 370 03-21-2018 10:52 PM

You sure you got that from the movie house?

Did you go to a grocery store prior to that?

Looks like a grocery cart hit to me or someone keyed your car using a rock or any type of metal object.

Ventruck 03-22-2018 12:53 AM

No ****ing respect for other people's stuff. That's what bothers me most. Even if we're talking about a Civic. You spent something on it. This isn't the wear and tear you're supposed to accept.

I had a close call with someone nudging my license plate in a parallel area. Gave me like no space to exit. F*** that guy. Anything to fit in his space, eh?

It's the kind of stuff that make you to think in that ugly snobby way — like, you're too good to be at certain places with your car because the standard of literal class can get real low.

Either way, I always park far no matter what.

Zoren 370 03-22-2018 01:38 AM

Thsts why I ride a horse around town!

It's parked in the garage when I'm at home. I went to a breakfast place before the movies but I parked far away and there was no parking spot in front of me.

I really needed to use the restroom on my way to the movies so I parked kind of close. There was an open spot in front of my car.

My guess is that someone with a hitch backed up into my car and tapped it...

Quicksilvers 03-22-2018 06:13 AM

Sorry to see that I hope you have a reputable body shop you trust to bring your 370Z to. When you park your 370Z park far away from other people’s vehicles.

370zBLAST 03-22-2018 06:27 AM

I know your pain bro! my front bumper on my poor car got hit twice! Driving home from stop & shop a raccoon ran out in front of me, and I tried to avoid it and he f****d up my bumper! Broke my fang and bent my power steering cooler and my horn, he ran away before I could get his insurance information!. Also, last year i ran inside a gas station quick to grab a monster and I was parked behind a landscape trailer and to myself I'm like "man I feel like this guy is going to hit me but, I'll be quick!" sure enough f*****r kiss my bumper right on the driver side! didn't notice that until 6 hours later. Obviously he was long gone because I didn't notice it until later after.

I had this happen. Went to see a movie on a weekday afternoon, was backed into my spot up near the front. This was a BRIGHT red Mazdaspeed3.

Later when I returned and started to drive off, there was a weird sound. Got out to look and my passenger fender was all pushed in.

Apparently the valet saw some SUV hit me head on (didn't even back in, just straight up drove into the car) then drive off. There were cameras in the parking garage but they "didn't see anything".

Limped it home like that so it wouldn't rub :icon17:

killuchen 03-22-2018 07:52 AM

Thanks for the kind words everybody! Didn't sleep at all last night and had to wake up at 3:30am for work -_-.

If anybody knows and well repped auto body shops near Tampa let me know! I'm going to start searching today.

Monterey Blue is a 3 stage paint too. If the bumper is painted, the book calls for the hood and fenders to be painted also. I ran into this problem when I had my encounter with the possum. The driver side fender and bumper were involved, the shop had to repaint the hood and other fender also. IMHO, I'd either buy the bumper off of the forum, or use some touch up paint and call it good for now.

AestheticCM1 03-22-2018 10:23 AM

I feel your pain. On my 3rd year of ownership of my Z, I had some drunk yuppie dinged my passenger door in a wine vineyard. Thankfully, it was very slight, and wax makes the scratch pretty much disappear. Try dabbing some touch up paint, just make sure you get an exact match.

rey127 03-22-2018 11:54 AM

This happened to me on the first month of getting my car new although not as bad. I can honestly say it's more frustrating when it's someone else rather than yourself. It was at a valet parking but they told me that I should have come forward before leaving the area. I ended up doing my own touch-up from Nissan's paint. It's visible to some extent but wasn't going to pay for a full bumper repaint.

sp911 03-22-2018 02:20 PM

that sucks. I think i'll never bring my z to the movies. that's what we have a 3rd car beater for. can't trust anyone.

Silly Rabbit 03-22-2018 03:19 PM

My fenders were blended to match when I had the vents cut and it turned out great. The Nismo bumper was Black Cherry when I bought it. Matching PW is possible. While you are getting it done, may as well shave that hamburger.

killuchen 03-23-2018 07:28 AM

Insurance company got back to me this morning.

They quoted me for $513.81 lol.

With my $500 deductible. They will cover a whole $13.81 -_- lol

Jhill 03-23-2018 04:28 PM

I just had both my bumpers touched up pearl white as well (my own fault). They came out awesome and better than when I bought the car. The guy fixed spots that the previous repair place didn't do right and then he did a complete clear coat over the entire bumper (guess they had been touched up before I bought the car and I didn't notice but a pro would and once pointed out I saw it). Your looking at about 400.00 a bumper so it's probably less than your deductible. If you were in the Bay Area I would tell you who to go to but since your not I don't know. I can tell you what he told me, they're are two main brands of paint PPG and some other brand that I forget now. The big chain shops use the other brand and of course that's all your ins company wants to cover is the cheapest quote. You want PPG as it's a better water born paint than the other and then also talk to the guy about what clear he will use as even PPG has two and if not requested then usually they will use the lower grade (although still good and not cheap it isn't their top shelf). Like anything automotive now days you have to do all the leg work yourself to make sure your getting the right stuff.

Junkman2008 03-24-2018 12:33 AM

If you want it done where it won't look like your 5-year old fixed it, you'll have it professionally repaired. That damage is down to the panel. Anything short of a respray is going to look like Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater.
