Default 370z engine/ auto trans power capabilities

Hello guys, new to the forum, did some digging, but can't seem to find solid answers from the pros.

I am looking at getting a 370z auto, is there a certain year to stay away from? I hear if going auto, only get the sport model, unsure of reasons why, 7 speed/paddle shifter?

My main concern is, I like to go fast, seen these cars go 12's with bolt ons, but curious as to what these cars and their autos can generally handle whp/trq wise before a unsafe level? Are these engines/auto trans solid for the most part? I would definitely be turboing in the future if so once I find a good deal on one.'

Someone in the last week or so got 768 out of a stock motor.

NEW 1/4 Mile Record + Stock Motor HP Record Dynosty 370z

Looks like roughly 500rwh is where folks start to have trouble, but the real issue with an AT is torque.

AT Power Needs !!

Lot of info has already been covered on Auto Trans power intake the FI section of forum is overloading with it

Seems to be 500WHP before things go south even thats really pushing it, I see you can keep Stillens Supercharger kit at a low output increasing reliability. Over 500HP is a time bomb with an AT, There is the option to have the AT rebuilt by a company called "Level 10" I think its close to 7k a rebuild but gives u an incredibly handle on output

Only hard mod difference in sport/non sport is the wheels/diff, I advise a 2012+ comes with the "Oil Cooler" and by then most issues have been sorted out, I believe the 2015+ no longer come with Paddle shifters so be wary of that

Going FI will change a lot about the car and will require more mods, IF you decide to get a Sport you will most likely be swapping those already upgraded parts thus nullifying the point in buying that model in the first place

To search this site, I go to one of the web search engines (Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, et al) and add "site:the370z.com" to my search string. Works better for me than the site's search function.

That's a 10-4 on the paddle shifters. My 15 Sport Tech is equipped.

It's only the '15+ non-sports that don't have paddles.

Was just at Real Auto Dynamics asking the same question "How much WHP can I add to my Z with a Level 10 valve body upgrade and 500 seems to be the limit with a Stillen SC

If your going turbo then doing a complete trans upgrade is suggested.

I have a 2011 AT with zero issues.

The transmission is solid. However, if you're going FI, you will probably want a transmission cooler.

It's not hp that you need to be concerned with on the auto, it's torque. Over 400ft-lbs and you're going to have issues in the upper gears. Of course, the Stillen kit not only won't make that amount of torque, but also it'll kindly grenade your motor to preserve transmission life.

Question: I just had a Transmissions cooler installed on my 2013, Automatic, Uprev tuned Z, My Z felt very bit of the 300 whp and 275 torque that it was dyno-ed at when first tuned. Now all the gears are flat 1 though 5 -- My question, can they some how may have deleted my tune ??????

If your installer disconnected the battery during the install, it will take a few minutes for the ECM to relearn. Go for a 15-20 minute drive, under varying load conditions.

Or they may have forgotten to plug something back in. Or broke a connector or sensor. Use an OBD reader to look for out-of-spec readings.
