Really? A Civic beats a Z

2017 Type R vs 2018 370Z vs 2018 STI

in circuit? yeah, in drag race? no

It was a base and a Nissan beater. In fact it was the only one Nissan could find for R & T. Nissan doesn't care. Now, if they drove one of our cars here in the forum bolt ons and all, then it would be a different story. I say this because you are comparing an old 8 year old to a young buck in the Civic. Many dealers by the way do not sell their Type R's at MSRP. It is way overpriced right now and not really at the rate published by R & T. I still find the Civic more as a direct competitor to the Focus RS but R & T was going for an all Japanese line up. If Mitsubishi were still around with their EVOs then the Z would have been out of the picture. Would be different if they put a Nismo to play along.

The type r will be no joke of a car I'm sure but it's really a different category. I'm too old for a type r now days and won't put up with a manual in Bay Area traffic. I never understand the hate on the Vq engine, I love the note and I don't find it rough at all, I worked for Acura and compared to their v6 it is maybe only slightly rougher at upper rpm but also has a higher rpm (and more power) vs the 4 cycle, well Honda has some of the smoothest 4 cyl but I do not think the vq is rougher in anyway at all.

At the end of the day none of us are sponsored racers so drive what you enjoy and enjoy it for what it is. The z for me is happy in traffic, happy in coastal cruising and happy at the track it's just the right car for me. If I was 10 years younger the type r would be tempting (and I wouldn't have the money for it). With its inflated price and target buyer I'll be interested how many they sell.

Oh and it's that low end boost torque that is making it so fast. Small car hitting 295ft lbs at 2500 is no joke for turn exit, I think my z with bolts and tune is like 275ft lbs.. the vq is not really a torque monster they more like to rev with their overbored engine designe and I think they were around a 1.5 rod ratio.

No, not really! The Civic Type R is a FWD family hatchback with go-fast bits added on. The 370Z is a properly designed two-seater RWD sports car. No one considering a Z would ever opt for a Type R instead (or vice versa). Comparing them is pointless. They are completely different classes of automobile. Furthermore, I seriously doubt that the Type R would have beat a (similarly priced) Z Nismo around a track. Even if it did, who cares!! Anyone who thinks that all that counts is horsepower, 0-60 times and lap times, has it all wrong and maybe they would be happier in a Type R after all.

But the true issue I have with the Type R after having seen it in person is the styling. It's a complete train wreck with enough fake vents and stick-on appendages to give even a ricer-boy nightmares. It looks godawful IMHO!! But that is just my opinion and this car is extremely polarizing so someone else may find it absolutely beautiful. I mean I had a friend once who found Rosy O'Donnell sexy. See what I'm saying? LOL.

And yeah, I'd look completely weird in a Type R at my age. Actually anyone over 19 would look weird in it. Just my 2 cents.

To make it fair for the competition, they put the bottom of the line, skinny tire, shitty brake, shitty tire, version of the Z against everyone else's top end model. You know R&T picked it so they could diss on it.

Civic is lighter by 200 lbs, has more HP/lb so yeah, faster in the straights and out of the sweeper, duh... It cracks me up that it lost ground to the Z through the chicane even with the Z having the skinny tires.
