Dash cam?

Dunno where to post this so I'm just putting this in the general section. Anyone running front/rear facing dash cams and if so what are you running? Been too many moron close calls lately.

TIA...

I'm also in the market, and every single time I start reading reviews, I think "this is it!!!" then more reviews read.... "oh no, maybe not..."

I use a waylens. Works great and the data logging is pretty cool.

Sorry man, I know this "use the search feature" is a big thing here, but all those are very old threads (except for that second to last one). I'm also interested in getting a dashcam but would love to read some recent and updated opinions.

Dashcamtalk.com is an excellent site that does comparisons & tests of almost all dashcams. You can narrow down your choices & then do a side by side comparison.
I also bought 2 dash cam harnesses on Amazon that hardwire into the car's fuse panel, thereby not requiring use if the 12 volt socket plug. The 2nd harness is in my other car & I can swap the camera over in a minute or so should I feel the need or requirement.
My wife bought me a DoD LS460W for Christmas last year, a camera that I know nothing about . She researched it & it does what I want it to do. Customer tech support & accessories are just up the road from me also. In the USA, go to Home - DOD Tech USA
In Canada, www.DoD-Tech.ca.:tiphat:

I didn't see the reference by Madwi referring to Dashcamtalk. My apologies for duplicating the reference.

don't use a dash cam. talked to a lot of cop friends about them they said they use it against the owner way more then it helps the owner. they said most of the times if they see it they confiscated in a traffic violation and view it to bust you. and they view it in any kind of fender bender. and if he thinks he can't figure out who's at fault it could lead to you being the one charged with the accident.

I'll politely disagree on a couple points, but again, it's just my opinion. If the cop can't figure out who was at fault by using the camera, he won't be able to do it either without it.He'll need witnesses, or the "little black box" out the cars in question. As far as I know, they can't confiscate your camera(in Canada anyway) without just cause or a warrant. Any lawyers here, feel free to chime in.They tried to confiscate a cell phone from a guy filming a police takedown recently, but the judge said no can do (in Canada anyway). The only thing I turn off on my camera is the GPS feature, which cancels your speed recording.I think it'll save you, more than hang you unless you are doing something that you shouldn't be on public roads.Almost every night on the 6 o'clock news, the police are asking for individuals with dashcams to come forward if they were in the vicinity of a crime, violation etc at the approximate time of the occurrence.

fantaZ, Forgive me but what you're saying is so contradictory. In the first post, you "talked to a lot of cop friends". In your 2nd post "You must trust cops i do not."

If you don't trust cops. Why do you have a lot of cop friends and why do you believe what they say? It really does not lend credibility to your initial statement.

Personally, I always listen to and obey the cops. Does that mean I trust or like every single one of them? Of course not as it's just like any other skilled work force. Majority of them will be good employees and a few not so good, but in crisis situation, I sure do want them around!

I Train with hollywood police swat team. Shooting drills ar15, shotgun, and pistol. They are my shooting buddies that is it i don't hang out with them outside of shooting twice a month. So yea i trust them to shoot with but not out in society. Cops will and do use anything to bust you. they are here to protect and serve. Not be your friend at a car accident or while giving you a citation. And they will use your dash cam against you if they have to. And the guys i shoot with stated that.

I'm using the Thinkware F770

F770 | THINKWARE

Front and rear facing camera @ 1080p. Only complaint I have is having issue removing the SD card from the slot from time to time and to view on your phone, you have to be connected to the actual camera via wifi

I just saw this and wanted to chime in.

So I know several cops and this is partially accurate but mostly not. First off, the only way the video could be used against you is if you did something wrong. If you’re just speeding and there’s no crash, the cop can’t give you a ticket for it unless he saw you speeding also.

If you were involved in a crash, again unless you did something; the cop can’t use it against you. Now if you’re driving down a main road and doing let’s say 8 over the speed limit and some guy cut you off then you hit them; the cop still can’t give you a ticket for speeding unless he saw you speeding. But the other guy would have caused the accident since he cut you off (fail to yield right of way).

Now let’s say you came to a stop sign, but didn’t actually stop and turned in front of someone and they hit you. In that case the camera would work against you because you ran the stop sign and didn’t yield to the other driver.

Let’s say you were speeding and the cop saw you speeding then pulled you over. In that case the camera would work against you because it’s confirm you were speeding (if there was a speed stamp).

And lastly, a cop could seize the camera but likely wouldn’t. The only way they’d seize it is if there was a crime involved. Like you didn’t have a license, you were drunk, you were involved in a crash and someone died. But even in those cases, the cop would more likely find out if the camera had a memory stick or SD card and simply take it, not the camera itself.

Also, most cops unless they are a complete ***; wouldn’t really care about the camera unless the video from it was pertinent. If it was, then even the “cool cop” would take the video because they kinda have to. Not because they are out to get you, but they do have a job to do.
