Is this a write off?
Hey guys
2010 370z bought it brand new and fully babied. Always garage kept and maintained. So many comments in how clean and well maintained my car is. Driving home some jerk ran a light and crashed into me. Here are the pictures. Do you think its a write off? |
No pics are showing. :(

Sorry wont let me upload the pics gonna try from home using phone.
|
Gurps, that's too bad man. Hope you are OK and that no one was hurt in the accident? Remember, the only opinion that matters at this point is the opinion of your insurance adjuster. He has to make that 'final' call.

Gurps,
That's a tough one! Sorry for your loss! The car is soon to be 8 years old, and I suspect that with the cost of parts from Nissan, even if the airbags didn't go off, the insurance company may write it off. If it were a 2016 they'd most likely fix it. I do know that in my jurisdiction, if the driver's air bag deploys, the car is almost always written off, branded, and could only be used for parts and not rebuilt. Do some homework and get a good body shop to give an accurate account of the parts and cost to rebuild. That will give you a good indication if its worth buying from the insurance company (if their sale price is low enough), and then fixing it yourself. Now, that assumes you have a friend/shop where you can get the work done that you personally can't do yourself, if you're so inclined. I suggest that, because I do. Looking at the pictures (assuming the engine hasn't been pushed back on the frame, etc.) it appears that it possibly could be an easy fix, with say some good used parts. But again that depends on frame measurements and inspection under the hood. If it was mainly cosmetic damage, I'd fix it myself. But again, I have 3 other vehicles to drive, the tools, space to work on it, and I'm retired and love a challenge. I feel for your pain, and I sincerely hope it works out for you. Gene |
Glad your ok!

Thanks so much for the feedback and the well wishes everyone. Amazing community here!

That picture makes it look more like you ran into him.

I was not suggesting that you were at fault, just the picture makes it look like that. If I were to see that picture without knowing the story behind it, that is what I would think. But I know that it was not your fault.
|
I'd say totaled.. Browse thru my album, I had a similar wreck w/ similar damage. They totaled it because they didn't wanna do the piece and match parts once frame was straightened , if they were going to straighten it, but never did.

Thanks at KMO-II I will do that!

Cooltoy no worries at all my wording should have been a bit more clear. Just sucks when you are driving minding your own business and someone decided to make a dumb move like that. Ruined a car I put so much time and effort into. But, at the end of the day everyone surived that matters the most.
I have been looking at other cars in case they do write it off (BMW 435, Lexus IS and RC, Audi A5) and not gonna lie, none of them stand out or give me the feeling my Z does, even 8 years later. |
Cooltoy is right, He did run in to the other guy, but its not his fault

Glad you're ok, the car doesn't look that bad but there is also a lot you can't see. Did any of the the airbags deploy?
|
Hi no the airbags did not go off they stayed intact. If its just bumper and fender and hood replacement no big deal I am worries more about frame damage etc I can live with replacing body parts but when it comes to the frame and internal damage that worries me.
|
IIRC, the FSM has point-to-point frame measurements for checking for damage.
|
Sorry what does FSM stand for?
|
It's right there in his signature...
