Omg!

I took my car into a local shop to get a couple of small mods done today and the owner gave me a ride in his G37. His engine mods are cai, cbe, test pipes and uprev tune. That thing is fast! What a difference from my stock 370. When I get my FI cbe (hopefully Sept.), it looks like test pipes and uprev will be following. I'm having my Stillen gen 3 cai being installed today.

What if it just sounded fast and he was hammering it....? I have had that happen before to me..I though a friends z felt allot faster then mine. I then raced him and nope about the same....seat of the pants dynos dont work....just sayin.

Then we all spend a lot of money on our cars for a whole lot of nothing. In this case it was obviously quicker.

With bolts-ons, there is a lot of truth to that. The factory has already picked the low-hanging fruit.

Maybe. But then again, maybe not. As per SINISTER, butt dynos are notoriously inaccurate.

I used to own a G37 Coupe, (does he have a sedan because its actually faster) Seriously, race him...G37 is already around 1/2 second slower then our cars due to weight...a tune and exhaust aint gonna make it that much faster unless he is running way lean at WOT and then that aint good no how...
Real improvement will come if you put some turbos on yours and ..then you got something way faster...fo sure.

You forgot to write "raced on closed road and/or in Mexico".

That's the conclusion I draw from reading many, many, many posts here on this forum, plus riding/driving friends' Z cars. With the exception of turbo installations, which are impressive, the improvements are mostly in perception rather than real. As to aftermarket turbos...the only thing more impressive than their performance is the headaches and pains in the *** that seem to universally follow.

Every car feels noticeably faster from the passenger seat. It was likely a little quicker due to mods, but most of your "OMG" came from not being behind the wheel. Let a friend drive your car while you ride shotgun. It'll feel faster than it ever has with you behind the wheel.

Whether I'm driving my Z or my brother is, and he's driving his stock Z or I'm driving his, my car always pulls ahead of his. Granted, it's not a huge change and my car certainly isn't "smoking" his, but it's still pulling ahead. An extra 30-40 hp in a 3200 pound car isn't going to do a whole lot.

On that note, mine "feels" much quicker, probably because of the quicker, crisper throttle response, smoother power delivery, and stronger top end pull to redline.

Of course, things will change if and when I throw a supercharger on mine. :stirthepot:

That's definitely something :driving:

My butt dyno says the Z has about 100 whp less now than when I bought it new 6 years ago. In reality, I've just gotten used to the power and am a better driver now.

Was about to post this before I saw Chuck beat me to it (as per usual). It's the truth.

:icon18: I'd be screaming like a bi*ch my car would seem so fast :bowrofl:

OMG Part Deux: I just picked up my car from getting the Stillen Gen 3 cai installed. It is so much faster (just kidding). I'll truly never know if my car is fast because I'm not letting my crazy friends drive it, especially with me in the passenger seat. :icon17:

Totally this. I personally did such minor work just to address throttle response.

I don't want to put down this car or people trying to have fun with it, but if you want a faster car....go get one. A supercharger to go with this car's handling sounds like a lot of fun, but it's not a practical investment for me.
