The Top Cars of 2009

The Top Cars of 2009
Small Business - Saturday, December 12, 2009 5:16:05 AM by John Choi, Mail.com Automotive Editor

As the year winds down, here's our look back at what we deem as the top cars of 2009. Despite the complete meltdown of the automotive industry, or "carpocalypse" as some have called it, manufacturers still managed to unveil some strong offerings, packed with value, performance and style. Without further ado, here are our picks for the top cars of 2009.

Nissan 370Z - Editor's Top Sports Car & Overall Best Car of 2009
We love cars that put a smile on our face no matter what we are doing. Whether it's undertaking the usual, boring commute or pushing the edges of grip on a backcountry road, we love cars that can do it all. The new 370Z delivers in every facet possible - incredible value starting at under $30,000, a V6 with gobs of torque and horsepower available at all revs and style that catches even the untrained eye. Throw in the available SynchroRev system, and you'll look like a racecar driver with every downshift. As if this isn't enough, there is an almost unlimited level aftermarket support to satiate the need to personalize. Considering this overwhelming list of credentials, the Nissan 370Z deserves our pick as the top sports car and overall best car of 2009.

That could be said about the 350 not the 370Z. Probably a few year down the road that statement will be true.

:confused::confused::confused:

They're pro'bly referring to overall reliability and performance, which, according to CR it's "Much Better Than Average" (i.e. projected reliability). I would definitely agree with that. There ARE the little nuisances--hatch door issue, kinda clunky MT, power window motors acting up, etc., but NONE of those small pains will leave you stranded in the middle of the road. All in all, our Zs are excellent rides.

I wonder if our 2010 Z owners could tell us if these little glitches like the hatch problem, etc. have been remedied in the new model. Sure hope so...

j.arnaldo 12-13-2009 09:22 AM

If they're under warranty, it's the stealerships' responsibility. I'm guessin' it's some kinda spring or other gadget that's supposed to make the hatch door pop up. That shouldn't be so hard for the stealership to remedy. And, yes, let's pray the new one will have that issue eradicated. Greetings.

shumby 12-13-2009 09:28 AM

i hear the 2004.5 350Z has a life time warrenty

j.arnaldo 12-13-2009 10:16 AM

Actually, old buddy, IT DOESN'T NEED IT 'cause it's f-l-a-w-l-e-s-s!!! Cheers, shumby! Ha! BTW, it's spelled warranty.

The good troll!

^ The good lord wouldnt appreciate you making fun of people.

j.arnaldo 12-13-2009 11:57 AM

Having a sense of humor and making fun of people are two different things, old blue' grouch! You too must learn to relax and enjoy this very short life!

The good troll.

Agree with the "clunky" MT, I thought I was still driving my 350. :shakes head:

I've had my hatch fixed by Nissan at no charge with the longer spring set. Not sure why someone would get an 2010 to fix that ;P

Actuall i do have a learning disability that causes words to all flow together and makes it very hrd to spell and read. it took me meny years to over come this and small minded people like yourself that make fun of me. But math is where i learned to excell and not I am a systems Engineer. So i'll thanik you not to make fun. The loard frowns apon people like you. I pray for you forgivness. Remember no need to point out the spec in my eye as you might be missing the log in yours.

j.arnaldo 12-13-2009 01:16 PM

No, no lectures from me, old buddy; all you'll get from me is jokes, a super-duper sense of humor, 350/370 questions and comments, you know, like a 350/370 forum should be! Relax just a little, and you'll see how well we can get along, like Z owners should! Cheers!

GETU1 12-13-2009 01:17 PM

Guys, back on topic.

The 2009 Nissan 370z as best car of the year?? :iagree: No complaints from me.

j.arnaldo 12-13-2009 01:44 PM

I do recognize the plank in my eye--which, BTW, doesn't allow me to see the speck in yours! It seems some of you guys have misunderstood my sense of humor (black at times, I must admit), but no harm, humiliations or derision is even implied. I've been around too long, and don't let blasters get to me (do you remember the Muhammad Ali and George Foreman fight?...Ali's rope-a-dope style foiled Foreman's aggressive style; that's my secret to survive in this human jungle!) So, relax, my friend, I am NOT your enemy. Try me, you'll be surprised at how easy-going I actually am!
