Recent Freeway / Highway Runs
Over the past eight weeks I've had to run up to OKC from Austin four times. About 800 miles r/t. Rather than fly, I opted to take the Z (2009 Sport / Tour 6MT). I've taken the direct route up I-35, and I've taken the back route to the West up and down 281 and various other back highways and roads.
The fun factor driving this car never fails, even on long freeway stretches. It's also comfortable enough for these longer drives. Running up through the gears on/off ramps, dropping a gear or two for spirited passing, or just cruising along at 80+ (and often sometimes quite a bit faster when conditions permit). And at 26 MPG even when running at higher speeds for long periods, that's icing on the cake. I don't think I'll ever tire of this vehicle, and I'll see it in my garage forever. Just thought I'd share. I2D. |
Thanks for sharing and :iagree: :iagree:
I drive all over Texas in the Z for my work. She's seen (mostly from a distance) every state/country bordering Texas at one time or another - 93K miles and counting :driving: I particularly enjoy driving out Lime Creek from FM 620 and then taking FM 1431 towards Marble Falls as long as the traffic is minimal. If I'm heading West, I often take this route out of town being that I live up near Cedar Park/Round Rock. *edit* Also, I highly recommend an Ecutek tune if you're so inclined. It really helps the throttle response and it can adjust the fans to come on sooner in the Texas heat. Not to mention all the RaceRom features like launch control and multiple tunes as well as gauge and traction control hijacking. |
:iagree: Z's being driven, like it......

26 mpg??? I've never gotten mileage that good. I average about 18mpg on the highway.

Nice man! I put 22k on mine this year. I live in Cincinnati and I drive to Florida and Virginia 2 to 3 times per year. Longest stretch was 14hrs straight only stopping for food and gas. I use the Z as my daily unless it's snowing. I haven't paid attention to what type of mpg I've been getting though. I do know that it requires about 1 tank more than my 13' altima coupe 2.5s did when driving from Cincy to central Florida, but that's probably because I like to have fun along the way.
|
I do see 25.6 - 25.7 MPG's highway (so rounded up to 26). This is when cruising at 80-85, with frequent hard throttle runs 100+. I get 18 avg. in the city.
I've considered the tune which was suggested in the first reply -- but since I don't have any intake or exhaust mods I've thought the juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze. That Lime Creek road run to 1431 is pretty fun, but I tend to do that on my bike. I2D |
I'm about to take my Z on a short road trip this weekend. Been about 2 years since I last took her on a longer trip, I'm excited! :driving:

Just got back from ZdayZ, and the comfort never ceases to amaze me. Drove home on Sunday, 10 hours straight and when I pulled into my driveway, the MPG meter was reading 28.9. This was driving between 75 and 80 with about an hour of delays in Cincy and Columbus. The last time we went, the mileage was at exactly 30.3. If I babied my right foot, I could almost make it from Cleveland to Fontana on one tank...
|
I was considering renting a car for an upcoming trip, but after reading through these posts it makes me want to take the Z. Perhaps I will..
|
I've put nearly 550 miles on the tank several times. Calculated over 29 mpg. Pretty sure Andrew (DE) has hit the 30 mark.
Of course, it's a lot more fun when you're getting closer to 10 mpg :driving: |
I've done DFW to NY, FL, OK, and inside TX which is huge. I love this car. And unlike others. My car has seen it's limits and I STILL don't have any issues except I change the oil more frequently than recommended and tires go often. Other than that. It's a freakin tank. I love it.
|
My fun factor rating is pretty good then. I'm at 17.6 and started at 25. Reset and goes back to it. When I had my tune it started fine and now stabilized at my current MPG. It's a DD and I'm also in LA/OC traffic in the AM and PM and that't the biggest factor.

Awesome GT car @GreyGwen. I picked my car up in OKC and drove it back to NYC, 1400 miles, 20 hrs straight. Stopped only for gas and food. Car was amazing and I instantly fell in love. Gas mileage was great as well, I averaged around 26 MPG. I was pleasantly shocked at how well the car drove during that trip.
Agreed @OP, I don't think I will get tired of this car for a long long time. Fun factor is definitely a major plus. |
I rolled 32mpg with ethanol free 91 octane on a 400 mile trip. I was very impressed

We drove from just south of Pittsburgh to ZDayZ. Run around there. Then back home. Put on about 1,600 mile on this yrs trip. Last year on the way home from ZDayZ. We came home by the way of the Blue ridge Parkway. Loved every minute of it. :D Wife wants to take the Z out to Denver to see her family there. Think she wants to show off the Z. :rofl2: When traveling. We get about 25 mpg cruising at about 75 mph.

The 370Z is a great GT! 4500miles on it already after just 5 months.
I love it's suspension as it is not too harsh. Last weekend we had our second road trip already. This time she took us to Germany. With 100mph on cruise control she gets around 23mpg*. My average is now at a bit below 23mpg*. V/max was 150miles an hour. Still easy to handle but I didn't want to squeeze out the last bit as there were still other cars on the road. Even in the passenger seat she feels very comfy while I let my waifu drive a little. 29mpg must be possible only at very low speeds. I managed once around 30mpg in the 350Z but cruising behind our convoy to the race track going only a few above 60mph. Next trip to Belgium will follow... can't wait! EDIT: and yes, the 350Z with a smaller engine and less hp and manual transmission was definitely thirstier! EDIT2: *A/C on most of the distance |

Seems so. I'd rather prefer to be able to roll down the windows with the key fob. ;)

Recently returned from a 2,150 mile ten day road trip - NJ to Nashville and back via Tail of the Dragon. Trunk had the space for ten days of luggage for me and the missus. And gifts for friends. And two bottles of whiskey from the Greenbrier distillery. The perfect GT!

I just got my account, so I have two to relate:
1) I drove about 500 miles to my parents' over Memorial Day weekend for their 50th wedding annniversary bash. I thought ahead of using the Costco in Lexington to fuel up. I topped off at Barrett Parkway and headed out. Mileage from Costco pump to Costco pump was 357 and with the cruise set at 5mph over the speed limit (from a low of 60mph in Knox County to a high of 75mph) I clocked 29.14 mpg. I am very happy with that. 2) The first weekend of June I drove down to Augusta and back. On the way down Waze had me get off I-20 and on state road 441. This was my first run on two lane rural highways with the yellow dash system. My first drivers license was in WV, so I know all about the dash system. The 370z was sublime at this. Dropping to 3rd from 6th, passes were near instant and effortless (why yes I do have the 6MT). By the time I got moved to 278 then back to I-20, I had missed 45 minutes of stop and go misery due to construction and an accident and racked up 5 passes. Whee. PS I do love Waze. |
Beats the heck out of me what my hwy mileage is but it shows 13.8 combined lol
|
Same here. I'm filling it up and driving it when I want to regardless of those numbers to one decimal place.
|
I didn't realize you were in Austin, that's super close to me. Do you drive a stick? If so I can convince you to do a tune pretty quick. :stirthepot:
