If you do a simple "Flashing Fog Light" search you would find plenty of info.

I personally installed this and it's been working fine for the past 6 yrs

I suggest you check your local laws concerning rear lights.

In the US, technically illegal. That being said both my motorcycles strobe the brake light when I first pull the lever, I've never been hassled over it. I think it's much safer.

This popular Mechanics article for one mentions it.

DOT, FMCSA, NHSTA, they all have language similar to this (this came off one of those actually):

"Requirements for lamps other than head lamps, Lamps to be steady-burning. All exterior lamps (both required lamps and any additional lamps) shall be steady-burning with the exception of turn signal lamps"

I'm seeing an awful lot of flashing high mount brake lights stock from the factory, especially on Kia and Hyundai, so I'm not sure it's enforced. As long as it's just red, I would be comfortable running this, it would be the addition of another color, like blue or amber, that might get the popo down on you.

I did some web searching and it appears that flashing brake light laws vary from state to state. If what I read is correct, California allows up to four flashes before the light becomes constant. Didn't see a list of states and their laws but one of the flasher module makers/vendors probably has one.

So I looked this up, thinking surely California wouldn't have something completely different... Sure enough, 25251.5 Any stoplamp or supplemental stoplamp required or permitted by Section 24603 may be equipped so as to flash not more than four times within the first four seconds after actuation by application of the brakes.

So in California all your brake lights can flash, not just a third brake light. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised this stuff happens all the time, majiuana laws I guess would be the current example in the news. That or perhaps the brake light stuff has been updated / repealed by some other section that I did not see in my search.

Cops in CA don't care about this sort. I've had so many tail me in different jurisdictions and has never been an issue.

This is the one I bought. Added a $0.50 button from the hardware store to program it, rather than just shorting the wires together. Works pretty well.
