No news for next Z yet .. ??

Weeks ago I had been to a dealership for maintenance, and my service advisor told me that there is no specific news or information for next Z coming.

Actually I liked the news because I want my 370Z would remain as the newest among Z series as long as possible.

I don't get it? How can you have the newest Z anything on a 8 and a half year old design with a severely outdated engine, under performing transmissions by today's standards and the oldest looking interior on the market. Our v6 used to be the fastest NA v6 until the camaro matched us. The only bragging rights we have is we're faster than a Toyota 86.

Our cars do feel special with amazing handling and generally don't look too outdated in the Nismo version considering the age but... Nissan needs to STEP UP my man.

ParkStr8 01-02-2017 08:44 AM

The Z is a relatively low volume car...and only eclipsed by the GT-R - which is the REAL Nissan halo car. With that being said...it has always suffered long redesign times, and even a VERY long break. It is not a perfect car...but none are. For what it is, for the price, for the quality - it is still an amazing car. Long in the tooth - sure. But that does not diminish what it is.

The next version is taking a long time due to Nissan trying to figure out what to do with it, EG the GT-R mentioned above. They need to get it right, and also push the production numbers up. And just now Infiniti is pushing out all the various engine models not available previously. The design and platform will depend on those choices as well.

I am about to buy my 2nd ZR after a 2 year break - and will drive it knowing it is a fantastic car for what it is. I have an daily driver '16 S6 - which is also "long in the tooth", and only 450hp (540HP with the tune on)...at the low end of the that segment of "almost supercars". But it is still an amazing vehicle and one of the best cars I have had. It was #55 in a long line.

Lets enjoy what we have...and wait with anticipation what will come next. I have seen a few renderings...and those are a direction I would have no part in. I hope they get the next one right...and build on the good, refine the problem areas, and do away with the horrible.

I hadn't been on here in a while and tried to go thru it...painful. Hence just enjoy what we have and wait. lol

:D my 2010 Nismo is approaching 98,000 thousand miles. Yes it is over 7 years of age but it is still enjoyed daily and always put's a smile on my face. Again it is a 7 year old sports car and with technology changing yearly on any sports car make and brand this is to be expected

shirokenkami 01-02-2017 10:32 AM

Nissan's infotainment, or lack thereof, is what kills me. The technology they're using is about 20 years old. Get with the program Nissan. My 2009 Scion xB had a MUCH better system than the garbage that comes in our cars.

Personally I could give a rat's @ss about that. Give us a decent stereo and keep the car fun to drive, which is what it's purpose is anyway. If I wanted to pay $20k more to drive my living room around I'd buy an Infiniti.

And if I wanted a car with no amenities I'd just buy a race car which does what you're describing far better. It's 2016, a radio that can interact with devices via Bluetooth/USB is pretty much standard on most makes/models. This isn't a major request and every automotive manufacturer in the world is on board for this. Hence my point. I'm about to purchase a $400 radio for mine, if people are paying $20k for a proper audio system then they're f*cking stupid.

If I'm buying a car that was at one point $35k+ and a 2013 model year, I want it to come with a radio that is better than what came in a 1998 BMW 330i. That's not too much to ask.

Didn't the tech package already address all of that stuff?

I'm much more concerned about there not being any meaningful performance upgrades over 9 model years dating back to 2009.

Right, in 2014 they did. Mine being a '13 didn't even have that option, which is still outclassed by pretty much EVERYONE in 2013. It's sad when a aftermarket $400 head unit will absolutely mud-stomp the OEM unit which would make sense, you know, were this 2005.

The performance aspect will likely be addressed on when they change bodystyles. The Q60 uses the VR30DDTT, I'd imagine it's going to be the new 6 cyl option for the Z along with whatever 4cyl they decide to give it. Personally, I wouldn't mind that new light weight Nismo motor they developed in my current chassis. Would make one hell of a road race car.

If Nissan said, "We're making a pure sports car with no infotainment." I'd be all in... I guess ud feel that way cuz I chose the model with no infotainment system. I added a infotainment head unit. But not for that purpose. It was to up the SQ with an aftermarket system.

Xhilr8n! 01-02-2017 09:52 PM

The system on our 2016 Nismo is not too bad. Not great but listenable. It really would not cost them much to make Carplay and Android Auto available.

triso07 01-03-2017 08:27 AM

Yeah infotainment always gets left behind tech wise and the manufacturers have no plans to update the software in them so I truly don't care about that.

Things I'd like to see:

3100lbs
350-400hp
Better brakes
Higher quality materials inside
Less road noise
No stupid nissan vmotion corporate grill

And many, many other topics as well.

Zoren 370 01-03-2017 08:56 AM

The way I look at this issue.

Nissan has finally ended the alphabet by ending it with the letter Z.

What do you think? Is that isnt so?

The End!

Who needs an advance infotainment system when I have my full ARK exhaust system doing an orchestra at 3k rpm. Lol

But I know what you mean....I agree with you on a certain extent.

I have mine 6 years with 44,000 miles on it and I haven't bought a new sports car cuz none have shown me a better driving experience in the price range. But I just can't sit here typing and act like our cars came out yesterday and like we don't need another update. If Nissan isn't trying to outdo the status quo of cars out there??? That's FINE.... But Nissan at minimum should be trying to outdo themselves. Seriously!

Zoren 370 01-03-2017 09:38 AM

I think Nissan thinks they gave as a favor by releasing the new Nismo 370z.
I doubt if the new Nismo faired up in the market when relaunched 2014?

Looking at the business side of things.

To Nissans perspective the main thrust of the business portfolio is on the Infiniti series. That is where the money is going. IMO.

The fight is with Lexus... The 370Z has no competition on its segment to Nissan they are King in this segment so why fix when it's not broke.

370zBoyz 01-03-2017 10:49 AM

there haven't been any new news since 2009 except for the nismo redesign

Dirk McGurck 01-03-2017 12:07 PM

Hybrid Mustang in 2020. That's your news.

Pretty much why I traded my '13 370. Yea, it was a hoot to drive ONCE in a while when I wasnt stuck in traffic. Which was 99% of the time. Crappy radio...crappy? No, downright pathetic radio. Seats are AWFUL. No bluetooth. I did get cruise control. Just like my old 1997 Saab. No, that had ALOT more tech actually. Z...great bargain sports car if youre lucky enough to track it regularly or live in the mountains with no traffic.

You forgot the addition of a substandard oil cooler for 2012+ models.

R E L A X... when it happens it will be worth it. By the way I had a 2011 nismo...and my 2015 has way better tech and interior...the nismo now seems worth it, but still waiting on 400 hp.

Yes.... every single one. Nissan only adds body bracing and coils to a Nismo with a more aggressive tune & exhaust. Then the body kit. But there are NO changes to the physical power plant.

Yup. Unbolt it, back over it, and install an aftermarket one that actually works.

triso07 01-04-2017 12:08 PM

How about the styling ... Infiniti has been great lately but Nissan? That vmotion grill is hideous, they are obsessed with the rear 3/4 window frame-less look, outlandish headlight/taillights, and crazy body lines everywhere.

I'm petrified they're going to ruin what has been such a good looking car in both 350 and 370 iterations.

Spartan 1771 01-06-2017 11:07 AM

Although I'm looking forward to a newer model, I seriously hope they don't do something incredibly stupid like changing the Z in to a cross over or hybrid. I saw a few concept drawings awhile ago that were just awful.

For me, I'm still madly in love with my 09 Touring. I purchased it brand new and it only has 17,000 miles on it today. Shortly after purchase I got married, bought a house, had a baby and sent my step son to college, so the Z became my garage queen. Now all these years later I finally have the time and money to spend on her and I really have no desire to replace her. Yes, the stereo is sub par (the premium stereo in my 2012 Civic EX-L is 10x better then the Bose in the Z.... sad) and for some the headlights are somewhat outlandish, but I think she is so damn sexy. I still turn heads everywhere I go. If she was my daily driver, I would agree with what most are saying here, but as a weekend or road trip car, I still lover her to death.

:iagree: It seems alarming to me people just want to have little to zero driving involvement anymore, and I rarely see more than one person in these suv/cuv things. They're ultra annoying because you cannot see around them, and for some reason unknown to me: Honda CRV drivers believe that they have carbon ceramic F1 style braking ability/love to tailgate, and drive aggressively in unsafe areas, yet, the same people when on an open country road all of a sudden a switch flips in their brain and they're now petrified of going around turns and force you into a 40-60mph up/down in the speed instead of being able to relax with the cruise control on. Then they wonder why they go through brakes more often and people try to then pass them in unsafe areas after patience has worn thin. It's just a lazy purchase decision in my mind.

I can fit firewood n beer just fine in my car, and only having 2 seats has gotten me out of having to cart people around :driving: If I need to move anything, I just pay movers, they can do it better and it's not that much more money. So to me, owning a Z works just fine, so lets pray the next one isn't some watered down bs because Nissan and most giant corporations want to scale out production and the nitch buyer has to resort to more expensive brands.

A few months ago I thought about trading the Z in. My wife has always wanted a convertible, so I was using that excuse to make a purchase. I considered the Audi TT, the Porsche Boxter and a Corvette. I decided against the TT because it lacks horsepower and wasn't as fun to drive. Owing a Porsche has always been a dream, but unless it was the GTS, the performance wasn't any better. The insurance and the maintenance cost for the Porsche was also sky high. The Vett is great, but it's pretty common and was more then I wanted to spend. I honestly couldn't come up with something that was affordable and that excited me. Since then I have been using my extra cash to mod my Z. I don't see any trade-in any time in the near future for me. I'm madly in love with the GTR, but I would need to sell a few organs, one of my neighbor'd kids and rob a bank to be able to afford it.
