what should I demand?
Hello guys..
So.. I bought my 2017 370z (Brand new) about 2 months ago in October, and the part of the deal included Nissan OEM Rear view mirror /w homelink and back up camera. One day later I pick up the car, I find out that the mirror installed doesn't have any visible homelink buttons. So I email my sales guy and asks how I can program this mirror for homelink. Two days later.. the sales guy replies and tells me that he installed the aftermarket one on my car and that the mirror does not have any homelink capability. ( This was done without my consent ) So I ask him to get me the OEM one and make this deal right, and he says i will have to wait 1 month for the part to arrive. Fast forwarding 1 month and 2 weeks, i go to the dealership to replace it with the OEM one. The tech who actually worked on my car did a great job and installed the new one. Now, the problem is the OEM camera has been installed in different location from the aftermarket one and my bumber has a huge hole now... Of course I had no idea this would happen. So i tell my sales guy to come out and take a look at the hole, then he says how the bumper is plastic and will not rust over time. Of course i do not want this hole on a 2 month old car, and asks him to give me a new bumper. He says he's lost so much money on this deal ( sure but it wasn't my fault to begin with? ), and not willing to do so, and see what he can do on monday as it was already late on Saturday afternoon. What would you guys demand from this sales guy? Is a brand new bumper reasonable request from me or should I let him fix this hole? Will the paint crack or get easily damaged after the repair? I did some readings on fixing the bumper holes (mostly due to getting rid of license plate) and i noticed that the putty used to fill a hole pop out over time sometimes. What should I do? |
First off you are dealing with the salesman not his boss. Get the name of the GM and go from there. When you talk to him tell him the story and be polite and professional. The odds are from what you are saying, he knows nothing of this and if he or she is a good GM he will make it right. The last thing a GM wants to hear from is an unhappy customer that just bought a new car. Don't believe the salesman whey they say they lost or made no money on the deal. They have hold backs, rebates and dealerships will also have spiffs on cars. Hope this will help and good luck.

Do not settle for anything less than what you paid for. I would really want them to do better than this. The BBB I think needs to be called and this dealership should be reported. We are talking about a car that will depreciate in value as soon as it left the parking lot, you don't need an extra hole to deal with.

Did you get all this written up on a WE owe? Hope so or you are in trouble. It better say OEM parts.
|
id just plug it. cant see it from the back right unless you look up? id care less.
something like this. Hole Plugs - Accessories - PDR Tools | Paintless Dent Removal Tools & Training |
I'd stick to your demand for a new bumper. In the end if you don't get one then at least you know there are other options to plug it. See Kenchan's post.
|
It is your car so you have to decide what's best for you. My opinion is no issues with the hole. It's not visible and won't hurt anything. You could ask for 3 oil changes or a tranny/diff fluid service down the road and call it a day.

New bumper bro, don't settle .

I'm in the camp to make the higher demand for a new bumper.
You made a deal, they did their Sprite Remix bull**** version of it, had you waiting another month to get it how it was supposed to be, and apparently act like it's all cool and **** to leave you with a hole in your bumper that was never supposed to be there in the first place because it wont rust? **** that. Either have them give you a new bumper, or get it plugged + some additional form of compensation. Like G-S said, connect with their manager because you're dealing with a salesman whose sole specialty is to bull**** his way through everything (no offense to the salesmen who actually have integrity). |

Plug the hole, not with putty or filler of some type but with an actual hole plug. A new bumper that will probably be painted locally might not match the existing paint perfectly and then you will really have something that will bother you to no end, not to mention the diminished value a poorly matched paint job will result in.
You can always paint the hole plug to match the the bumper so it won't be so "eye-catching". And it won't matter if the hole plug paint isn't a prefect match. |

I would personally go for the OEM replacement and if possible at all make them switch it with another Pearl White bumper from a Z they may have in stock. Factory paint is much, much harder than a re-spray. Or if they get you a new bumper and paint it, go for a clear bra like XPEL or a coating to keep the paint from chipping.

New 2017 Car? New bumper for sure.

IF you have it in writing you are golden. If not, well, I hope for the best.

Thank you guys so much for all support! The dealership has agreed to give me a new bumper!!

Fast forward 2 wks fak paint don't match!!
|
I hope they don't pull a bumper off another Z on the lot. I think there is a vin# attached to each bumper iirc. At least tell them to swap the vins.

Wow. That's just not right! I don't understand what's up with dealers sometimes. They act like they did you a favour by selling you the car and you should settle for what you got. I would've gone ballistic if it was my car. That's why my car has yet to see a dealer for any servicing. I realize that I may eventually need to go to one if something crops up that is warranty related but besides that, I will be handling all maintenance items.
Back to your issue, I would not settle for anything less than a perfect car. Period. Even if the hole is not apparent unless you look underneath, I know it's there and it would drive me nuts, especially on a new car. If the dealer does not make it right (going to GM or Owner), I would contact Nissan directly. I once got excellent service after a call like that. Like others have stated, I would expect a factory painted bumper and not a repaint. Let them take it off another new pearl white 370z. That's not your problem. |
It depends upon personalities, where you service your car etc. I am not combative and it would not bother me so I would not pursue it. If I made a scene and got what I want, I might not feel good about taking my car for service there in the future. They could do a ton of damage.
If I intend to use the dealer and his services, why make it a huge deal? |
Dealership
Good for you. I'm glad the dealership finally stepped up.

Glad the dealership stepped up. That salesman is a giant ******* douche who deserves his name smeared locally for trying to duck you over on his mistake on a brand new car.
My sales guy didn't work st the dealership two weeks after I bought mine so the couple accessories he said he'd ordered for me when I purchased it went poof into thin air. They were minor cheapie things not something like this so I let that go without issue, but in something like this I would have absolutely taken them to task on it. Glad it worked out for ya |
I'm a bit late to this thread, but I was in a similar situation ver Christmas too.
I ordered a brand new MY17 Nismo in Storm White, on arrival we noticed a very small mark on the rear bumper and had to play fun and games of who would repair it (Nissan or the dealership). We initially got quotes in for a brand new bumper with paint etc and the cost was crazy (not our problem of course). We also got the price for a smart repair guy to touch in the damaged area. After much deliberation we decided to get the smart repair done on the bumper, and took the car. I could have pushed for a brand new bumper and respray......but this would have been a gamble on the new paint being as good as factory paint. It is also a waste of a 99% perfect rear bumper and factory paint. Atleast this way I can't see the mark any more, and the bumper joins to the rear quarters are all done on factory/matching paint :) For the OP, sounds like you got a good deal anyway as you were swapped onto a factory painted PW bumper :) Glad you got it sorted. |
