I think getting yelled at by mom in front of bystanders is far worse than wrecking the Z. The Z can be fixed, your dignity can't.

There already is the crash, but having to also call your mom to help sort it out is the exclamation point that the kid should've never had the car.

There's a Mustang in the background. My guess is the stupidity of the Mustang driver is so pervasive it permeated into the Z driver and caused the wreck ... probably because it's his mom's lol

Mom being a mom--trying to make a point to a dumbass she gave birth to. Sometimes it is difficult to get through.

As her husband, I'd have a stern word or two for her, if she was auctioning of my car, just because she's pissed.

One stupid move shouldn't be topped by an even stupider one. She's supposed to be the grown up here.

As pissed as the Mom got I think the car is the son's car.

So the kid did something stupid in a fast car. Well that's to be expected and is why you as a parent don't let your kid have a fast car. Kid in high school died that way, 2nd day with a license (or close to that). Parents bought him a brand new camaro z28. Rolled it and died, a friend was in the passenger seat and lived, luckily.

Learn on something slow and underpowered but still handles and work up the power as you learn to drive. Can still get into trouble on a twisty road but it's a lot easier to get yourself out.
