Time to leave..

Well folks, I traded my 2014 Sports package for a 2016 Mazda Miata Grand Touring with 8k miles (paid $2900 difference). Went all the way from Nashville, TN to Mills River, NC (about 300 miles).

Car Max offered me $19k, the best I could get for my Z from any dealer was only $20k unless I traded it for another Nissan.Posted on Autotrader and almost got scammed, got no bids over $21k on EBay.

I wanted the handling but not the power as I seemed to have no control with the Z, taking up challenges on streets and highways with every truck, Mustan or Camaro or whoever wanted to challenge me. After some close calls, a ticket or two, high insurance rates etc., I knew it was a great car but my temperament was poor.

As I drove my Z through the Smokies and Mountains, so effortlessly passing everyone, I balked and thought of turning around and going home.

Traded the car this morning, got into my almost new soul red Mazda Miata GT. I opted for the GT because of the leather seats, double layered soft top and greater comfort than the other trims. Drove the 300 miles home, only 50 with top down.

It does not have the oomph of the 370Z, slower on ramps and such but feels fast while going slow (low slung car). Not as comfortable as a Z but surprisingly not too bad for my 6'4, 210 lb frame. Another surprise was that it's not as noisy as I feared partly because of the head rest speakers and music. Definitely fun driving it. Gave me 37 mpg on drive home, the Z gave me 23.7 mpg on way there.

After a 350 and two 370z's, it was hard giving it up but age, poorer eyesight and slower reactions made my driving dangerous in the Z.

Wish you guys the very best.

LOL!!! Yeah, what I was thinking as well.

Granted, the Miata is a great car. I've had a couple of them, but the Z is... Different. Both are fun, both can get you in trouble. Hell, a 1988 Yugo can get you in trouble.

All I have to say is, no great loss on our part! :nutswinger:

Good luck on the new purchase. The new MX-5 is definitely a beautiful car. As Jay Leno once said; it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.

Enjoy the new ride!

No, he did exactly what he needed to do. Owning a z made him drive like a retard, so he needed something where his extra chromosome wouldn't result in a highway fatality. He'll buy another one in six months and be back here like herpes. At least we get a break from his idiocy for a while. Let's be real here- we're not losing a great source of information for the community. The average iq of this forum just went up dramatically when the door closed behind him.

Zoren 370 12-08-2016 06:40 AM

Chuck the reason I stick around is because of members like you never fails to amuse me! Lol

Love it!

ZeeBabar 12-08-2016 06:44 AM

Other than a couple of gracious folks, the others who responded are the classless retards they talk about. If you have nothing but insults, why bother to get on a thread and be derogatory?

Once upon a time, the 370z's were expensive and driven by educated folks with class. Now, they have become affordable for all the idiots and some of them have to get online to masturbate.

One reason to leave the Z, a great car, is because so many immature, classless trailer trash are buying them used.

Then leave. Calling someone an idiot after they have proven over and over to be an idiot isn't classless. It's just a statement of fact. You have never brought anything to the community. We are not poorer for your absence. Bye, Felicia.

Chuck33079 12-08-2016 07:02 AM

Also, didn't you buy all your zs used like immature classless trailer trash?

Now please, hop into your "used" Miata and :gtfo2:

but da Z is perfect power for street. not slow not dat fast. MX5 in my area is a faking dog.. no twisties so get eaten by camry's and minivans.

kenchan 12-08-2016 07:19 AM

i mean da current mx5 was on my short list too (while keeping my Z ofcourse), but thing is just too whimpy. if i added wider wheels and stuff, den it wont be the nimble car it was designed to be.. wat i really wanted was a modern version of a s2k.

changed gears, ended up getting a STI. lol havent looked back. thing is a blast to drive

shirokenkami 12-08-2016 08:54 AM

Used to have a NA MX5, fun as hell but you'd have been better served with a used S2000. Way more balls, just as fun, and just as reliable if not more so.

JARblue 12-08-2016 08:58 AM

Can't blame OP. Those Miata doors are fuckin amazing!

You didn't have to burn the bridge. People were just joking and having fun. No need to be butt hurt about it. After all, you are posting in the Z community saying that you traded your Z for a Miata. Every forum has "classless, retard, idiot, and immature masturbators" members you're bound to cross road with.

jaedub 12-08-2016 01:13 PM

oh, and IBTL

This is what I did essentially. Kept my Boosted NC MX5 and added a Z to the stable. FYI, wider wheels and stuff don't turn the MX5 into a non-nimble car, unless you weigh it down without upping the power.

100% agreed.

A 10 year old s2000 is still infinitely better than a new Miata. The handling is WAY better. The engine is WAY better. The car puts down more power. The interior is stunning to look at and fantastic to sit in. In comparison, being a previous Miata owner, a Miata is lame with out 10k put into it.

The suspension is meh. The seats are meh. The power is nowhere to be found, the body rigidity is meh. So on, and so forth.

But then again, if OP is blind and can't follow the rules of the road, then yeah, he shouldn't be in a Z, or anything sporty, whatsoever. I'm thinking maybe a bus pass is better suited for him. :icon17:

Aiolos 12-08-2016 01:30 PM

One of my friends has a brand new miata, honestly the car does handle very well, the gearbox is smooth, two fingers to shift it!

It is a fun car to drive, on very technical tight twisty roads it can hold its own.

The downside imo, is lack of power and it is a small car, interior is tight.

Bolt on a supercharger, double the power and it would be even more fun to drive, imo

Nithmo 12-08-2016 01:40 PM

I found the stock suspension to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too soft. It's made for your average, 40-50 year old guy who wants to feel the breeze through whatever remaining hair he has, and not one who's looking for a car to push and mash around corners.

The only reason a Miata can "hold it's own" is because of how light it is. If it weighed anymore, the suspension setup would be horribly noticeable.

It took 4 chassis bars and some nice coilovers to get the car where I wanted it.

This was my main reasoning for picking up a late model Nismo. I found I needed mods (rubber, suspension, and boost) to enjoy my MX5. Stock just wasn't going to do. Rather than get a second MX5 that would need all the same stuff again, I just opted for a ready-to-go sports car that already has all of that situated. Modding is cool, but has a lot of inherent inconveniences associated with it. I'm not escaping it, but limiting it only to one car.

Good luck with that. I bought my Nismo over another Mustang because I thought the same way... now there's about $5k worth of sh*t I still think I need.:rofl2:

If you are into something, it never can stop unless you change the basic equation. Folks into making doing will always look at what they can do regardless of the car they purchase. If it gets out of control. You can stop checking out possibilities, get off forums and try your best or you can buy a car that will not inspire you to look for mods.

Mods, like alcohol, can become a disease for a few. Some are addicted but in denial.
