I am sure this has been asked....
Why is there no oil pressure gauge in the 370Z? Is that not one of the most important gauges you can have???
Surely I missed something....... Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk |
That's a question for Nissan...

Don't know, but for me it's a toss up between oil temperature and oil pressure. Sure, both would have been nice but I'm glad that I can see the oil temperature at a glance. What Nissan should have done is replaced the stupid digital clock with oil pressure gauge.

The idiosyncrasies in designs and engineering going from 350Z to 370Z alone are mind-boggling to me; from the instrumentation to steering column lock, although the change in design of the door and hinges is considered quite an improvement.

Try this one: My winter beater doesn't have a coolant temp gauge. I consider that the most important gauge.

The gauges are pretty much for show. With the exception of the time gauge, other 2 are quite useless.

"most important" is a hefty claim

Even if it had an oil pressure gauge, there would be literallly No chance It would be a real one. It would be an idiot light in the form of a gauge. The reason they don't put real oil pressure gauges in cars like this is because normal casual driver doesn't understand that oil pressure constantly fluctuates with when driving and they would complain of an issue. The original NA miatas had real oil pressure gauge and dealers were flooded with cars getting checked for oil press problems. For that matter most temp gaugges are same way. Just glorified idiot lights. I'm sure someone will chime in Miata girl car or whatever etc . There are plenty of non gear head types driving 370z who would complain as well, and plenty of people racing miatas who understand oil pressure. Bottom line manufactures/dealers don't like 5000 non paid visits to diagnose phantom issues due to lack of understanding how things work.

I dont know why there isn't one. But I do know if there was one there would hundreds of threads about everyone asking is my oil pressure ok.

I guess if they were life long machinist's, like myself, they would be more concerned with the points where engine wear begins........
Gotta understand when the engineering, is beyond real life expectations......... Everyone wants a sports car, but few want to realize the that the cost of a Honest To Goodness Sports car is beyond what most are willing to pay........ But damn they are fun........... To me, it seems like IF there is a question about the oil pressure gauge, people would ask about it during the test drive, whether they buy new or used. Unless people buy cars without test driving them. Then they're simply idiots.

my friend had a nine-teen seventy something vw scirocco with an oil pressure gauge and every time it got low he'd put some more oil in. even so much as to pull over to the side of the road, grab a bottle of oil from the behind his seat, and pour some in without even measuring the level! that may be enough reason not to have one, people just don't understand what it's for.
