You probably shouldn't be posting on a public forum that you were doing 100, or 120mph.

If you're being tailgated, chances are that car wants to go faster then you. If there is room to your right, BY LAW slower traffic keep right, doesn't matter what the speed limit is. It's safer for everyone on the freeway, keeps traffic flow smoother, and avoids these situations. |

There was a car in front of me fyi. Secondly, it wasn't on a long, desolate highway in like in Florida, Georgia or wherever; yes I visited these places on business so I have a good idea of what traffic is like over there. Secondly, it was a 45 mph zone. The a55hole behind me doing this, abruptly caught up to my rear out of nowhere. He was easily going 65 on a 45, whereas i was going about 50....Yeah man, don't get ahead of yourself and pontificate. Things in life aren't as black or white as you think they are. People don't always go the speed limit, make complete stops at red lights/stop signs (if they're making a right turn) i.e. "California stops," people don't always use their blinkers when changing lanes, or when they're in opposing traffic about to make a left turn in front of you. I was willing to take the risk of whatever consequences that night with the guy tailgating me. I don't look for trouble, don't stick my chest out acting hard, try to act alpha male, etc....However I RARELY lose fist fights. |
Yeah right

I raced a DeLorean once (not in the Z). He was winning until he hit 88 mph and suddenly ended up back at the starting line

I'm usually pretty good in the mirrors , if I see someone creeping up and I'm in the passing lane , I'll just switch over and let them pass no biggie

Also to note, Florida has the highest concealed carry rate in the nation. Road rage happens all the time, here's a gun pulled incident in Tampa from a little bit ago; and look, caused by another person in the left lane when they shouldn't have been in the first place. https://youtu.be/dsKdjuWK2Yw?t=2m40s So you just acknowledged that both you AND the car in front of you are actually the 'a55holes' because you were both cruising in the left when there was room on the right and you weren't passing. Grats you don't loose fist fights? who cares? :ugh2: Again, you could GTFO of the left lane unless you're passing. |

I am pretty much always going faster than traffic, but as I don't like to be held up myself, I do not like to hold up others. If there is traffic in the middle/right lane(s), I will often speed up so as not to hold up the car behind me and find an opening to get over and let them pass. If traffic does not allow this, then the downshift-then-accelerate-to-create-a-gap method I mentioned earlier does an excellent job (in my experience) of letting them know that you don't appreciate them tailgating without being a d!ck about it. |

Funny real story...
Buddy's gf, she's mellow and easy going, never pick fights...but the prototypical Asian driver that completely fit the comedic stereotype. One day buddy told her left lane is for passing only, that she should move back to right lane if not passing. Boy was that a nuclear launch button...She got defensive faster than a P1 hitting 60mph... "NO, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO MOVE? I HAVE TO RIGHT TO BE ON THAT LANE!!! I'M JUST MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS!!!" We proceeded to tell her it's the law, and she wouldn't accept that. |

Washington state no has freeway signs saying "camp in the woods, not the left lane" get a clue, don't be an @ss, just GTFOver. It's not personal, we just want by. Click over, let us by, you lose NOTHING! |

Man, this thread turned into a train wreck. Some of you guys have anger management issues. Be courteous on the road and folks will be courteous back. Drive like a hooligan or a slow left lane poot head brake checking everybody, you may pay the price. I have seen both sides of the street the last few months in my area. If you guys could just stay away from me, I will be much happier.

I'm in full agreement about just taking the high road and letting whoever by and through and I'm not seeing eye-to-eye with the speed they want to run at.
But the mentality and whatever complex of other drivers in the city can be something else, particularly in lane-blocking situations. I'll make the point if safe: it's not their lane, they're not fast the fastest car on the road, quite frankly I can control the relationship between myself and the other car as I please if we really want to go that route. The other day when I was looking to get in a lane....guy who was already in it and ahead was moving pretty slow so I figure I'll casually pass, then switch over. This guy keeps matching to deny me. All of a sudden he ****ing cares. Not to give off the impression I'm reckless (no excuses but yeah it was a clear road), but by the time I could get in the lane, he must've literally topped out (older Cherokee). Of course I could've just taken the position at will if I really wanted, but the lengths people can go to desperately and pointlessly have their way. |

Taking the high road was clearly in reference to letting others pass. He then gave an example of trying to pass someone who couldn't take the high road and just let him by. So the answer to your question is no, the Cherokee did not take the high road nor was it ever suggested that he did. Quote:

I just got back from Orlando and holy chit, the crappy drivers abound....
The speed limit on I4 is 70 mph, but you couldn't prove it by me. Those that weren't doing 80, passing to the right and left of the middle lane; were doing 55 in the hammer lane (and all the other ones too). Then I got to spend a lovely 4 hours getting from Orlando to Sarasota on Thursday..... this is normally a 2 hour trip. I left Orlando at 1, it took me 45 minutes to go 3 miles..... needless to say, when I got to Sarasota and caught up with my friends, we went straight to the bar. They asked the waitress to give me a double Patron, with the explanation that I just got in from Orlando.... in the idiot traffic....:ugh2: |
