The whole thing seems odd:

Did it use oil before? If the dealership did the oil changes, did they ever alert you that it used X amt of oil, etc during the last change?

Were you running full synthetic?

I had a highly modified wrx at one point, that pos would burn a quart of oil after about 1500 miles into an oil change cycle... The Z seems to not burn a drop at all being a simple NA motor.

My money is on they under filled it, impossible to prove though.

Regardless of OP's neglect to check fluid level, I wonder if the dealership screwed something up during the last service, aka didn't fill enough or put 0w20 in (and hot engine shear it down to like a 0w10).

Again, sorry for the mess and best of luck.

Yeah I fully take responsibility for not checking things myself. This is the first time I've owned a car and not done the maintenance myself. I got so used to the dealership doing it that I just didn't pay attention anymore. My stupidity.

Getting an engine delivered to my buddy's shop next week and going to start doing some prep work on the car over the next couple of weekends. Hopefully I can finish the swap in a single weekend, but we'll see. Just going to go back to doing all the work myself.

Impossible to prove if dealer screwed up the last service so I'm not even going to bother trying to blame them for anything. I agree this all sounds fishy that only 1k miles over suggested maintenance that the engine would die like this. Hell my dad's suburban is about 4k miles over it's recommended maintenance and that thing is somehow still puttin along.

Learning a very expensive lesson here and thought I'd share my mistake with others here so that they may learn from my fug up.

You know, while the engine is out, could do some upgrades...

It's a pretty opportune time for a TT kit. =)

Or just deep cleansing. :ugh:

I would sure as hell try to blame oil starvation on the dealer. They're the ones doing the oil changes. Forget the warranty. That's just negligence.

Of course, you did not pay attention, so enough time has passed that the dealer is likely to get away with it :ugh:

I found that for whatever reason my car after 5000k km it burns a bit of oil naturally at a quicker pace. 8000km ~ 5k miles is what i did the first time. after that first time i do it atleast every 5000km. cause you know... vroom

every car although the same, is a little different.

cause mine came with 332 hp rating... did yours?

njobe89 08-18-2016 06:53 AM

all 370z come with a 332hp rating unless it's a nismo lol
