Bose System value?

How much is value of the Bose System? I know Bose is frowned upon, but i was wondering if any dealership would remove it and just give me the base instead with all the touring goodies? And so that way i would save the money in negotiations?

Thoughts?

kenchan 11-23-2009 03:43 PM

would be very expensive to physically remove it so i dont think your negotiation plan is going to work (?)

why dont you just get the base and add a HU later, instead of getting the touring model and down grading it?

Honestly, they wouldn't bother.

Not only is Bose crap (though still better than most OEM systems), but it's installed from the factory, and has a number of pieces to it that would require removal. They'd not even come close to breaking even, even if they sapped some poor sucker into upgrading their "base" model with a Bose system.

The amount of money they'd have to charge someone for the upgrade, to cover their costs, would be enough that the person being suckered would have to question if it'd be cheaper and/or better to get an aftermarket system installed - then again, I'm the type that would question why someone would want it removed, if it's "so worth it"....

alvinmathew88 11-23-2009 11:24 PM

Well the thing is I want everything in the Touring except the Bose...

I plan on putting in complete aftermarket audio...

So okay, do yal think a dealer with let me get a base and add in the Homelink/Cargo Cover/Leather seats? And if i did would i end up getting priced less than a touring?

Sounds like you need to decide if you can even afford the car..Nickle and diming pieces and parts to save some bucks, then talking about installing an aftermarket stereo doesn't make a lot of sense...

YOu can buy a base and do those thing, but it will cost more to do with OEM parts than the cost of the touring package. Just the seats alone will cost you more than that unless you go with cheap aftermarket leather.

vipor 11-24-2009 09:01 AM

the Bose system consists of (at least) 4 components:

Head Unit
Amplifier (behind the seats/under the floorboard)
Speakers/Pods

Each speaker is typically mounted in a ported enclosure and when replacing them, you would need to fabricate a new bracket or stand-off.

When completely bypassing a Bose system and upgrading the head unit and speakers it is usually best to run new wires to the speakers directly from the amp or head unit.

alvinmathew88 11-24-2009 09:06 AM

Haha, its not a matter of what i can afford. Its just i dont want to pay for something im going to throw out anyways and that way if i can just save on the cost as well. If its plausible, by all means im up for it, and i was trying to find out other people's opinions on what the dealer would and wouldnt do! Every penny counts!

vipor 11-24-2009 09:08 AM

i'd recommend trying to get the system without the bose. easier to upgrade for sure. early on i wanted a 350z enthusiast partially because it had no bose.

get a base sport, some nice aftermarket seats and an indash navi

The only reason I went for the touring was for the seats. At the time I couldn't care less about the other features.

However, since then I've determined that I'm ok with the Bose system, I still don't have an XM account, I use the hell out of the 6-Disc changer (all loaded with WMA/MP3 files), and I've got my new cell phone set to use the car's bluetooth.

End result, it's been worth it for me.

DO I plan to eventually pull out the Bose system - sure...but, then again, I'd lose cargo (lol) space in that's I'd have to have a seperate sub, or lose the spare tire for a sub/amp/etc (and just use a roadside kit)

Anyhow....

alvinmathew88 11-24-2009 09:17 AM

I initially wanted to go with the base, but after seeing those leather seats, its a must!

maybe you can find someone selling theirs :D

chief_Roka 11-24-2009 09:54 AM

Just get the base... 90% of dealerships will add the leather seats for $1100. (@ least that's the price been quoted to me) Then get the $320 home link mirror. And then get an aftermarket hatch cover at a custom shop about 500. And u save $1800 and u have the bulk of the touring options without the bose.

your not really "throwing" anything out, unless u plan on keeping the car forever and not putting the factory system back in...if so, u could always put the parts on ebay.

hahaha, that's funny cause the reason why i didn't go for the touring was because i wanted cloth seats. :icon17: i didnt care for the bose or nav so didnt really mind it. but i did want the aluminum pedals and homelink mirror so install that later and also added a dvd HU with backup camera on mine. :)

areyouin729 11-24-2009 12:50 PM

a dealer would honestly prob hand you your keys to the trade back

I really don't understand the logic here, it seems like you can afford the car if you are this concerned over a Bose system being removed to save $20 a month at most.

NAV is an option, case and point, mine doesn't have NAV.

When I bought an 04 350z I had the touring model for the leather. Knowing I was going to upgrade the audio I just gutted it and boxed it up. I actually sold it on Ebay for 400 bucks.
Installed aftermarket system and ran all new speaker wire.

I would suggest you do the same.

or

Do as I did this time:

Buy the Sport/ Base model
Upgrade your system with a quality audio system
Upgrade to a quality aftermarket leather

You will spend about 4k on those extras which is what the touring upgrade is and your system will blow the Bose away.

alvinmathew88 11-24-2009 08:26 PM

I guess ill be going with the touring + sport.. I was trying to save myself some time and money by not having the Bose system.. Oh well.. I dont really see a buyer actually wanting to buy the bose system when i pull it out of the car.. but we'll see when i buy it... I plan on keeping the car forever...

Just out of curiosity what can i expect when i sell the Bose Speakers + Head Unit w/6 disc changer + Front trim + Sub??

Thanks for everyone's help...

Actually, just a tangent to your question, is there away to get the head unit to run on AC power? i wouldn't mind trying to turn the bose unit into a sound system for a room... I think that could be quite cool and different...

Soon 04-22-2010 08:20 PM

this bose system sucks tell you the truth

Yeah I have to agree with you that it's not all it was cracked up to be. I do like my sound, at home I use Audio Technica and Denon headies and have an amp and seperate CD player setup.

This was my first car with a non-generic sound system and i was very underwelmed.

cee dot are 04-22-2010 08:45 PM

yeah you can turn any head unit into a home radio.. im not sure of the part you need but it converts 120v to 12v.. ive done it before but it was about 5 years ago and forgot what parts i used.. it was at a mobile electronics school in new jersey..

edit : kinda looked like this

PapoZalsa 04-22-2010 09:54 PM

Don't even bother!

The BlueMax 04-22-2010 10:13 PM

No highs, no lows, must be Bose.

You can buy a BASE + SPORT and just have the dealer install the leather seats as an option? I was not aware that you could do that.

You guys do realize you're responding to posts that are over a year old correct...

I got the Base and added gorgeous Katzkin perforated leather seats afterward---saved a fortune by avoiding the Touring Package..
