370Z's AT vs DCTs

How good do you think is the 370Z's Automatic Transmission when compared to all DCTs now out there in the market ??

I agree to that the DCT is more developed than ATs or MTs, but then as a sports car 370Z's JATCO 7AT is so insufficient now ??

:yum:

DCT's are still software and engineering limited in my opinion.

Ford has a terrible name with DCT in Australia (OEM is Getrag out of Xinghua) with two class actions underway.

Premium DCT made in Europe might be OK, but entry level DCT in Focus and Kuga is a PoS.

For mine, the 7AT is OK, but then I have a sequential shift 69G ready to go into my car so I am a whole different bag of beans.

I have a 7at G37s. I have a VW TDI with DSG. I've ridden in BMW DCT M5 and M3.

IMHO, our 7at is feels ancient, same for the slush box in the previous gen CTS-V. Up shift is decent when being pushed in mid range, but downshift is too slow, and shifting response in general is much slower overall. Under normal driving, it's too laggy and too much hesitation compared to the current offerings. I test drove a 2013 7at 370z and it was a hair bit better, but still no bueno for me. No offense to 7at guys out there, I just feel our 7at shift response is a sour spot compared to DSG and DCT's instantaneous and seemless shifts.

:iagree:

I doubt that any slush boxes come anywhere close to the DCT or PDK in term of performance.

But our Auto less problems,DCT may be more problematic...anyway our 7sp Auto, torque convertor already got "Locked-up" @ low rpm...so quite good in power transmission.

Jag F-Type and C7 vette come close. Even the new Camaro in performance shift mode bangs the gears pretty hard for an AT.

The Zs AT was great for its time, but like the rest of car, has remained unchanged for the last 7yrs so if course it feels laggy compared to current offerings.

Uprev makes the 7at feel likena whole different animal... kils 99 percent of the shift lag

Agreed,Uprev increased the pressure....more solid upshift[but also more shock]....

Look at it this way. A well executed DCT is going to out perform a well executed TC transmission 100% of the time due to the differences in design.

However, a poorly executed DCT will potentially be out performed by a TC. That's just the nature with anything in life though, good execution trumps bad.
