Well I hit a very big truck tire on the road

I was on the tpk this mornong coming from work and bang!! A dam truck tire in the middle of the lane I was in and it was very dark.I my nismo sustaned plenty of damamges for it, the whole bumper and splitter are toast, the tire made its way under the car breaking some plastic stuff under there and then broke the rear bumper out as well. Very ungle and I had to hold back tears, I actualy felt the need to break down, I love my car soo much and hate to see her like that. Now the stress of finding a high quality shop to repair it will be a challenge ,I want nothing less that perfect, no crooked patrs, paint must shine like a mirror, everything oem patrs, and there are alot of them,M y next mod Went I get her back will be some bright *** light so next time I can see that and have the time to avoid it.Attachment 114844

WOW! I feel your pain, and up coming frustration getting her back to pristeen condition.
It was on Thursday That I made the decision not to drive my car to work any longer. I've had to dodge debris on the freeway, gravel trains on the side roads,
And deer on the back roads, and I'VE JUST HAD IT!
So yesterday I'm on my way in ( in my 06 Maxima ) and a rock bounces off a
F*cking gravel train ( on the freeway ) it bounces off my roof 1/8 in. Above the windshield. If I was in the Z I would not have been able to control my anger!

I hope you're totally satifyed with the fix, cause that can be as frustrating as the accident !

Hate to hear it man, same thing happen to me in my Acura CL 3.0 in 2009. I knew a cool cat who worked at the Acura dealer at the time and he had the body shop pull it out (just my front bumper was damaged) for me. When i hit that gator skin at night too(that's what we call it here in Texas) I was so mad, she's my daily driver still though. Matt (service tech) told me something that day though that stuck with me, you walked away with your life. Infrastructure is something that we have to worry about which is sad (politicians are celebrities not policy makers for the voters, but for lobbyist groups only), that includes debris clean up which is not done nearly enough on our highways in the U.S, tired of all the debris i have to avoid when driving Vanity (my 370z that's not my DD) too. I hope everything goes smooth with the repairs Louie cat, keep ya head up.

Damn, so sorry to hear that. I feel your pain (hit and run victim here). But it could have been worse. Just imagine if that object on the road was some kind of metal debris or a stalled vehicle. Im glad the damage only cosmetic and nothing too serious. Maybe time for a aftermarket bumpers? (2015 nismo conversion or Amuse?)

GL with repairs!

I had a rock bounce off the ground and hit my windshield and roof. It left a nasty dent and broke the windshield. I cussed a lot of bad words.

My fronts been destroyed by rock chips lol oh well

MagmaRed370z 06-11-2016 12:39 PM

That sucks, I assume that there were cars on the other lanes so that you couldn't avoid the big tire on the middle of the lane. Sucks big time. Good luck with the repairs.

Outlawing of retreaded tires would go a long way towards removing tire debris.

TriNismo 06-11-2016 02:32 PM

Just awful. Sorry this happened. Hopefully it's just bumpers replacements and not much else

I notice that you live in Florida, which is most definitely "car country". If you live in any of the large cities, there are going to be a number of fantastic body shops to choose from. Like applying paint to a building, the result is going to depend upon careful preparation, so take your time in selecting a place to work on your vehicle.

You might want to start a thread in the following forum
Detailing / Washing / Waxing / Cosmetic Maintenance and Repair - Nissan 370Z Forum
entitled something like "Best body shop for Z in Orlando" (or Miami, etc.) and repeat what you've said here.

If the hit was substantial, I'd first take the vehicle to a place that can determine if the chassis is still in its original "geometry" -- that all of the suspension-attachment points are still "where they're supposed to be" and the wheels on the vehicle can still be aligned perfectly. The shop that you choose to do the body work should be able to do this, but maybe not, so ask. If the chassis is not in spec., how to proceed will depend upon how much it is out of spec. and whether and how well it can be pulled back into spec.

If the chassis is still in spec. or can easily be made so, if I were in your shoes, I'd go to or phone several custom car shops, tell them what happened, and get their recommendation for a shop that's going to do an excellent "standard" job on a Z's body. Any name that pops up several times during these phone calls is the place I'd take a vehicle for a quote. But before asking for a quote, again, I'd first ask if they are competent to determine if the chassis is in spec. and, second, if the place has worked on 370Zs before. IMO, having done body work on a Z previously is a big plus for a shop. If the shop has open bay doors, or has a work area that is unenclosed, as many shops in Florida do, take a look and see if there are any Zs already being worked on.

Good luck.

Na ,I like to keep it original.

No damage at all to the suspension,it still drives perfect. It tore up the bumper pretty bad and all the guts are gone. I ran right over the top of it and it popped out the rear bumper as well.
I actually found a place that does custom work and has many good reviews ,lucky for me my insurance allows me to take it to a place of my choosing.

jchammond 06-12-2016 12:34 PM

Ouch;
Don't be surprised if your insurance co. files this for a collision;because you collided with a tire....I recently was hit (in my daughter's fusion) with a claw hammer that got flipped up from a pick-up in the left lane.
estimated 980$ damage & after the 500$ deductable-480$ check (collision,but won't show on driver's record)

said it once said it twice take it to lexus dealership. they do certified work that has to meet certain standards. it will look new again if you have them do the work.
