Some unlucky guy got pulled over cuz of me, I think.

This is purely speculation, so you guys be the judge.

I pull out from a shopping center, following the regular flow of traffic, and pass by a cop on my left lane, which was at a stand-still. Still following the flow of traffic, which is going no faster than the speed limit, I observe the cop from my rear view and notice he makes a U, and now driving the opposite direction.

This is a pretty busy street at the time so I'm still driving at speed limit along with everyone else, although I didn't have any intention to be speeding through anyone anyway. After several blocks I reach a point where I'm about to make a left into my main neighborhood, and just waiting on the light. The car to my left is a Ford fusion, and then I noticed... a cop behind him.

This struck me as odd since cops don't normally patrol my neighborhood. So I'm thinking, is this the same cop? Did he really come back and try to get in my blind spot? Or another cop also needing to make a U.

So light turns and I'm in a long stretch of road toward my neighborhood and the cop is maintaining his distance on the left lane. Ok, limit here is 40, so I'll hover around 40-42.

Now, the Fusion on the left is starting to speed up. Not sure if his intention was to pass me to get into my lane, or he just decided he needed to get home quicker, but he certainly didn't notice the cop behind him. I'm thinking, "no dude!", and then he's probably up to the 50s and before he knew it, *whoop whoop*, and the cop has his way.

I later review my dash cam and sure enough, it was the same cop that I passed, and made the U earlier. If he was targeting me, it's unfortunate, especially for the Fusion guy. I'm driving a stock Nismo, so I guess all he could've gotten me on is not having a front license.

So if it was me, sorry Fusion guy. :bs:

If you're wondering whether he could've been targeting the Fusion guy in the first place... it's possible, but upon reviewing my driving footage, I saw the Fusion several cars behind the Cop, on the left lane. So the cop would've had to target the Fusion way, way earlier, among a pretty packed street, if that's the case. /shrug

Slartibartfas 05-31-2016 01:24 PM

You didn't force the Fusion driver to exceed the limit. If he wanted in your lane, he could have slowed to let you get ahead.

Oh I know. What I felt sucks, is that the cop wouldn't have even came into our neighborhood area if it weren't for him targeting me just cuz of what I drove (assuming this is the case). And if it was me, it was just a bad circumstance for for him.

Pearl zed 05-31-2016 09:51 PM

Are you a regular speeder? I sold my 240z a long time ago to a local kid who promptly got pulled over the next day for no other reason than because they thought it was me.

JC-Nismo 06-01-2016 12:31 AM

Don't see how any of this is your doing............

Guess it depends on what is considered a regular speeder. I follow the flow of traffic the majority of time, and most often than not, people are going 5-10 miles above the limit. If there is a clear stretch of road, far from traffic signals, I'll practice a little launching and shifting, but not something I would consider reckless, imo.

I did learn recently there was some illegally staged racing near my vacinity, so perhaps they are on high alert. I think I'm the only 2016 white nismo around my area, so if they ever wanted to tag me, I guess I wouldn't be hard to spot.

Not directly. The road the Fusion guy got pulled over is known for everyone to hit 50mph easily with no issues. It's just that if this cop decided to follow me, just because, then I would be the reason he turned into this street (as it's normally not a patrol route), and he had to make an example of someone. Just an unfortunate circumstance.

Where in Sac do you live?

I do! It's all your fault ZHighlander! I can't believe you'd do that...

Nah, someone else getting pulled over is never your fault. I remember the first summer I had my car; I was going down a highway at 5 over, typical for Utah, but I had someone in a brand new Charger come flying to get beside me, stay at my door for a bit, rev his engine a few times because he wanted to race, and then take off when I didn't take the bait. Now this was right before a long sweeper right, where a cop is usually sitting, and just after he takes off I see the light bar lights and start laughing.

The Elk Grove area where new homes are being developed. Home to the infamous EG Police.

Oh dang... time to setup a new, undocumented, race event in EG. Who wants to be on the news!?

I saw that on the news.

Jsolo 06-01-2016 04:24 PM

Last time I passed a cop was in our Accord, doing 74/75 in a 70. Didn't think twice about it. If I were in a vette or 370z or other sports car, I might have thought twice about it.

Thanks to that event, it seems EG police are being more of a pain than before. If you drove your Z back to Sac, careful driving around EG area.

The police in our area are a bit more notorious for being jerks, as this post serves as evidence. I'm sure the Fusion guy didn't think twice either, since it was relatively "normal" driving on that street to hit 50.

Jsolo 06-01-2016 04:33 PM

10 over/50 might be pushing it in a 40 zone. Generally I'll try to keep it at no more than 7 over on surface streets. On the interstate though (this was in WI), 5 over isn't that big of a deal I think.

Here in chicago, I294, i88, unless you're doing 20-30 over cars will run you off the road (55mph limit).

solidus 06-01-2016 04:46 PM

In Florida , maximum penalty for up to 6mph over the posted limit is a verbal warning. My threshold for enforcement is location specific. On surface streets I generally give 10mph over posted ,on a closed access multi lane I give 15 over before my interest is even piqued. OP you may have someone in your community calling in complaints of speeding. Especially in a case where they are'nt normally there. I absolutely hate having to sit in one spot that "Joe Neighborly" called his city commisioner and said people are going to fast. Then you get there and people are going 5 over or 3 over the limit. And in general ( There's always the 10%) cops don't care what you drive unless you're hanging out with true rice bouncing off the limiter and attempting to drift through downtown.

It's just the cops in our neighborhood that are notorious for pulling someone over for the most minor things, if you happen to catch them in a bad mood. I need to look for a Tow license plate holder just to be safe.

Thanks for your perspective. I think one of my concerns is that some may consider the 2015/16 Nismo a bit "riced" up. I've bumped into quite a few people who gave compliments, and several have modded cars, and they still said things like, "Great work!", or "Nice Mods!", and "What car is that?". So it's quite evident that a limited number of people here are aware this is what a stock Nismo looks like.

So if that's any indication, I'm curious if officers here might get the idea mine was specifically "modded" for street competition.

Soooo I guess they'll just have to fire up the "Shocked" face  when they stumble on me in a boosted 15' Nismo all riced out and such.:rofl2:

dere was a faktard dumbarse in a benz sitting at a light next to me one time while i was in my z.. he had a village cop right behind him but he didnt notice and when the light turn green he floored is AMG like a mofo running to the bathroom post tacohell.

i bet he was going like 60+ in a 30mph residential area. lol he was immediately pulled over.

survival of the fittest.

JARblue 06-03-2016 01:27 PM

Don't apologize for that idiot who isn't paying attention :shakes head: How hard is it to look in your mirrors once in while?

Just two days ago, I passed a 2 cop convoy on the road and a speed trap cop further down the road. I had cruise control set at 90 mph in an 85 mph speed limit and a clear left lane to pass. I've been pulled over before doing 80 in a 75 and driving in the left lane not passing - he gave me a warning when I explained I was only in the left lane because the condition of the right lane was so poor I did not want to drive on it.

I did this once in the Z except the cop was two cars behind me and I saw him - I was just trying to make the green left arrow at the next light. I redlined 1st and 2nd gear and then shifted to 6th gear at 62 mph (60 mph speed limit). He pulled me over saying he paced me at 78 mph  I asked him politely to review his video that begins recording when he set his pace. He came back, rolled his eyes at me, and gave me a warning :icon17:

Nope, but there are several with 80 mph portions. The 85 mph speed limit is on TX 130, which is a toll road.

I need that speed limit on my commute back and forth to work. I would prefer the autobahn....LOL My 52 mile commute wouldn't take long at all.
