25R oil cooler for my Z
 

hey guys, I had a question regarding oil coolers. I'm planning on buying the Z1 25Row oil cooler w/ thermostatic sandwich plate and was wondering if there are any performance perks to it?
I live in southern california and usually under aggressive driving/multiple pulls, I'll see my oil get up to around 230-235F.. with that being said, if the oil cooler kept me in the 190-220 range, wouldn't that result in less heatsoak AKA better throttle response?
I notice when my oil gets really hot my acceleration is a lot slower.
I am ecutek tuned w/ radiator fan settings adjusted if that helps any.

You know I'm not 100% on all the specifics or anything. I live in SoCal also and well the weather here isn't too hot. I'd go with maybe just one level smaller? That might be TOO cold during winter :/ in MY opinion. I'd suggest a medium oil cooler and a medium or small tranny cooler. Don't take my word for it but that's my speculation. What you will actually notice is that the ECU will no longer pull timing when you get to higher temps, since its staying cool. The ECU starts to pull timing around 220-230 degrees, and it is a noticeable difference in power. Once you get your oil temps under control, you will notice better power.

However, I just noticed you said you were tuned on EcuTek, which iirc, has its own timing logic that will hold the set timing regardless of oil temperature. But i'm not toally positive that I remember that.

I wouldn't go any smaller then a 25 row cooler. In fact, I would go with a 34 row. You are getting thermostatic sandwich plate. So that takes care of the cold temps. Higher oil temps, the more timing it pulls. But with being tune. I don't know if it still does it or not.

From what I remember, UpRev will still pull timing since it's just modifying the factory timing. EcuTek has their own timing logic, but I can't remember if it still pulls timing when oil temps rise.

I'm UpRev tuned, so I know that it does it. I don't know the in's and out's of the
EcuTek tuning.

I just had Seb EcuTek tune my ride as well.
The throttle response is instant...like my sport bike instant.

I may him Seb dial it back just a hair, the throttle is just sooooo sensitive now to inputs.

I'm running a GTM 25 row oc and, although I haven't run in the Summer yet, when I had the UpRev tune last Summer, I didn't see any decline in acceleration.

Yeah my throttle response is super sensitive too , @ first it was bugging me but ive grown used to it.

Update: I'm purchasing a 34 Row Z1 kit with sandwich plate, we usually don't see anything past 95-100 F here in socal but I assume it will help a lot.

That will do you very well. Its basically the same setup I have but I am using a Tru-Cool core. I rarely see anything past 180 cruising around in 85+ degrees, and never over 230 degrees unless im basically doing a track day.

Did you feel like your throttle response was the same as when you first warm up and drive your car? Even when it's hot out where the car would typically start getting sluggish?
And are you FI?

That's the same kit as I got. :tup:

Its fine until I get up in the 230+ range. But under that, the throttle response is the same. The main difference is the lack of power at that point, not the lack of response.

do these tunes affect smog checks down the road(CA)

Haven't and don't expect them to.
