Premium vs regular costs in your area

Here in SE Michigan it's generally .80 cents a gal.
I kinda think it's a rip off.

brancky3 04-24-2016 04:38 PM

I used to live in SE Michigan and never saw it that big of a difference, that's nuts. Here it was $1.81 / $2.01 a gallon for 87 / 93 yesterday.

kenchan 04-24-2016 04:39 PM

i dont remember wat the regular's price was but 93 octane in my area varies from 2.89 to 3.19... i think. i dont really check the price as its not like i have a choice not to fuel. lol

Yeah, 5/6 yrs. ago it was only .20 cents , then bam! .80 cents
I'll always use prem. But l know when l'm being ripped off.
Yesterday $2.19 reg. $2.99 prem.

Generally, there's a ten-cent spread from 87 to 89, and the same from 89 to 93.

BoneZ 04-24-2016 05:54 PM

Mine right now is 1.99 / 2.19 / 2.39 (87/89/93)

While the gas prices were so high, the price difference was generally 30 cents between regular and premium at the most reasonably priced stations around here. As soon as the gas prices dropped, the spread increased to 40 cents at roughly the same time at those stations.

I typically see Premium (93 oct) gas priced $0.30-$0.60 above Regular (87 oct). That is for name brand gas stations in town. On the road, especially in the boonies, I see all sorts of crazy pricing for Premium.

It depends on the brand. Shell-BP stations have a 75c spread. The rest are at 30-50c spread. I avoid Shell and BP stations.

mishuko 04-25-2016 10:07 AM

you guys complain too much.

91 octane here is ~1.20 / L (in Canadian) and 87 ~ 1/L or about 3.60/gal(USD) v 3/gal for you guys.

at one point I was over 1.50/L... do I care about gas price? don't buy a sports car if you need to penny pinch gas. go get a prius.

scottIN 04-25-2016 11:05 AM

It use to be base, then +10 cents each grade up. I've noticed the spread going up a lot now as well. Think it's about 40 cents here.

DEpointfive0 04-25-2016 02:35 PM

In CA, average .20-24 per gallon from 87 to 91. Yes, 91 is the best we have...

Jatmallet 04-25-2016 03:04 PM

In Atlanta it's anywhere from .40 to .80 difference. It really depends on what part of town you are in. In the city it's always .70 to .80, in the burbs it runs the gambit.

barncobob 04-25-2016 04:07 PM

in CA all we get is 91...as a kid back east we could go to Sunoco and dial in whatever octane we wanted, think it went up to 100, do they still have Sunoco gas back east?

Spstone 04-25-2016 04:38 PM

I wonder how much tax the EPA puts on the higher octane stuff.
