people must be broke or not in love with the new 370Z?
its good to see that not everyone is jumping over to the dealers
to get the new Z as soon as it came out (no offense educ8r :icon17:) finally the dealers will understand that putting a mark up will not work this time around. |
buyers market. The whole EPA bogus markup will not hold water in my area!!
|
Its purely the economy. A 2 seater sports car isn't a priority for people losing their jobs and 401Ks. I remember perusing the corvette forums when the Z06 was just released at a time when the economy was doing very well and dealers were marking it up $10K-20K with ample buyers.

None taken...I wanted...They had...I bought. My job is pretty much recession proof.

Winter in the northern climates is not exactly a prime sales time for RWD 2 seat sportscars either.

The sales slump continues to mean good deals for consumers. Aaron Bragman, automotive marketing research analyst for IHS Global Insight in Troy, Mich., said large incentives such as zero-percent financing and rebates will continue well into 2009 as automakers try everything they can to boost sales
Toyota said it sold 141,949 vehicles in December, down from 224,399 a year earlier. Sales of the Prius hybrid dropped 45 percent as gas prices fell from their record highs in July. Honda sold 86,085 vehicles last month, down from 131,792 a year earlier but up from 76,233 in November. Nissan. The month-over-month improvement was a trend seen by most automakers. Nissan sold 62,102 vehicles — including Infiniti models — in the U.S. compared with 89,555 in December 2007. For 2008, Nissan U.S. sales dropped 11 percent. I know for me, a lot of the dealers aren't bothering to get a few 370z's unless they absolutely need to.
Kind of hard to sell cars when you don't have at least one car on the lot to test drive. |
Check out the abundance of 2008 350's & Nismo's that have gone unsold.

Tell them to :gtfo2: |
Reminds me of My local dealer. They've had two GTR's in the showroom for over 3 months now. No buyers. I think It might have something to do with the $20,000 "Market adjustment"
|
Wouldn't a "market adjustment" in this economy be a negative number?

Dad called the dealership and was told there is roughly a 3 month wait with $1k deposit to stand in line. There's no mark up either. Do you guys think I should drop in $1k to stand in line now? I'm going to put my Z33 up for sale sometime this week.
|
how long is the "line"?
|
they're all sitting on my local dealerships lots... I'd shop around and find one that suits your fancy instead of dropping a grand on a TBD unit.
|
From what my dad got from talking to them, 18 have "built to order" with the $1k deposit. The customer gets contacted when the car arrives, and the $1k is lost if the customer backs out on the deal. I'm not in a big rush to get the Z34, so I'll order it once I sell my Z33. There is a couple arriving next week (seen from Inventory Search), and those are for customer pick up.
|
A bit OT, but isn't the "built for the human race" line from about 10 years ago??
**EDIT** a quick Google search found it was from 1987! LOL http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...53C1A961948260 |
Local Nissan dealer here has one. I showed up in my Z1 shirt with a technician and they didn't let me test drive it. They were also asking 4k over msrp. Told them we were very interested and Nissan let us drive the cars a while back. Sales lady wasn't very on point about the car. We had to tell her about the difference between the 370Z and the 350Z. There was also a guy there that came to the follow the Z tour at Z1. He was offering her $500 below MSRP cash money and she said they had to think about it.

wow for 48k+ it better be a 560z with the nice big V8 from the Titan or RWD GTR drivetrain.
|
 I agree...
I don't know if I'm the only one in the world that seems to think this (after watchin the news I'm beginning to think so), but in my opinion this is why Toyota is in such trouble...You can't charge 20k for a halfway optioned new Corolla if you want to sell cars to the masses and then find yourself curious on why your sales have dropped...Same with the Chevy Cobalt, went their to look for one for my fiance weeks ago...stripped down and nothing but power windows practically was around 19k. I don't know if I should feel laughter or sad struck to think that such management at these dealerships are equipped with such a lack of common sense and knowledge when it comes to selling these cars in a time like this. |
^
What's I find funny about your comment is that when the cobalt came out, it was advertised as the replacement for the cavalier, but its base price is like, 5K higher. How the eff is that a replacement? lol |
if i owned a dealer...i would try anything to sell sell sell...
rather sell than keep cars in stock. |
