Not too shabby. Won't have too many jockeying for position at next light I imagine. And that to me, I see an opening in this circus of zombies, man I got that chit, I don't care who's next to me, cuz 9/10 they don't even know what they can do. I LOVE 0 to 60. Everyone knows, everyday, they see 200 yards ahead, some car makes a move to "first place" then to dog at green and have yet another bottleneck cuz they don't understand flow. When I'm in front, on my roads...geezuz, 90% of the time,99, just a huge cluster behind me. 2 cars, 2 lanes...doing 3 mph under. Move!!! So yea 0 to 60 in the limited right environment-huge. Cuz even when a Caravan "nails" it off the line we are static at 40. Go!!! You assshat!!

The track measures when the car moves,,,lol- listen to the video I posted & you can here the gas pedal smack the plate a bit before the rpm gauge even moves....that will change in the upcoming weeks.(you can here it go "tink",delay & takes off...also; these cars are heavier than people think...mine weighs 3340 full of fuel & 3640 w/ me & my helmet.
@ just over 6'5" & 285lbs, perfect fit in the ~Z~ don't think I would have the legroom with a clutch pedal though.
Loving my 7sp. Auto.

I'm curious.... what age group do you guys call kids? I'm guessing that 90% of the members on this forum are Millenials, which is not a bad thing 😄, my son is one. I'm a little older. (Ah, to be 50 again....lol)

Today's midsize sedans are faster than 70s & 80s sports cars
Cars back in the 80's (I can't speak for the ones in the 70's because I was too young to drive then) weren't really fast compared to almost anything today. The Z28's, Mustangs, (Ok the 80's Mustangs were a joke) Trans AM even TA Turbo (all stock) were all pretty slow and heavy as the Titanic. Handling isn't even close either.

I don't think that any of those cars from back in the day (stock) couldn't outrun the Z of today.

I think 40-80 is more important than 0-60 when it comes to normal driving. It shows more about how the car pulls through the middle of the gears rather than what it can do as you bounce the rev limiter. That being said I drive more speritedly than most. It spends a lot of time north of 4K and more time than it probably should on the bottle.

I guess what I'm saying is different statistics are important to people for different reasons because we all use our cars in different ways.

Anyone who is more immature than I am. That eliminates >80% of everyone old enough to have a driver's license.

actually most people on this forum are older well whats left of the ownership from when the car was worth something.

now it is becoming littered with some teen idiot types who's parents got them a sports car etc...... just look for stanced car threads or just retarded mod ideas. dead giveaway.

I don't think most Z owners are married.

Without back seats, having children just means that it's time to sell out Z unless the owner is pretty rich to afford Z as his second car.

Therefore, I guess many nembers here might be pretty young.

I'm married with two littles. I traded in an 04 STI that I bought brand new for the Z. The deal was I had to get the wife an suv too.

night blade 04-07-2016 08:13 AM

Married with 3 kids, hence the bus, Z is for the Wife & I.

Not really. You don't have to be rich to have a second car. And more older people buy sports cars new than young people. It's the second owners that are younger.

What about empty-nesters? My guess: the distribution would look (vaguely) like an "upside down bell curve" - most owners/members at the low and high ends with a big dip in the middle.

yea... the previous owner was married. had a kid or two and another on the way or something like that. something about needing a 'family car'

I sort of agree that 2nd hand owners are generally younger. bit of a assumption though...

Don't get me wrong, I drive my Z hard and often. I just choose not to launch it at maximum potential from a stop. Mainly I don't drop the clutch from 3 krpm because there is no point on the street and when I track I am not 1/4 mile racing. Also, launching from a dead stop is many times harder on the car's mechanical components than just driving hard and I want to beat on my Z for many more years to come.

Amen to that!
Even my stock Z goes through rear tires every 15-20k miles...and I'm almost "50"
The old girl can pedal down the track in the high 4's on a hot summer night & manage to run a 13.1 second quarter @105 mph w/300 lb. man in it (includes clothes & helmet)
And on a longer track; will go 0-156 in less than 35seconds...(that's the governed speed @ almost 7k in 5th gear (1:1)...so, don't know if they scared or just ease around and look pretty....Oh; and I can consistently log 27+ mpg with it/ worst tank 24mpg.
Milage at the track doesn't count.
Now/ with a few mods being installed,,,we'll have to go out & redo some numbers!
Have a nice weekend folks!

Jsolo 04-08-2016 12:16 AM

Anyone here ride bikes? 0-60 numbers are useless. They're mostly near 3sec for sport/sport touring type bikes. Quarter mile times tell more of the story. Some of these newer bikes will do 10sec (ktm superduke 1290 comes to mind or s1000rr).

This is insane!

How come the good threads always pay tribute to JungleZ? Damn that guy.

Is this true ? : Zero-to-sixty actually doesn't matter so much ?
Heck no, it's not true. WHat do you do all day when driving - accelerate. Usually from a stop.

Heck the author completely neglects quarter mile times (suggests right up front that all anyone cares about is top speed and 0-60). BS. The same 0-60 ability is largely similar to the acceleration you'll get from a roll (sans traction issues off the line), which is also largely similar to the quarter mile times/traps you'll get. It's rare to find a car that does super-fast in either 0-60 or quarter mile that isn't also good in the other.

Although he does make an interesting point with the 918 being slower from 5-60 than from 0-60. But comments below the article make clear why; the car is stuck in the lower-end of the RPM range in a 5-60 contest.

kenchan 04-08-2016 09:48 AM

i like seeing 60-0 numbers too.. just as important.

But the fact (in that article) that the five-to-sixty took longer than its zero-to-sixty is pretty interesting to me.

Someone in the comments made clear why that is - in 5-60 the car is stuck in the low RPM area where it produces less power. On a 0-60 the car is launched already at higher RPM/power range.
