Slashed tires... Advice

Ok so last night my family and I went over to my aunts to play cards. We left around 7 and got home at 12. Today I went to take my daily to work and went to reverse out of the driveway and I take my foot off the clutch and the car felt like the e brake was still somewhat on because it would start rolling but stop immediately. Anyways I took the car out of the driveway to see if something was stuck and my tire pressure light came on and I figured out what had happened unfortunately. Pulled the car back in and noticed that both my rear tires were flat. Intial thought was that I had friends deflate the tires because they knew I wasn't home. Long story short I used my air compressor to put air in the tires to find the leak and both tires had a single stab through the sidewall go figure. I own my Z and my daily is a 15 Dodge Dart. I always park my Z closest to the garage and my dart behind it because the Z is now non oped. In the driveway last night was my Z and dart behind it... My brothers highly modified civic to the right of my Z and my other brothers Saturn behind that... My dads truck to the right of the civic and my grandmas Kia behind the truck. My dart was the only vehicle damaged which is really surprising because whoever did it knows I have my Z. I will be moving my Z to a friends house in another city because I don't plan on driving it till next year and would rather not have someone destroy it. So my question for you guys is... What would you do? I'm almost 100% I know who did it. What can I do to protect my cars? Proximity sensors, dash cams, etc. this is a rather rushed and not a well put together thread because frankly I'm pretty pissed and I'm not going to keep buying new tires for my car and or possible more damage than tires. Help!

Small slash by my finger. I couldn't even see it until I put my hand over it and felt the air coming out

Zbrah 02-29-2016 01:43 AM

First thing I would do is mount some security cam pointing to where you park then Finds the dude's car and return the favor.

RonRizz 02-29-2016 05:01 AM

1. Call police. (probably won't be much help, unless a neighbor saw something)
2. Calm down and rationally think about who you know might do this to you. inform Police.
3. Buy new tires.
4. Look into homeowners insurance covering tires??????? just a shot in the dark there.
Revenge is fun to talk about, but guess who ends up getting caught and locked up?
additional info;
start a gofundme
stop getting caught with aces in your boots, you know how mean your aunt can get

Crazy ex girlfriend?

MagmaRed370z 02-29-2016 07:06 AM

Im sorry. that really sucks. Your best bet is to put a security camera with recording and live feed to scare potential future damage.

In the meantime, there are a bunch of people here that are switching tires due to upcoming nice weather season, so you are in good luck if you want to grab a set for cheaper.

dP3NGU1N 02-29-2016 08:03 AM

If you have someone in mind who might do this to you I would suggest working out whatever issues you have with them first. I wouldn't recommend accusation or aggressive confrontation. Your goal should be to alleviate current tensions and avoid further conflict with this person that may cause them to lash out and do this again.

Yes it's ****** up. No it's not fair. But you can either work to make it better or spend time and energy making it worse and see how it escalates from there.

mishuko 02-29-2016 08:13 AM

my suggestion is getting a home monitor CCTV system. set it up at the front of your house angled towards your cars but enough of a window so you can see approaching people/vehicles.

also report it to the police as a FYI. say you don't expect them to be able to find the culprit but just wanted to report a case of vandalism.

it's odd that it was only one car though... I would be really concerned if they slashed all your cars/family's tires.

axmea? 02-29-2016 11:30 AM

All the above and if you don't have one yet, but a gun.

yah, sorry to hear op. as others have noted, i would get a police report for dat and file insurance to get your new tires if deductible is low.

GL with the tire swap and get an ip camera with night vision installed. u can have it setup with motion sensor so dat when something moves within the frame, it sends u an email from the camera.

btw i got kinda lost in the car orientation explanation on ur driveway. :icon17:

6mt370 02-29-2016 11:42 AM

Thanks for the responses. I never said I would get revenge. If that were the case it would just be back and forth and never end. Any recommendations for a home surveillance system with a couple cameras? The way my driveway is setup I would be able to monitor all the cars and who is entering. The tires are about $85 each but who wants to spend money on something like that?

God-Speed 02-29-2016 12:16 PM

No Revenge needed, "What goes around, Comes around!!" They will get theirs in due time!!!

solidus 02-29-2016 01:25 PM

As stated numerous times, get a police report. Patrol guys are'nt going to want to take a report for slashed tires but "If" they show up at all demand a report. If your locals have online reporting then do that. This way when you install a camera system and catch someone near your car that you can I.D. positively there's incentive for a followup report that nets an arrest stat. BTW: The larger the area you live the less likely someone comes out unless you can tack this into an aggravated stalking.

Nixin 02-29-2016 01:31 PM

Yes get a police report. It will legitimize your claim if you are going to contact insurance for assistance. Good luck.

OP, once I got my Z the first thing I modded was my house, added a set of 4 cameras 2 of which are pointing at the driveway..

Best bang for the buck I found was an "Amcrest 4 channel 720P system" on amazon, costs maybe $320 at the time and gives amazing video well over 40+ feet

Awesome! Thanks everyone. Please continue with the ideas. There will be no revenge taken just to clear everything up. I just don't want this to become a daily thing where tires are slashed on several repeat occasions :/

mishuko 02-29-2016 03:15 PM

first thing's first, I'd make sure you contact the police about the vandalism. they MAY send a patrol out and that might be enough to scare the crap out of the culprit to avoid anything happening for a little while until you get the cctv up...

sorry can't help you on that in terms of products... is there any private parking facilities that you can get for a short term (like an underground garage?) while you wait?

Happened to a buddy of mine ~30 years ago. They ended up together shortly afterward and are happily married today. Not the recommended route to marital bliss though.

I would strongly advise against this approach in this situation.

Years and years ago, an acquaintance of mine slashed my valve stems on a couple of occasions because I was dating his ex-gf. I guess he wasn't strong enough to slash the tires themselves or was trying to be more surreptitious. I knew it was him "through the grapevine" but never saw him near my car. A couple of nights I parked in a well-lit area and had a rifle ready. Looking in the rear-view mirror, his not showing up on those nights was a blessing for both of us. Without even considering his fate, I am sure that my life would have been changed for the worse. I guess he got over his ex- as my valve stems quit being slashed.

One more piece of advice, forget the CCTV cameras, you won't be able to get a good enough resolution on the face. Go with high definition right off so you don't waist your money on the low res stuff.

Something like this...
Lorex 4-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor High-Definition NVR Security System Black LNR1141TC4 - Best Buy

Or even better... 4MP system but they get pricey.

Agree....go with 1080P and NVR.

In that case he would be looking at a COMPREHENSIVE Coverage claim through his Auto insurance. You would pay the deductible and the insurance pays the rest, but depending on what tires you are looking at and what your deductible on the Z is, it may be cheaper to just buy the new tires and install a dash cam.

I'm married to a redhead. 'nuff said.

OP, good luck and agree with what everyone has said about setting up cameras to get proof of who may be slashing your tires.

6mt370 02-29-2016 10:04 PM

It didn't happen to the Z, it happened to my other car. The Z was in front of that car though which is right next to some motion sensor lights. My guess is that they maybe tried to get the Z and then the lights came on and they ran and came back and got my other car? Who knows. Tires for my Dart are $80 a pop because they are only a 225/45/17 but it's just the fact that it is a brand new car and I'm already paying out of pocket for something that I shouldn't be. The Z will be moved to a friends house on Friday for quite some time. It's just not worth it to me for something to happen to my pride and joy. If that knife would have hit the Z's $1000+ set of tires and paint then we would have had a serious problem. Anyways, I'll look into those high def night cameras. Can't really afford it at this time but maybe in a few weeks I'll get something set up. Very annoying that people have to hate and do something like that.

370zHawaii 02-29-2016 10:25 PM

Everyone said it all, honestly the person that did this is an f-n a-hole. Not to mention the maturity level. That being said you can lay a booby trap, giant sized rat traps or some electrical high voltage wire that is camouflaged around your car. I know it sounds stupid and hypocritical but it would be fun to watch the vandal get shocked on your new high def night cam, then upload to YouTube and their FB and get a billion likes LoL.

Ok now for the serious part, if any harm comes to that person now they are going to look at you although you may be innocent, the best thing to do is to squash whatever nonsense it is and be civil about it. For someone to go to that extreme is really hateful. At the same time it could be anyone you randomly may have p-oed by acciden or just some dumb kids your never really know.. Anyway I am really sorry this happened and hope everything works out for you, in the mean time look for a cheap set of used tires unless your deductible is cheaper then get new.

I have a very good idea of who did it. When I told my friends everyone single one of them thought of that person first. It's an 18 yr guy that has it out for me because he flat out hates my Z because it's too "loud" and the fact that I happen to work in the building below his gf... Iv honestly never met this kid in my life but his gf used to tell me all the time how much he hates me and the Z... Go figure. Deductible is $500 so it wouldn't even be remotely worth it to file a claim. I'm going to be changing it to zero because the Z will be taken off insurance next week when it moves to my buddies house. Oh well. Like everyone said its really immature and I'll buy a quality security system soon just to protect my vehicles. I had my 2015 s1000rr outside too and decided to push it in the garage at the last minute and I'm really glad I did. Wouldn't have been fun to see a $20k+ bike on its side!

mishuko 03-01-2016 06:45 AM

keep fire/theft on the car at the very least...

as for your comprehensive going to 0... that will definitely make your premium go from decent to wtf train hit in the face omg bbq levels.

well maybe not definitely but will rise the premium. imho 200 bucks for the new set of tires will be cheaper in the long run.

also to the anecdote... if he hates the z so much why didn't he attack the Z? I think it was a random act of vandalism personally.

falconfixer 03-01-2016 08:10 AM

Btw, who curbed the **** out of those tires to begin with?

iidylii 03-18-2016 09:31 AM

Aren't there cameras you can mount inside of the car so no matter where your parked it will be watching? That's what I'm trying to look into

JC-Nismo 03-18-2016 01:40 PM

Yeah man get those cameras.........
But personally, if it were me I'd stomp his chest in, I guess even at my mature age I just don't let shiit ride and won't allow ANYONE to come to MY HOUSE and disrespect. We have gun laws here in GA and if you bold enough to come on my property will ill intentions, "then may you higher power be with you"

1st 03-19-2016 08:38 AM

Sorry to hear this but somebody might have done that tire a favor and took it out of its misery. That tire is chapped to hell! With all jokes aside my condolences.

iJDMTOY 04-08-2016 12:59 PM

Yes get the police involved and see if your insurance can help buy you new tires
