Recommendations for Upgrade Order
2 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone. Was thinking about the working upgrade list for my Z, and wanted the opinion of some experienced modders as to a good order in which I should approach these aftermarket parts. For example: I'd like a new head unit for the radio that includes a backup camera, but probably should not get this installed until the body kit is already on the car in order to avoid having to remount the camera in the rear. With that sort of forward thinking in mind as to part compatibility and interactivity, what order do you guys think I should get all this done. Also, keep in mind this is a list still in progress. So if you also know of something else that you think I should include, please let me know about that too. All that out of the way, here is my list:
• Head Unit (Carplay) with Nav, Bluetooth, back up camera • Amuse Body Kit w/ Spoiler o Rear Wing (APR GTC-300) - Maybe? • Custom Paint (Orange/Black) • Viper Security System • Vertical Door Kit • Racing Seats w/ 4 or 5 point harness • Rear View Mirror (CIPA 36400) • Supercharger Kit - Long term goal • ECU Tune • Carbon Ceramic Brake Pads • Intake/Exhaust upgrades - No specifics yet • Black out tail lights • Black painted headlights w/ body color highlights • Black "Z" emblems (front, rear, sides) • Carbon fiber: Hood (painted), door handles, B pillar covers, shifter plate cover, pedals The idea for the paint job (Pics are for red, but I was thinking Orange/Black): Attachment 111598 Attachment 111599 As always, thank you in advance for the advice and constructive criticisms. I greatly appreciate it. :worship: |

Recommendations for Upgrade Order
Aftermarket vertical doors automatically make the rest of the car ricey ********, no matter how nice the rest of the build.
Edit- never mind, this isn't the first thread where you talked about putting lambo doors on a helpless Z. You got all pissy when the rest of the world told you it's a stupid idea and we will all laugh at you. So, go on with your bad self. We need more comedy in here these days. |

Okay, fellas. Let's deal with this right now:
I have been made painfully aware that many other forum members don't like vertical doors. I don't know the reasoning behind this, and I don't care. Bottom line: It's my car, not yours. I would never tell you to install or not install a part on your car that you didn't want/like, and I expect the same respect for personal taste and choice to be honored by other forum members in return. If you don't like lambo style doors, that's fine; But don't ridicule me for my choice to include them. It's petty, juvenile, and flat out rude. That out of the way, lets all respectfully agree to disagree, and discontinue this particular argument. I look forward to continuing the intended sprite of this conversation. Thank you. |

welcome to the internet. just grab some lube and take it in stride. the rest of the list is legit but the lambo doors is going to get flamed. hell I deal with it daily from my closest friends that I picked the 7AT over the 6MT. no matter what technical or personal reasons it doesn't matter. you take it laugh about it and burn them back. |
Intake suggestion (if you don't mind removing the front bumper) get the Z1 intakes or Stillen G3s

you asked for input from experienced modders... the ones that advise against the butterfly doors are definitely experienced....
but don't go back around and say it's my car I do what I want cartman assitude. you wanted honest opinions and that is as brutally honest as it gets. this is the web of inters and people will be overly critical for better or worst. oh and ps pansy has no friends. :stirthepot: |
It sounds like your list is all over the place. Create a spreadsheet with the mods, cost, and installation. Figure out your budget for short, medium, and long term mods. Based on YOUR goals you should be able to figure out how to complete what you want at that point.
I bit my tongue (typing fingers) not saying anything about the vertical doors... Quote:

also breaking it down into categories like exterior, interior, performance, cosmetic, etc....
|
also with the break down you should make a note of alternatives incase the product doesn't exist anymore or maybe you might change your mind down the road.
you did mention the supercharge kit but with that said what type of power are you looking for? will the power drunk come in and you want more? the stillen kit does what it says it'll do but nothing more. if you want more gains tt kits out there can offer bigger snails or other options to increase power without blowing up |
Make sure you have proper mounts for any harness system.
If you know your going to supercharge don't bother with intake mods. They don't provide much improvement and will be removed later on. A license plate bracket camera won't effect your body kit choice so you can do the audio stuff when ever. But generally what FPenvy said, group stuff together and do a group at a time. |
The one piece of advice I can give is regarding the tune. If you are going to get one, make sure to do all of your N/A mods first (intake, headers, test pipes/HFCs, catback, etc.). No sense in paying the extra money re-tuning after every mod!

In addition to the lambo doors, invest in a horizontal hatch.

I had considered Lambo doors, until I saw a set on a Z... Then logic took over and said 'if you want Lambo doors, buy the appropriate car' :bowrofl:
Anyway... I suppose it really doesn't matter what order stuff gets done in, unless you are planning to add SC/TT. To me, it makes no sense to do intake (CAI) if you are going forced induction later. I'm doing the little stuff (under $1k) as I feel like it. My primary focus is TT, clutch upgrades and exhaust, all of which are going to be done at the same time. After that, well.... who knows. :) |

I wish all cars were Lambo doors as it would eliminate door dings. |
The checklist is a good idea, and sticking to an order that makes sense is good (i.e. waiting to get a tune after all mods and looking at price amd short vs long term). That being said, I would go for intake and exhaust first. They are the ones that are going to make you the most happy short term, and sort of quell that need to work on the car (at least for a little bit). As for the lambo doors, its your car do what makes you happy, and to give an unpopular opinion, as long as the rest of the car looks ok, I dont think they would look too bad.
