I hate to see these threads. My 350z got totaled 3 weeks after I paid it off by getting rear ended. It made me sick. Hopefully the insurance will take care of you.

Wow, not even broken in yet and with dealer tags. Scary part is that if it were me, one I'm a texan and 2, I have a CHL. I love my car but man that would make me crazy!

My new baby Z is not even 20 day's old and I got rear ended this morning :shakes head: I am ok just sore due to the hit but I am really mad and sad right now.
Do any off you have any guidance or inputs on diminished value claims? I know the car will get a hit on value and I don't want the insurance company to take take advantage of me.

Thank you all in advance!

Each company has a slightly different process, but it looks like you're in Georgia and the standard is the 17c formula. The amount of diminished value is going to depend on the actual extent of the damages. There is no way to know for sure until all the damage is uncovered and the vehicle has been repaired. Also, the quality of the repairs come into play here. You need to be very picky about who repairs your car. With a hit like that, you've got more than rear bumper damage. You've likely got some rear body panel damage and possible floor damage. No way to be certain until they take it all apart and expose it. Do some research and choose a shop that will do top quality work on both the repairs and the painting. I've spent years working in this industry – happy to help you in any way that I can.

Also, if you'll PM me and tell me what insurance companies are involved, I may be able to give you more insight. Chances are I've either worked for them or decided their cases in Arbitration.

I know it doesn't seem like it now, but the damage doesn't look that severe. My guess is a new rear fascia and probably a new crash beam underneath. Hard to say until the fascia is removed......

It doesn't appear to be any damage to the fenders, which would be more complicated to repair. Looks like the hatch is good too. I think it looks skewed due to the fascia being shifted.

Let's us know how the repairs go....hope to see you back on the forum soon!

Sorry to see the damage OP. Good thing is now you can upgrade your rear bumper to the NISMO bumper or any of your choosing.

You mentioned being sore (which is bound to happen when you're rear-ended). Make sure their insurance pays for any medical/chiropractor bills incurred.

On that note, I'd recommend going to a chiropractor. I got rear-ended 30 years ago and went. Within a few months, everything was back in place where it should be. My neck and back were messed up.

Sorry to see this though. It's bad enough when you've had one for a few years, but a few weeks is rough.

Sorry for you misfortune but Im glad you're okay. It could have been worse! I hope it doesn't diminish your car value. Judging by the photos, I don't think anything major is damaged. Hopefully it's just body panels.

GL with your repair and I hope your Z makes speedy recovery!

victort 01-26-2016 11:01 PM

damn that's horrible. it's big round butt turned into an ugly, flat butt

lwpnfrisco 01-26-2016 11:34 PM

SORRY! Glad you are ok!

axmea? 01-26-2016 11:42 PM

Sucks. Yours was worse than mine. Was rear ended too. Your bumper will require full replacement. Absolutley not fixable not to mention the metal pieces behind the shell. Find a body shop you like and trust.
