Possible Catalytic Converter failure

Need Help!!! Possible Catalytic Converter failure…

New to the Z world, so I have some basic questions…. I purchased this 2015 Z a few months ago and am currently only driving the car about once a week.

Here’s my problem, I notice that I am getting an odd smell from the car. Not sure if it’s unburnt fuel, or something melting. The smell seems to stay around the car for hours. The only thing that I can think of is the exhaust system. If the catalytic converter is faulty, I definitely want this covered under warranty. I am buying a quality brand Premium fuel and the car seems to run just fine. With only 2,000 miles on it I am certainly concerned about this.

Been thinking about taking it back to the Stealership so they can check it out with their diagnostic equipment that they use for these types of issues. The only reason I haven’t made an appointment with them yet, is that I am concerned that the symptoms won’t show up at the dealership and they will think I’m just a complainer.

So now it happened again last night, just like the week before. I noticed it when the wife and I returned from the weekly “All You Can Eat” Chili supper just down the road at a little local eatery. After the ride back, I almost had to leave the garage door up all night to clear the stench.

Any advice, before I take this to the next level?

Thanks,

The cats are warrantied for like 10 years by federal law. I doubt it's them. But if it is, I would take it to the dealer asap. What makes you think it's them?

Are you sure the smell is from the cats? Have you tried to identify the location of the smell under the car? Maybe you ran over something. Or maybe the smell is not from the car ... you did mention "all you can eat chili" :eekdance: :icon17:

get rid of the cats.

they're pointless and rob power. :tiphat:

if it's like a sulfur rotten egg yellow stone park smell, then ur cat might be going bad.

if it smells like burnt fiber or some ceramic smell, its ur new exhaust gaskets breaking in..

if it smells like burnt oil, then ur engine is breaking in and might be burning some oil.

if it smells like burnt fish, then u smoked ur clutch cause u suck... oh wait, AT guys dont have this issue.

maybe a mouse/rat crawled up exhaust pipe or made nest somewhere near exhaust...on my 911 they made a nest under the intake manifold

Could just be the exhaust breaking in.

The old rotten egg smell if that would just be the exhaust breaking in along with the ticking noise it could make as it cools off.

You did mention that you just purchased it so thats all it really is.

Pretty normal for a NEW car.

Ken was on it :)

Stop Eating at the "All you can eat" Chili supper. You do know women do have gas, no matter what they say.
