Pulled over for speeding
Got pulled over yesterday for doing 39 in a 35. Cop explained to me I have to be aware that my car will be targeted due to appeance than asked a bunch of questions. Turned out he's got a 300ZX TT and was a die hard Z guy and really just wanted a closer look. Still had me freaking out my insurance was about to skyrocket.
|
Go to traffic school before you pay the ticket
you will have to pay the fine for the ticket, but a point won't be put onto your record and insurance rates won't go up. At least that is how it works here in CA. I work for State Farm Insurance so this is something I would know about. And yeah our cars are definitely targeted a lot more because of look and sound. I'm sure the cop was a Z guy but gave you a ticket for speeding because he was jealous he has a 300zx and not a newer 370z haha. Also did he catch you on a radar gun? very specific speed for a cop to say to someone. |
id be surprised if you actually got a ticket..
|
Doesn't sound like he got hit more of a funny story with a cop and his Z
Wish the cops around here appreciated the vehicle scene... |
He gave me a warning. Just wanted to share because I found it interesting when it was all said in done.
|
i think the a big reason was the attitude you had when he came to you. come off as a **** they will throw the book at you.
there has been numerous numbers of cases for and against cops being jerks here. in canada 10 or under you can get away with. if it's over 10 they are obligated to pull you over. |
Isn't it 10% not 10 km? I think there is a 10% error in radar guns and they could get thrown out of court if the ticket is for less then 10% of the speed limit.
|
Nice.
I had one cop tell me to fight it. He then told me he never goes in to court. He was really apologetic because of the policy they were running at the time. I made him laugh while he was writing the ticket and I guess he just felt bad that I was handling it with class. Not all cops are jerks, and not all speeders are ********. I was doing 41 in a 30 in my Taurus. He didn't show i argued and they dropped it. Glad your cop was a z fan. |

Thanks, and sorry to digress. |

I was doing 93 in 55..... luckily cop was a car guy. talked y ear off about the car and I still had my car number from the drag strip on the windshield so that sparked more conversation. ended up with a moving violation of sorts. no points and I believe it was $150 fine. told me to hurry home to make it back in time for the Pens game :driving: |

being nice and respectful can go only so far. i've have talked to a lot of cops and even still play basketball with some. i had one tell me that on a day that he was forced to work (he had tickets to go to a game, but got called in) he handed out the most tickets he ever did. he stopped everyone for anything he could lol.
while it can pay to be nice, just because you're nice doesn't mean you won't get the full ticket. however, it is better then being an arse and leading it somewhere else. when stopped i just answer yes or no sir. nothing more nothing less. |

i can't remember where i heard that but i'm pretty sure it's 10kmh. 30 and 40 are majors 50+ is 'racing' (regardless if you are alone or not) or relabelled as 'stunt driving' and get a 7 day impound,7 days in slammer, 10k fine, 30 day impound, 50000000 demerits, and a wack of but hurt. oh they also have some other qwerky rules for what they classify stunting. like ripping a left with no advance when a light turns green :shakes head: |
Glad you got off a ticket.
An officer pulled me over. I readily took accountability because I knew what I did. Long story short, he pulled me over simply to get a closer look and ask what exhaust I had on. We then started talking about cars and Z's at that point. We exchanged business cards and that's it. |
got pulled over for doing 4 miles over the speed limit?! yikes, I do double that before getting to the stop sign at the send of my street. seriously, I'm definitely not a crazy or fast driver but that's crazy. I've gotten a ticket for doing 79 in a 55 (out of state) but only warnings for 39 in a 25 and 69 in a 55. definitely depends on the cop and yes not all are bad. neither of those were in my z by the way.

traffic school online is way to go, I got a ticket took1.5 hrs online...3weeks later my girlfriend got ticket..i already knew the answers took 30 minutes and I gotta ALOT of brownie points for that one..:rofl2:

"Officer, I understand your rationalization for pulling me over this [morning, afternoon, evening] but due to State of California regulations, all Radar Guns have to be calibrated and officers of the law using a radar gun must carry the Radar Guns Certification and must furnish documentation if requested by the Driver. If the officer is unable to furnish the documentation for the Radar Gun Calibration then there is no infraction due to the Radar Gun not being calibrated. Have a great rest of your day officer!" They are supposed to say Have a good day back and leave, but if they give you issues you start recording. Quote:

1 thing that happens when cars do get older or there aren't many around anymore, prices for replacement parts do go up since State Farm uses OEM parts in replacement during a claim. If the replacement parts for a car go up in price or become harder to find classifications for the car go up causing a slight increase in premium. That more than likely ISN'T the bulk of that premium increase you saw. On June 22nd 2015 State farm had incurred a 5% rate increase across the board; now I know that was the percentage in increase for CA. I have had to handle a lot of customers calling in about the same issue you had though, I know a rate increase seems unfair, but from CA standpoint I looked at Average Rates and the last 20 years worth of rate increase/decrease and this is the first rate increase that State Farm has seen in just over 15 years. Ill PM you some options you can look at to help premiums for you hopefully. |
Nice cop. You are lucky. Some cops are jealous and they will give you the ticket.

phew, lot of weird information in this thread.
speaking as someone who has been on both sides of those flashing lights.. what I'm about to say goes for Canada only, as I don't have experience in the US. You should never speed, but WHEN you do, because everyone does it, try to avoid going 15 over. It depends on your province, detachment, mood of the officer, mood of the officers boss etc. if and when you get pulled over, turn the car off, turn your music off, roll down your window in advance, have your license, permit(registration) and proof of insurance out. this includes taking them out of whatever little plastic protector you keep them in. be polite, but don't say anything obviously incriminating. don't make excuses. If any other Canadians ave questions feel free to shoot me a pm |
I've had this happen too not in my z but in my other hobby cars in the past..
|
I had this happen in the Z although I was speeding pretty good. Warning for 48 in a 35 mph frontage road just before entering the highway. He didn't talk my ear off or anything, but he was definitely into it and gave several compliments
I even gave some stupid excuse like I was speeding up to merge on the freeway, and here I am pulled over on a half mile long single lane entrance ramp :ugh: He said "yeah right ... this car probably gets up to highway speed in 2nd gear" I gave him a sheepish look and said I could get her up to about 60 mph in 2nd if I wanted :icon17: |

I drop my windows, have my wallet and paperwork on the dashboard in full view, radio/car off, hands on the steering wheel when he walks up, so he has a full view of my hands and is put more at ease. Then I speak in a respectful tone. Not being a **** does wonders for interactions with people. |
My best ticket story... 3 tickets in one day in 3 separate states in 2 time zones
while driving across country in an RX7. |
Respectful is always the key. I got out of a 'go to jail' ticket (100+ in a 75) by pulling over as safely as I could, shutting everything down and having paperwork ready. The sheriff asked me if I knew why he was stopping me and I said "yes, I did something stupid". He told me what he had me on radar for and I asked him if he wanted me to exit the vehicle. He said 'no, I'm only going to write you for 'basic speed'. It's a $185 ticket.' I said thank you. 15 minutes later, I'm on my way to Wichita. Now he flashes his lights and waves to me when I pass where he sets up. :)

My Evo X draws a lot of attention and I am always with the flow of traffic on the hwy or the speed limit on local roads. Glad there are cops like that out there.

I have a license plate frame that will be mine until I leave it to someone else, probably my kid in the future, like my dad for me. It is a Lifetime Member 11-99 Foundation License Plate Frame. For everyone who knows what that is and what it's for you know where I'm going with this haha :stirthepot: But the 11-99 Foundation was a Charity organization where people could donate to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to help and provide emergency service to CHP officers and families in crisis. Those are also the officers that mainly patrol freeways and are the ones that run those long 18 hour shifts you hear about from cops. There were 4 levels of charity to this organization. -Classic: $2,500 for yourself + $1,000 for spouse -Bronze Tier: $5,000 + $1,500 for spouse -Silver Tier: $10,000 Spouse included -Gold Tier: $25,000 Spouse Included My dad ended up in 2004 donating the Gold Tier amount to the 11-99 Foundation. To this day he still has the wall plaque signed and dated by Spike Helmnick who was the Police Commissioner back then, the Laser engraved Brass 11-99 Foudation ID inside a Wallet with a slot where my dad keeps his Insurance ID cards. He puts his Drivers License on top of the wallet with the brass ID and the Insurance ID cards, with registration underneath. I use the License plate frame on my car and have done so since I got my license 3 and a half years ago. I have had 3 separate CHP officers on the freeway, pull me over for something and would ask about the license plate frame and would tell me "Thank you for your contribution to our foundation", tip their head/hat and walk off. I've also know that that license plate frame has gotten me warnings and plenty of times where cops have gotten behind me get really close to run my plates, saw the license plate frame, change lanes to the side of me and drives off. There was one time my dad told me that he was sadly.. driving drunk, and a CHP pulled him over and probably should have gone to jail that night, but when the officers saw his 11-99 Foundation Badge they gave him a police escort home. Being respectful is the best way to win with the law. :tiphat: :driving: |
You guys are lucky. If I get pulled, I get a ticket. End of story. I have no luck.

Got pulled over in my 93 TTZ for expired plates last year on Veterans Day. Cop said he wouldn't have even noticed my plates but was admiring the car as it drove by. He saw the veteran emblem on my drivers license and wished me a happy veterans day as he gave me my ticket.

I got pulled over the night I got home from my second deployment for an illegal right on red that had changed during the 12 months I was gone. In uniform bags in the back. When the officer asked me if I saw the sign and informed me it had been a no right on red for 6 months now I respectfully replied sorry sir I've been in Iraq for the last 12 months and did not know it had changed, and apologized for missing the non-lighted sign at midnight. Dude wrote me ticket and said, "Well even war heros need to follow the law." That was actually my only bad run in with a police officer. I'm always respectful and leave my hands on the wheel until the officer asks for my paperwork. I don't want him to see me shuffling around and be worried I'm reaching for some thing. I always start the conversation with letting the officer know I'm carrying and wear my weapon currently is located. So far its always turned out well for me. |
Jeez, Spstone, that was a dickish move by that officer, too.
|
Veterans Day
I got a laugh outta that one. My veterans license plate holder didn't help me in Colorado either.
Cheers |
