Anybody ECUTEK getting Check Engine lights?

I wondered if the car is safe to track next season if I'm still getting intermittent CEL @ certain RPM / throttle.

:ugh2:

Or also... Is this "normal" activity?

SouthArk370Z 12-20-2015 01:42 PM

Depends on what is causing the CEL. An OBD/CAN scanner should tell you.

OBD scanner has no saved codes on the ECU The engine is counting some misfires... But not enough to store a code... still searching.

P.S. The dash only displays CEL under certain conditions.

By chance, does your CEL light quickly flutter at part throttle when going up hill?

Hotrodz 12-20-2015 02:12 PM

Under hard acceleration you will get the flashing check engine light. It's normal and happens to me every time I accelerate hard...I'm boosted though and Seb told me not to worry about it unless it stays on!

Part-throttle and not necessarily uphill.
But 1/2 throttle and 3-4K RPM

And yes... The CEL "flickers" at that time.

Yeah, I get this from time-to-time, but I've done multiple scans and never found any codes. Mine will do it anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle, around the same RPM you mentioned. It doesn't seem to do it any more, so I haven't given it much thought. It seems to have rectified itself. As Hotrodz mentioned, unless it stays on permanently, or for long periods, I wouldn't worry about it.

I didn't have my gas cap secured correctly once and it would flash, but at a different pace. It would flash consistently at any speed. So, I think it's just one of the small glitches in the system.

osbornsm 12-20-2015 02:38 PM

Well... It's the knock sensor, not really a small glitch for us HPDE folks.

Oh, this is on the least aggressive Map

Still searching

Hotrodz 12-20-2015 02:39 PM

LOL...come on now it's no different for us boosted folks...really I got $20k into my engine upgrades so don't think that I don't take this stuff seriously.

Edit: Mine to and Seb is a very conservative tuner and my tune is mild and on the rich side of things!

This is a feature of RaceRom

Visual knock warning - Provides knock warning by flashing the "check engine" light when knock is detected.

Does it do it on all four of your maps? What octane are you running?

Yes it is...we are only giving feedback on our experiences and you should always consult with your tuner on their tune and what you may see or witness in your vehicle. If Osbornsm tuner tends to tune on the lean side then I think there is reason to be concerned, but I have no information on that so all I can comment on is what my tuner has relayed to me about my situation. It's just information and you can do with it what you please.

I have 3 maps and a valet. Occurs on the least aggressive Map... More so on the others.

Running 93 octane since birth. Not even 91 lol

Mine happens on all maps of mine as well and even when I'm running straight e85 so I don't think it is a fuel type issue. What I think is happening is that when there is load on the engine, the change in AFRs and fuel pressure looks like knocking to the ecuteck programming and you get the flashing light. I'm no expert and I may be overly simplifying it, but that is how it was explained to me.
