370z passenger airbag light

Hi guys , I am new to this forum. I just recently purchased my z last week 09 with 32k miles. I absolutely love this car! I tried doing some search regarding my problem but I had not find anything similar to my problem. Current problem is my passenger airbag light isn't illuminating at all whether there is a passenger or not. To my understanding from reading the manual , also with most cars, the passenger airbag light should illuminate when there Is no passenger sitting in the seat indicating that the airbag won't deflate, but my light isn't the case , it just doesn't light up at all besides when I turn on my car for the first 5 secs then it just stays off with the illumination. I am worry for my girlfriend since she is the one sitting in That seat. I had took the car to the dealership couple days ago and they said airbag is functioning properly , no error codes was found in the system. Today I took it to my usual car shop , he tells me the same thing, nobody can explain to me why it won't light up. There has to be an explanation. I am wondering if anyone of my fellow z owners had encounter this problem and can give me some help. Thank you so much for everyones time on reading this.
Kenny

sagging middle-aged woman's dream.. :icon17: :ugh:

hummmm... i thought it only illuminates constantly when there is a light weighted passenger on the seat?

maybe try placing some weight like 40-50lbs on the seat and see wat happens?

Normal operation. It comes on briefly to indicate that it does not detect a presence in the seat that would trigger the airbag operation. It does not stay on because it detects zero load on the seat. It wouldn't make sense for the light to stay on all the time when you never have a passenger.

Put something around 20-40 lbs in the seat and see if the light comes on and stays on while driving. There has to be enough weight on the seat for it to detect that there is something there and less than the weight limit that triggers the airbag. In this range, the light should stay on.

I am going to try to do that when I am home, I understand what you saying though. I guess I misunderstood the manual? To my understandings when I read it, is it will light up if no passenger on it indicating it won't deflate. Thank you so much for your input

So I am guessing everyone else z passenger light don't illumate at all unless maybe 20-40lb of weights are on? So I am guessig mine is normal then just have to make sure with weight when I am home!

kenchan 12-16-2015 02:10 PM

when i had my son in the Z (when he was smaller) i remember the light coming on.

but besides this, i dont think i remember seeing it on. same goes with my dd's passenger SRS indicator. 99% of the time it's off.
give the weight thing a try to be sure.
