AAM Short Tail 13' Nismo baseline seems high

So I got a baseline before I added mods. Only thing on the car are short tails. It's pretty much common knowledge within the community that they don't add power. I bought midpipes and a CAI I plan on installing soon, so I wanted to put down a baseline. In short, the numbers are:

305whp
246 lbft TQ
On a dynojet
Set to SAE.
Run in 4th.
1.04 CF, but I'm at sea level and 80°

This seems a bit high, anyone else? Thoughts?

Strong motor ! , may be a high reading dyno.... but your torque says otherwise.

What gear was the dyno pull done in?

SS_Firehawk 12-02-2015 08:02 PM

It was a 4th gear pull. 4th usually reads a few hp lower from my past experience. Dynojets are lauded for their consistency, idk, maybe needs calibrated? There was an untuned Nismo they had with G3 intakes and testpipes that made the same amount of power, but it was in serious need of a tune. His TQ was at 252.

Just saw the vid..Can't really explain that one, but hey nothing bad with power. Nice looking car btw, haven't seen one in that color in person at all

The Nismo's put out 350hp at the engine. Sounds right. They should not dyno the same a s a normal 370z.

Over 300 still seems high IMO if a base 370 usually puts down 280ish at the wheels and the Nismo only makes a claimed 18hp more at the crank (probably less).

Nismo owner here, btw.

15% drivetrains loss is 295. Im happy she's running strong, a bit rich, but that's like overhead for mods lol. There weren't any spikes or dips. Looks like it really wants more air

They say Stillen Gen 3 intakes really make a difference. I wouldn't know since I'm just using K&N drop-ins and stock exhaust (for now).

Why would the dyno be done in 4th?

5th gear = 1:1 ratio

Your numbers are not accurate, specifically the TQ which obviously shows higher in lower gear.

And your HP number is a direct result of torque anyway so, there's your answer.
Do a proper dyno next time... :iagree:

I've done about 15 Dyno's with two different 370Z's. Torque doesn't show higher in lower gears. 5th is the 1:1, but you won't reach 7500rpm unless you remove the speed limiter with Uprev or Ecutek. And when I say within a few horsepower, it's literally less then 3. So don't try and fact check me and tell me to do a proper effing dyno. I took it to Z Fever. I didn't specify which gear. I think they've done enough dyno's to know which one is the 1:1 and why they chose 4th. It's negligible. Speaking of, I'll pull the DRF off my drive and take a closer look.

the fujimura canisters have decent gains vs the stock muffler according to fujimura on top of the weight savings, so i bet ur gains are pretty accurate with the shortails.

I would guess no more than 5 if there were gains. But it's really the only variable. I've never seen a dyno where short tails made power outside the margin of error

hummm... from the looks of it, the Z muffler is pretty restrictive probably due to noise restrictions (or just being neighbor friendly in tiny japan suburbs).

fujimura muffler-only:
output 303.4ps => 315.1ps
torque 34.9kg => 36kg
