Okay, so this isn't confirmed but it triggered one of my google alerts so it must be legit...

2017 Nissan Z: Go Small Or Go Home!

Earlier this year, Nissan teased that they are developing a successor to both the 350Z and the 370Z. The details on the vehicle are scarce at the moment but many are pinpointing the car to get unveiled early next year.

An insider from Nissan shared recently that the 370Z is great but it does not do a good job as a daily driver. This is something Nissan wish to rectify with the next Z-car and they hope to accomplish it by introducing a new, smaller capacity engine without jeopardizing power and performance.

If the rumours are to be referred to, Nissan is going to equip the next Z with a 2.7L V6 turbocharged engine that will have about 380hp to offer. The turbocharged motor will also aid in returning about 22mpg city and 34mpg highway of fuel economy.

If the rumours are right, then the next Z will obviously be known as the 270Z. The vehicle will definitely be practical for daily use due to the much better fuel economy. We can expect to hear more official details about the car in the coming months.

Wrong focus.

I bought my Zs not for its fuel economy. I couldn't care any less whether it gets 14 mpg or 40 mpg. The move to forced induction would keep me from buying the car.

NRTim 11-30-2015 09:45 PM

Lmfao....that article is click bait, 270Z??? they need to stop with the damn rumors already

YzGyz 11-30-2015 09:46 PM

I would find me an old 370 and buy that. 2.7l v6?? WTF is that!! I'll pass on that one unless it's stupid cheap.

If u couldn't care a less if u get 14 or 40 mpg then u are very much in the minority. While this may be a sports car with the emphasis on performance, getting good fuel economy would be a welcome feature.

RWD and 380BHP will have my attention no matter what.

Not to mention the fact that a factory turbo car will make a lot more power from bolt ons and a tune than a NA car.

Absolutely. The reality here is that there has to be mass appeal for an automaker to really want to put R&D into a car. They've got to be able to move units and make money. I don't think the next gen of the Z can be anything other than FI from the factory for that.

Spooler 11-30-2015 10:26 PM

Not one time have I worried about the fuel economy. Not once. LOL Another rumor mill.

Chuck33079 11-30-2015 10:36 PM

It's not like it will actually hit those economy numbers in the real world. The epa test numbers go out the window the instant you touch the throttle. But Nissan has to play by the CAFE rules like everybody else.

JC-Nismo 12-01-2015 12:55 AM

Anything less than 425hp will not make it in my garage. Nissan needs to take the Z back to the powerhouse it was in the 90's.

barncobob 12-01-2015 06:39 AM

2017 Porsches will all be turbos,,dropping from 3800ccto 2700cc, but will produce another 40-50 HP,,,saying its because of emissions..

ramoszx12r 12-01-2015 06:40 AM

It will not take much to get 380hp out of the 370Z, so 380hp is not a big deal.

Rusty 12-01-2015 07:47 AM

Tell me. Does this make sense? The OP posted a link to one article saying that there will be a new Z. When in the there thread. MC posted a link to an article saying Nissan hasn't made a decision yet on the Z's future. Are some of these writers pulling sh!t out of their asses or what just to get their name out there?:shakes head: :icon14:

No new Nissan GT-R before 2020, Z-Car will live on

Yes. And we need a thread on each and every one of those articles so we can speculate wildly about what the next Z will be. :shakes head:

Rumors are just that, Rumors!!! Until the car shows up, we need to stop believing or putting credit into these rumors. :twocents:

zae757 12-01-2015 08:16 AM

Honestly, I would get the new Z only if it's cheaper than the current Z. You also have to understand that the current Z produces 332hp with about 270tq and isn't direct fuel injection but with the turbo charged engine it will be. So it'll produce more torque than the current Z and regardless of hp, torque to hp ratio on the current Z doesn't equal up to me. If they can make a 380hp with 370tq then that'll be an eye opener (coming from the factory). With simple bolt on parts, the hp and tq should increase at an reasonable amount. That's just my opinion on it though...

And also think about the additional amount of money you have to spend on the 370 just to get it to 380hp...too much

Nixin 12-01-2015 08:34 AM

Stop the rumors. Nothing is certain until Nissan launches the new Z, whenever. In the meantime, enjoy your present Z series vehicles.

I'd call this a step in the right direction.

I will not be buying another Nissan though after this crappy one.

kenchan 12-01-2015 09:14 AM

i thought the z was going to be a crossover with 4 seats?

zuke they called it...?

lol..

shenlong1337 12-01-2015 09:21 AM

I love rumors!

If I cared about fuel economy I would have bought a Prius

Ommateal 12-01-2015 03:05 PM

There no replacement for displacement. I would not buy it unless it's crazy cheap. Would rather turbo our wonderful 3.7 period.

Fuel Economy? Whats's that? Ohhhhh the thing I bought a much much much cheaper beater for.

I heard the new Z will have a hybrid drivetrain, driverless/auto pilot mode, (optional) AWD, invisibility cloaking so we can finally say goodbye to speeding tickets, and the Nismo version will be equipped with glass roof and hover mode.
