Fuel Starvation vs Limp Mode
Hey guys,
How do you know if you are experiencing fuel starvation vs limp mode. I assume fuel starvation is a quick bog down, like during the duration of a turn and limp mode lasts quite a while. Sound accurate? |
limp mode is exactly dat. you can drive your car but at a slow speed..to get you off the highway or get u into a side street.
fuel starve you'll sputter out and no engine start. |
actually i meant to type fuel starve you'll sputter out and engine cut.
|
I have experienced both. Fuel starvation is when you were taking a long right handed turn and typically you were at one half tank or less. The engine dies and you have to put at least a gallon of gas into it to basically reset it so that it will start again regardless of the actual fuel level.
I have also experienced getting the engine up to 3500 RPM and all the sudden all power is lost until the revs drop down. I have tested this and it occurs in every gear when it is acting up. This is happened to me while driving long-distance and during short trips. If anybody has an explanation for this please let me know. |
Does limp mode involve any lights on the dash? I forget.
I know that my car will go into a limp mode (or similar) upon start-up. It will still rev to/above 4000rpm, but very, very slowly. There's no power at all. Generally occurs more in the cooler months. Then I have to shut it off for about a minute and restart and it's back to normal. No codes, nothing. It's strange. |
I don't remember if there is a dash light but a DTC should be thrown. Get an OBD/CAN tool and see which code(s) is present while limp mode is active.

Only code I know of that I have is for the O2 sensors due to the HFC's. And hell, that's not even being thrown at the moment. |
limp mode is only for the AT loosers
