We used to check motor mounts by putting the engine under a load and then no load while someone watched the engine and mounts. If it moved more than usual, it was usually a mount. If you got "lucky" you could see the mount separate. Not sure if this would work with a modern car, but it should.

9if not motor mounts, then U joints if they have them, Im old school and U joints were always a concern
