Urgent question regarding red light camera

Hi guys. I hv a question. I recently purchased a Nissan 370z. Since it is so new, I haven't gotten my license plate yet. Now.... Today I accidentally made a right turn in red without stopping and the red light camera went off on me. Since I don't have a license plate, will I get a ticket? Thanks in advance

P.S. At the moment the only thing that's on the license plate area is the name of the dealership. It's like a piece of cardboard for them to advertise their place.

Red370 11-04-2009 11:27 PM

those things can zoom in like you wouldnt believe, even to the point where they could get the VIN off of your dash, I hope thats not the case though, that sucks!

I'd say you're free and clear on this one. Have you ever seen a picture you get from one of those cameras? I haven't seen one from CA but i have from NYC and while the resolution is good it is really designed to get your plate and nothing else. I'd say with 95% certainty, in my experience, unless you have some specific identifying information on your temp plate, that you are in the clear so no worries

Maybe some of our law enforcement members can chime in.

tam421602 11-05-2009 12:00 AM

can they possibly call the Dealership and ask for information about who's bought a white 370z, since the name of the dealership was shown.
Thx people!

No telling which PW 370 it is that was sold from that dealership. I'd be seriously surprised to see them go that into it for a violation like that.

NO way...your good...when i first got my Z i would run them for fun at night...i would stop, turn vdc off, look around...rev up and burnout... a couple of times i even flipped off the camera

- that was for all the speeding tickets ....piggies ...

I beat one of those red light enforcement tickets back in 2001.

Unless they wanted to do the detective work to get your info from the dealer listed on the front plate you're not going to have a problem. I doubt they will go to that much trouble. Those photo enforcement systems are about making an easy buck for the city, not to actually track down every hard to find offender.

these systems are the only reason that California requires front license plates, and one of the main reasons I won't put mine on.

Your welcome.:tiphat:

That's why they installed cameras to photograph the rear plate! I think having to have a front plate is BS!

thx Dad =D
and thx everyone else

If your dealer gave your info to anyone who called them, you should sue them.

You're fine...no way they'll look any further into it.

KillerBee370 11-05-2009 10:14 AM

Nope. Sleep easy.

bigaudiofanat 11-05-2009 10:18 AM

Na the resolution on those cameras are like 2 mp there not going to get anything except a tag but sense you do not have one your fine.

ltp 11-05-2009 10:28 AM

No tickets - so don't worry at all.
It happened to me once.

I also took advantage of my new car (no license plates) to cross the toll bridge
on a Fast-Track lane to avoid paying toll.

GingaBreadMan 11-05-2009 10:33 AM

I kept my temp plates 2 months for that exact reason. I received a parking ticket that I totally ignored because I still had on my temp plate. You have no worries.
A little of topic, DAMN THE Z IS HOT!!!

.....links thread to Office of Homeland Security for further investigation

Pointman 11-05-2009 11:59 AM

You are free and clear. There will be no follow up on your dealer tag. The camera's are designed for minimal effort on part of the law enforcement community to enforce red lights and develop income for their jursidiction. They will not waste the time, effort, or money to search for you. Your picture was deleted upon review.

I might or might not be a law enforcement officer

I've gotten 2 of these back in the day. They need the plate to identify the car and owner and your face as the driver. I dunno about the whole zooming in to see your VIN tho, I think he is just trying to scare you =). I think you'll be fine.

AK370Z 11-05-2009 12:55 PM

You good to go  unless the guy who works for this specific county is a forum member here ;) :icon17:

This isn't CSI, you can't take a low-res image and "enhance" it to all of a sudden be able to see what color the driver's eyes are in their rear view mirror. Most of the videos that I've seen of friends running red lights (I have yet to eff that one up) have been roughly D1 resolution (~720x480). There are times where these video cameras are coupled with a license plate camera like the ones found at toll exchanges, but even then they are just set up to grab your plate, nothing else.

Side note: Don't ever think that switching lanes or going extra fast will make the LP cameras not get your plate. I've been selling those things for a few years now and they're good to well over 120MPH and use technology that basically blacks out everything except the plate.

On an aside and just a friendly little FYI...trust me when I tell you that DOTs are linked to you, and its not at all that difficult to run them. A matter of a few extra minutes, and whether or not the officer decides to waste his/her time doing so.

Do you honestly believe DOTs aren't kept tab of? How foolish would it be not to, when if so any thug could print one out and go to town?

MeetJoeAsian 11-05-2009 06:29 PM

In the state of Texas, they recently changed it to where when you purchase any vehicle (new or used), you get a unique temporary plate number and you are responsible for anything for that plate just like your standard plates...

I wouldn't worry about it unless you receive a letter in the mail charging you the fine...otherwise, go on as if nothing had happened...I've gotten one before, and those cameras are some high tech/advanced cameras....
